And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

I don't, they go in the tumble dryer and are folded as soon as they're dry.

MrsBerthaRochester · 27/10/2021 00:39

I got rid of my iron the same time I got rid of exdh. Ironing his work shirts was one of my most hated things. I will never iron again.

blueberryporridge · 27/10/2021 00:49

Cotton fitted sheet and cotton duvet cover. Dry in tumble dryer with dryer balls. Take out promptly and fold neatly. Ironing not required.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 27/10/2021 01:14

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy

Fold them in half and iron one side then flip and do the other.

With fitted sheets you fold in half matching the corner seems and hook the corner over the end of the board, iron that section, flip over and hook the other corner, iron that section, then hook a corner so you have the top edge section on the board, iron, then pull the sheet towards you and iron a section at a time.

I iron for a living and this is how I get perfect results.

I iron them this way too. Easy peas, but then I actually like ironing.

@ejhhhhh

Why are “standards” important? I don’t get it. If they’re important, surely there must be a reason? If you really want to better yourself, with something that’s actually important, spend the time that you would have spent ironing the sheets on something more worthwhile. Volunteer at your local hospice, write a letter to your MP about something that is important to you, anything. Or don’t, that’s fine too. But don’t pretend that ironing bedding is “important”, because it’s really not.
They are important to op, she doesn't need anyone to get it. Different things matter to different people.

Iron? Confused

backtolifebacktoreality · 27/10/2021 02:14

Tumble dry. I've seen people iron them once they are on the bed though!

Sydendad · 27/10/2021 02:17

Honestly, why on earth bother? If you fold them neatly they become smooth enough. Have a cupa instead and invite a friend, much better use of time.

THEDEACON · 27/10/2021 03:08

I don't there's more in life to worry me

GiantHaystacks2021 · 27/10/2021 03:28

Life is too short for stuff like that.

Snog · 27/10/2021 03:50

Ooh I love ironed sheets so much.
I fold into quarters lengthwise and then refold until all surfaces are done.
100% cotton sheets nicely ironed is one of life's simple pleasures.

My mother used to send out her sheets to a laundry.

Yep this but I don't bother with ironing fitted sheets
BrunoJenkins · 27/10/2021 05:34

No iron in our house either. There is absolutely no need and I don't know why people waste their time on it!

FOJN · 27/10/2021 05:48

I iron my bed linen in the way described by RachelHas...

I'm not an ironing fanatic but I love the feeling of getting into a bed made up with clean, ironed bed linen more than I hate ironing. It's less about adhering to a standard and more about making the effort to treat myself to one of life's small pleasures.

starrynight21 · 27/10/2021 06:07

Put them on the bed. Iron them right there. That's it.

freeatlast2021 · 27/10/2021 06:09

I do not iron anything.🤗

freeatlast2021 · 27/10/2021 06:10

@GladAllOver

What's an iron?
Yes, that🥰
Feefsie53 · 27/10/2021 06:27

I think our Grandmother’s generation ironed everything to get things thoroughly dry. If you have a tumble dryer or nice warm home then your bedding will be dry and can be used or put away. My ex MIL ironed everything even dusters and bra cups. Also people used flat sheets and blankets and only had double beds. I don’t think they were wrangling a king sized duvet cover.

bettyboop1975 · 27/10/2021 06:39

The no crease secret is in the washing. Wash bedding alone then if you remove the duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases as soon as they are washed either hang out or tumble dry there is no need to iron.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 27/10/2021 06:43

If I can be arsed... iron them on the bed

gofg · 27/10/2021 06:52

I enjoy ironing, but even I don't iron duvet covers or sheets - and yes, mine are cotton. Once they are on the bed they look fine (I do iron pillowcases).

Curvy01 · 27/10/2021 06:52

For the price of around £250-300, buy yourself an ironing press to make short work of your ironing. Not only will your bed linen look pristine, you'll enjoy the relaxing aspect of using the press... it's so addictive!!

certainly not!
Darbs76 · 27/10/2021 07:26

I don’t iron bedsheets anymore. My mum has the biggest bed I’ve ever seen and she irons everything (including underwear). God knows how she does it. I don’t have a dryer so either line dry and hang my bedding on the back of the dining room chairs to dry. In winter I have a fleece duvet and that definitely doesn’t need ironing.

Sorry for your loss. If you feel that you want to up your standards go for it, but I wouldn’t iron a massive duvet

blink18two · 27/10/2021 07:51

@Onshoredebris

Perhaps you should get a hobby if you’re so bored you want to iron duvet covers. And even worse think it matters. People are going to start finding you pretty boring if you’re life revolves around rubbish like this
