I used to enjoy having people over and visiting friends and family at home as I've young dc and restaurants etc just don't work.

But lately people just don't bloody leave. I specifically invite early and say "dc need to be getting ready for bed at 7 so it'll be an early finish" but no fucker leaves. There are talks about leaving in 5 minutes etc, but no one ever does.

I end up having to be either be really rude and saying you have to go now, or dealing with overtired / wired dc and company that just drags on.

I'm really aware of not overstaying my welcome when I go places so find it stressful when others don't.

Do I need to give up on people forever and become a recluse?!

I say 'sorry but I'm going to have to chuck you out now, as I have to get on with ........' then I get up and head for the door, or collect their coats and hand them to them, anything to make it clear you don't mean in half an hours time you mean NOW!

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

"well, I have to do my naked yoga now" should clear the room
I don’t mean to sound obtuse but I never understand people suggesting OPs strip off or threaten to strip off to deter people. It’s just a bit weird. I cannot ever imagine a scenario (or in fact any relationship with anyone I know) where I would say that to someone.

If I told Mil that it was time for her to leave so I can get naked, both she and DH would think I’d lost my mind and I’d sound like a massive twat.

@SixQuidGames
🙄
I can't help it if you thought that was a serious suggestion.

shouldistop · 01/11/2021 16:18

@SixQuidGames do you take everything so literally?

SixQuidGames · 01/11/2021 19:33

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba @shouldistop Ohhhh, I get it now. It’s meant to be funny. Got it.

Jesus I get this but worse is when they come in the day. I've had friends come at 11 and stay ALL BLOODY DAY until tea time and then they are still hovering, worse is when they don't want any tea just watch us eat. Fuck off already!! I wouldn't mind if it's people i don't see much but I see them every week or so. I've started meeting people outside that way it's easier to say" I've got to go do X now".

I remember when my first born was a tiny baby and my friend came at 10ish, was still there at 7. Normally when friends are round I don't wash up or anything because i think it's rude but I got so fed up I went in the kitchen to start aggressively wash up and make the bottles.
Oh god the worse was one mum who was clearly bored, so came to my house as our babies were a similar age.She stayed for hours, I told her I needed to pump so could she go and she said "tell you what you go upstairs to pump and I'll sit here and watch TV". I did get rid of her but wonder if I've got "MUG" tattooed on my forehead
