Apart from messy? 🤣

Nothing wrong with B&M homewares per se @eisforemma but they seem to sell a particular style which is seen here (and I understand tbe budget point - my furniture is either second hand or IKEA). I could believe that everything in this room other than the sofa was bought there because it’s all in that sort of style and looks fairly new/modern.

Namechangenumber23 · 20/10/2021 13:36

Are those several feeding bowls for pets arranged in the doorway??

MrsRobbieHart · 20/10/2021 13:38

@Namechangenumber23

Are those several feeding bowls for pets arranged in the doorway??
Yes!!

I’m guessing because they have pets.

Notonthenewrug · 20/10/2021 13:38

It looks like everything was purchased for under £5 from Home Bargains...no offence to HB's, they have some good deals.
Not sure exactly how I would categorise it "style wise" but it looks like something that may have been "in fashion 10 years ago".
It's not my style but as long as the home owner loves it, then that's how it should be.

sammylady37 · 20/10/2021 13:40
@cloudtree some people on AIBU aren't able to articulate themselves very well unfortunately. It's not my living room - luckily due to some responses - but I would expect a grown up to be able to put into words what they don't like about something rather than saying 'shit box' and 'shabby shit'.
Well then, ask people what they don’t like about it, instead of asking (as you did) how they would describe it. They’re two different questions and while ‘shabby shit’ and ‘shit box’ aren’t nice responses, they’re valid responses to the question you asked.

Lime37 · 20/10/2021 13:42

It probably is classed as retro now as it looks like a fashion from late 90’s early 00’s god I feel old

irregularegular · 20/10/2021 13:43

It's not that bad. It's a bit pink and fluffy for my taste. But with a better quality photo it could look very different! It's a really rubbish angle and lighting.

It's not retro though.

shanmancan · 20/10/2021 13:47

@sammylady37 is shit box a style? The Op didn't ask you to describe it, she asked to describe the style. If we are being pedantic about the op not expressively asking people to write what they dislike then shit box is not describing a style, it's just being nasty.

GlitterBiscuits · 20/10/2021 13:51

I would rather live there than in a sea of grey with the ridiculous karate chop cushions

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 20/10/2021 14:00

It’s a bit of a mish-mash, the mirror doesn’t go and the rug clashes with the wallpaper. I think they’re going for some kind of French feminine retro style but have missed the mark a little. You’d have thought they’d tidy up before taking the pic and posting.

whattodo2019 · 20/10/2021 14:30

Teenagers sitting room

5thnonblonde · 20/10/2021 14:43

I’d call it Basic. But basic can be nice when done well- it just looks a bit like they saw a room set in Next and bought all of it

5thnonblonde · 20/10/2021 14:44

Agree with pps that with just slightly better photography it could probably look quite nice

Gin4thewin4 · 20/10/2021 14:46

I would of said moroccan 🤣🤣

Cherryana · 20/10/2021 14:54

I think a statement wallpaper wall is quite dated. It looks like someone has really tried to pull together the colours and soft furnishings. But it is not to my taste.

flirtygirl · 20/10/2021 15:15

Warm, eclectic and girly.

anonymousanne · 20/10/2021 15:23

Can't see what all the negativity is about. The room isn't my style but it's clearly the style of the home owner, which is all that matters really. It looks like they have tried to match things up and make it homely.
Having a baby and a toddler at home I also couldn't judge the 'mess', doesn't look like anything a 10 minute spruce up wouldn't solve.
We all have different styles, abilities and budgets. These comments are very rude and distasteful.
I do know someone with some learning disabilities who regularly posts pics of their home. The wall paper isn't matched up right, it's been done on a tight budget etc but to her it's perfect and she's proud of it. You never know the circumstances. Just concentrate on making your own home pleasing to your own eyes and ditch the unkind comments!

ApolloandDaphne · 20/10/2021 15:29

@AmyDudley

As an aside I have a friend who calls Pinterest 'Pee- Interest' - she won't be told its not said that way. Grin
I call it that too!
Anonymous48 · 20/10/2021 15:37

I don't know enough about interior design to know what "style", if any, this is supposed to be. It's not to my taste though. I quite like the wallpaper, but I think it would need someone talented to make it work well in a room.
But, OP, yelling at other people for being rude when you were literally rude in your first post makes you seem unreasonable.

Gonnagetgoing · 20/10/2021 15:38

I suppose it is romantic/boudoir - but I agree it's 00s style but certainly not retro.

It does scream messy, especially with the sofa and are they posters piled together against a wall?

AryaStarkWolf · 20/10/2021 15:39
@Aquamarine1029 yes I agree. I seen it on Pinterest Confused and it's god awful. Someone called it 'retro' - I think not.
definitely not retro

I would say "Tacky"

cloudtree · 20/10/2021 15:44

I’m pretty sure it’s the OPs room so people should be a bit more sensitive (although I appreciate its in aibu). Pinterest links to websites, not personal photos.

liveforsummer · 20/10/2021 15:49

I don't know but that picture is really upsetting me, like it was hung as a square but slipped really badly!

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 20/10/2021 15:50

Like the hanging plant holders - remember my grandmother having them back in the 1970s.
As for the rest? I think it was styled at one time in the past but the life of the people in the house has moved on & bits have been added that don't 'fit'.
