To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

Life is too short to be...

  1. sitting on your arse watching shite on TV. It's mostly bollocks and meaningless esp reality TV shows

  2. sitting about playing games

  3. going down the pub, spending hours just drinking

  4. spending your time eating cake and getting fat

And most of all life is too short to be on the Internet on a forum judging other people on how they spend their time

Superking cover. I fold it into thirds then iron one side then flip and do the other.. it's not perfect but looks much better, takes a few minutes and when I'm spending a lot on beautiful bedding I don't want it looking all wrinkled so I'm with you op. The tumble dryer doesn't work for me at all.

Weareallvirgins · 26/10/2021 18:49

Iron duvets............. Lost me that one

Dnaltocs · 26/10/2021 18:50

Ironing is like swearing - some are raised with standards.

I like to iron but not everything and swearing is kept for when I’m unable to reason - eg hammer hitting nail.

TillyTopper · 26/10/2021 18:53

I don't iron it. One night of passion and it's screwed up anyway!

pinkpirlie · 26/10/2021 18:54

Who the f* irons anything, let alone duvet covers. Don't even know where our iron is it has been that long since it was used.

Peace43 · 26/10/2021 18:56

I don’t iron but my mum is a big fan. She folds in half and moves the thing around the ironing board.

Panda368 · 26/10/2021 18:58

I know someone who irons her bottom sheets when she’s put them on the bed. No idea about duvet covers though I can’t even iron a shirt

SundayShawl · 26/10/2021 18:59

I have an iron but it's for pressing fabric for quilting and patchwork (and the rare outing for smart shirts). Linen dried or tumble dried bedding is enough for me.

DM has standards and even she draws the line at sheets and duvet covers (she irons pillow cases).

Thomasina79 · 26/10/2021 19:01

I bought some cotton duvets which had wrinkles as part of the fabric, if that makes sense. I keep ironing in general to a minimum, life is too short! In any case the wrinkles in duvet covers have fallen out by the morning. As long as they are clean and preferably dried on the line outside in the sunshine. I love the smell of clean linen.

fuckyourpronouns · 26/10/2021 19:01

Fold them before you iron them. The elasticated sheets throw you otherwise! So the 2 corners fold over so that kind of an L shape when you look at the sheet. Then iron as you would a flat sheet

msgreen · 26/10/2021 19:04

Please please don't buy any sprays etc ,there's to much stuff in landfill already.
fold and iron whilst a bit damp and dry off in airing cupboard or on a rad
if you really must

LisaD76 · 26/10/2021 19:08

Aibu to ask who the hell irons bed linens? I just fold once dry, they get put away and get creased anyway, and the creases drop out after one nights sleep

Diva66 · 26/10/2021 19:10

I never iron bedding.

superblondie28 · 26/10/2021 19:14

I just don't bother ironing any bedding. Life's too short!

I line dry if decent weather and fold up the cover neatly. Or if weather shite, tumble dry and fold up neatly.

Pillow cases are the only bedding to be ironed 😊

keffie12 · 26/10/2021 19:14

You don't iron what doesn't need it. My iron sits happily on the side in the spare bedroom. The only time I tend to use it is if I'm selling anything on eBay or mens shirts for a funeral

No one irons today like they used too. I'm of the 70s teen group. I don't iron and I don't know anyone really that does

Stuff doesn't really need ironing today. Bedsheets not a chance

Basicbitch40 · 26/10/2021 19:16

Stop ironing bed sheets you nutter.

venus22 · 26/10/2021 19:17

Tumble drying is hell on fabric, and very environmentally unsound.
Ironing sheets/pillowcases/covers is not just aesthetic; it kills bacteria and dustmites.
Press duvet covers in quarters, easier to handle, and quicker.

Proudboomer · 26/10/2021 19:17

I used to have a steam press that was great for duvets and sheets then i saw the light and gave the press away on freecycle and learnt to embrace my non ironed bedding.

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2021 19:21

I’ve just put clean bedding on a double. A firm sweep of my hand seemed to flatten any wrinkles pretty well !

Warblerinwinter · 26/10/2021 19:25

I don’t..but how about just laying it out one the unmade bed and ironing it on there. You could put the sheet on first and then iron all layers together? 😱

janj2301 · 26/10/2021 19:25

ironing, what is this magic of which you speak?

Moooning · 26/10/2021 19:31

I don't own an iron.

Hair straighteners are much more handy for the little bits like dress hems or collars on the very rare chance they need it

Katiemole · 26/10/2021 19:32

I don’t iron my super king it’s hard enough getting in on and off , if I were to iron it I’d do once on👍

Fluffmum · 26/10/2021 19:37

Fold then iron
