And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

Iron them on the bed! I hang mine on the line so they don't need ironing.

Gooseysgirl · 26/10/2021 21:09

I don't - life is too short

NotACompleterFinis · 26/10/2021 21:16

Maybe don't try crease release?
If you're really keen to iron make sure you have biggest available ironing board or use wool blanket folded in half on the dining table table (my grandma did this). Make sure you iron while fabric is still a bit damp. Only iron the side you see unless you have the time to do both sides.

clarehhh · 26/10/2021 21:18

Husband does them.

MarvellousMonsters · 26/10/2021 21:32

I don't. Life is too short to iron bedding.

Barney60 · 26/10/2021 21:33

I iron all my bedding because i love getting into a freshly starched and ironed clean bed.
If i won the lotto id pay someone to iron my bedding and put fresh on every day.
I fold in half spray starch iron turn over do same takes 10 minutes out of my time every couple of weeks.

Cameila · 26/10/2021 21:45

I agree OP.
I do exactly what Echinops upthread said. Fold and iron , using the steam option- quicker and best results

Trulyhadenough · 26/10/2021 21:45

Rachelhasthoseinburgundy has the technique absolutely right. I've always ironed bedding- looks and feels so much nicer, it is worth it to me. When teaching full time, took it to a lovely lady who ironed it .Again, for me, worth paying for, even on my pay .

donemeover · 26/10/2021 21:47

Lol why would you iron them? No way would I be bothering with that 😂

bossybloss · 26/10/2021 21:51

You buy seersucker duvet covers from Tesco ..no need to iron!

wentworthinmate · 26/10/2021 21:54

I'm with the majority. Who on earth irons duvet covers and fitted sheets, wth???

ejhhhhh · 26/10/2021 22:00

Why are “standards” important? I don’t get it. If they’re important, surely there must be a reason? If you really want to better yourself, with something that’s actually important, spend the time that you would have spent ironing the sheets on something more worthwhile. Volunteer at your local hospice, write a letter to your MP about something that is important to you, anything. Or don’t, that’s fine too. But don’t pretend that ironing bedding is “important”, because it’s really not.

Wexone · 26/10/2021 22:01

my bed is a super king. I send my sheets into the local laundrette. they have a big roller iron thing. 5e for duvet and sheet to be ironed. I am sorry but for me nothing is as nice as stepping into a bed of new ironed sheets. and bed is made evey day. during lockdown I did iron them myself it took an age but they were done. most things are ironed in my house. i can't bear creased clothes.

GladAllOver · 26/10/2021 22:09

What's an iron?

Cantstopeatingchocolate · 26/10/2021 22:22

@Echinops

I do at work, I fold it in half and half again, length ways, and iron down one side, then the other, then turn the fold the other way and iron those 2 sides, so I've done it in 4 panels, if that makes any sense.
Exactly how I do it too. Pull the corner of the sheet over the end of the board. And stretch the length along the board and iron, repeat on each corner. When you're finished, golf in half tick one corner inside out into the opposite one too and bottom then iron the rest. Fold up in half again and tuck the other corners i before folding into a neat rectangle. This will make sure it doesn't get creased again.
expatmigrant · 26/10/2021 22:30

I don't...wash and dry them and then take them to the local laundrette to get ironed Smile

Properjob · 26/10/2021 22:31

OP I'm with you, sleeping creases are different to washing machine creases, I hate polycotton (synthetic fibres should be banned anyway) and there is NOTHING like freshly ironed bedding. Everyone makes their own choices but as a working Mum (now retired) I always ironed it, even when it was a super king duvet and I was married to the selfish bastard-- father of my children (singles are of course much easier!) Just fold it in sections and iron both sides, while watching your fave telly program. Enjoy that feeling of smooth cotton comfort, and just a little smugness too Grin

Ibizafun · 26/10/2021 22:33

I don’t, my cleaner has the pleasure!

Patricia333 · 26/10/2021 22:52

I used to list “Ironing” as one of my hobbies on my CV.

“Used to” because I am now retired. The only things which I don’t iron are bras and any flimsy (e.g. silky or likely to melt) items. OH says he would never leave me - he’s got too used to ironed socks and knickers!

jwpetal · 26/10/2021 22:56

I don't

looby11 · 26/10/2021 23:12

Yup ironed bed sheets are just a pleasure thats worth the effort IMO. We used to send them off to get ironed at the laundrette but it ended up costing a fortune as i also wash them every 5 days or so ( pillowcases get changed even more frequently sometimes.
However i dont spend hours ironing- 5 mins max.
I do the fold twice, iron each side and then fold again iron until you have your shape that you store your duvet as. Worth the five mins it takes to iron for sure!!

FatOaf · 26/10/2021 23:13

I hate polycotton (synthetic fibres should be banned anyway)

Why should synthetic fibres be banned?

Cotton cultivation accounts for 16% of the world's insecticide use and 6% of the world's total pesticide use, in addition to which production of cotton cloth uses vast amounts of water. Cotton is very harmful to the environment.

Tircongal · 26/10/2021 23:19

Never have and never will iron bedclothes... Absolute madness Grin

nopuppiesallowed · 26/10/2021 23:19

I iron bedding while I'm watching tv - because I find it difficult just to sit (I'm a natural born fiddler). And it satisfies me to see neatly ironed bedding on a neatly made bed.

TSSDNCOP · 26/10/2021 23:22

Bedding, tea towels and pants are the only things I don't iron.
