To ask what style you would use to describe this living room?

Never considered that colour but I actually like it, its plain-ish and will look homely and cozy once tidied up.

Justcallmebebes · 20/10/2021 12:56

"Well I would think you'd at least tidy it up a bit first if you're going to. Like tidy away that big cable I'm middle of room or fold the blanket etc."

They obviously don't care about being judged as much as you do.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 20/10/2021 12:58

Why the fuck are people being so rude about someone's home?

And @iamnickiminaj why the fuck are you posting pictures of someone else's house judging it and asking others to judge it too?!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 20/10/2021 12:58

And before some smart arse says it, its not my home!

iamnickiminaj · 20/10/2021 12:59

I don't know why some people need to be so rude on here as stated up thread. It was put on Pinterest for the world to see and had called it retro. I don't think it's retro so was just looking to see how others would describe the style.
@cloudtree some people on AIBU aren't able to articulate themselves very well unfortunately. It's not my living room - luckily due to some responses - but I would expect a grown up to be able to put into words what they don't like about something rather than saying 'shit box' and 'shabby shit'.
OK, I don't feel that the pink elements and the grey elements work together at all. The rug is of a style that I would never buy because it looks grubby and worn out even when brand new. The floor lamp in cream doesn't go with anything else, and there seem to be bits of textiles emerging from the item of furniture on the right. There's a cover on the (very dated) sofa that doesn't fit. The overall impression is of secondhand furniture and a not very clean room.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/10/2021 13:02

@AmyDudley

As an aside I have a friend who calls Pinterest 'Pee- Interest' - she won't be told its not said that way. Grin
In my head I always call “LinkedIn” “Link London” as I get the letters mixed up
AutistAwayWithUrConditionalLuv · 20/10/2021 13:02

Doesn't look retro to me at all...more old-modern (00s - 2010s), if that even makes sense. Maybe that's what they mean by retro, not as in 'retro-retro'. Lol

ShirleyPhallus · 20/10/2021 13:02

Also absolutely lolling over the answers on here. MN is brutal Grin

Wherever that picture is from, I don't think the OP found it on Pinterest. I have spent more time than I should have looking at Pinterest interiors over the years and have never, ever seen a picture that looks like that (messy presentation)

Well it's definitely retro. I'm not sure the nineties is a happening trend though.

Neither the carpet nor the rug is thick enough to be cosy, which is why it looks so drab - they look as if they've both been chosen to be hardwearing in a passageway room.

Clandestin · 20/10/2021 13:06

I think it's fine, and is the better for having no particular aesthetic.

At least it doesn't look like those tragic rooms in newbuild estate showhomes where everything comes straight from the same Homestaging 101 catalogue, all furniture is slightly smaller than average to make the rooms look spacious, and the dining tables are always formally set with terrible etched wineglasses, artificial floral centrepieces, and a soup bowl nested inside a side plate nested inside a dinner plate at each setting, on an elaborate table mat, complete with elaborate napkin in a napkin ring.

Zippyzoppy · 20/10/2021 13:07

Feminine/girly.

ElftonWednesday · 20/10/2021 13:07

Chavvy chic.

OverweightPidgeon · 20/10/2021 13:08

It’s someone’s home and they obviously like it enough to put it on the internet, we can’t all be interior designers.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 20/10/2021 13:09

"I don't think it's retro so was just looking to see how others would describe the style."

Oh come on, own it at least. You are judging in your very first post (messy) so stop being so disingenuous.

Perhaps you know whose house it is and you're being specifically unkind to someone one. Or you just want to see others judge someone else's home for "entertainment".

Not a good look either way, and some posters here should be embarrassed about their comments. And preferably post pictures of their own home if they think this is entertainment.

Dahliadelight · 20/10/2021 13:09

Why would you tell people off for saying Shabby Shit after you said messy?

eisforemma · 20/10/2021 13:11

@FangsForTheMemory aww look at you using your big girl words! Well done you clever cookie!

Yes all the nasty posters, let's see a pic of your living room. I dare you!!Grin

eisforemma · 20/10/2021 13:12

To be fair to the OP, I wouldn't mind someone coming into my house saying it's a bit messy, mess can be tidy. Someone calling my home shit on the other hand...
Feelingofftoday · 20/10/2021 13:13

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles
Off topic... I love your name

godmum56 · 20/10/2021 13:13

I would say "romantic/boudoir"

ElftonWednesday · 20/10/2021 13:14

It's not someone coming into your home saying it though, it's a random person on the internet's home who will never see the comments. People will be a little more honest than if they were saying it to someone in real life.
