To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

How??? WHY??

(Typing that whilst being secretly impressed.)

PierrethePenis · 26/10/2021 20:00

Life’s too short to iron. Especially bedding.

pollymere · 26/10/2021 20:01

Iron it from side to side as you move it down. You're better off buying polycotton or jersey which just don't need ironing!

User112 · 26/10/2021 20:02

No ironing here too !

SallyWD · 26/10/2021 20:03

I never used to iron bedding until we got a super king sized bed and lots of new bedding. I started taking pride in it! So you can imagine it's even harder ironing super king size bedding. I just fold it twice so it's quarter the size and just keep ironing it on the different sides. It's certainly not perfect but it looks OK.

Beverley71 · 26/10/2021 20:05

I don’t iron bedding. However, I do know people who iron them on the bed and swear that’s the easiest way to do it.

FancyNan · 26/10/2021 20:08

I hang my duvet covers off the upstairs bannisters so all the creases drop out. Then I just fold and put away as it's dried without creases. It's not five star hotel level but it's certainly not rumpled & will do for me.

comedycentral · 26/10/2021 20:13

Don't iron stuff like that. Life is way to short.

murakamilove · 26/10/2021 20:18

Fold into quarters.

Biscuitybiscuit · 26/10/2021 20:19

You fold it in half and iron both of the outsides, then reverse fold so the outsides are now inside and repeat with a good steam iron.

ShepherdMoons · 26/10/2021 20:22

I don't iron much these days. Occasionally some school uniform for dd (photograph day). Life is much easier without ironing.

ShepherdMoons · 26/10/2021 20:22

My dm btw irons EVERYTHING including towels, pillowcases, etc.

ancientwrinkles · 26/10/2021 20:22

Who does this?!

nordica · 26/10/2021 20:23

I definitely don't! It's not like anyone else sees it (compared to say a shirt you might wear to look smart), and I've never felt they need it anywhere. Fitted sheets look perfectly smooth once on the bed, too.

Sunshine1235 · 26/10/2021 20:28

I don’t iron mine anymore but I used to do it once they were already on the bed

silentpool · 26/10/2021 20:29

I bought a steam generator iron which is very powerful. It makes fairly short work of sheets. I iron my bedding because it is so lovely when it's ironed. So, the powerful iron makes it easier.

Bellee11 · 26/10/2021 20:48

Fold as you iron. My mum does this. Think she was taught how to do it in school.
Iron half then fold in half, flip, iron, fold, flip iron fold, etc. You end up with a perfectly folded duvet cover which is easy to store and feels great when you put it on bed.

Btw, I don't do this but definitely think there are benefits if you can be bothered!

TinselTinsel · 26/10/2021 20:52

On the very rare occasion that I iron my bedding , I iron it after I've made the bed!

thebuswontfit · 26/10/2021 20:52

Ironing bed linen? Are we doing this now?

ThesecondLEM · 26/10/2021 20:54

I don't

blink18two · 26/10/2021 20:54

@comedycentral

Don't iron stuff like that. Life is way to short.
But not short enough to post the same old comments

Thehop · 26/10/2021 20:55

I do them on the bed.

Onshoredebris · 26/10/2021 21:00

Perhaps you should get a hobby if you’re so bored you want to iron duvet covers. And even worse think it matters. People are going to start finding you pretty boring if you’re life revolves around rubbish like this

Scottsy100 · 26/10/2021 21:01

Simple answer- you don’t

I don’t even own an iron, ain’t nobody got time for that 😂

Canigoonroblox · 26/10/2021 21:08

I love ironed duvets on the bed! There are just some things that are nice. Like the washing smelling lovely form being hung outside.
I half them and iron them, turn over and half again, turn and half and so on till it’s a wee square. You carry on ironing your duvets! X
