Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
elodie77 · 20/10/2021 12:22

Just to be clear...... are you saying then, that anyone who is a millionaire should not be allowed to stand as an MP???!!!

I'm saying that I question a man (and the judgment of people who 'really, really like him') who is a millionaire himself and is planning "painful cuts to local councils, further education and prisons".

Mamamia7962 · 20/10/2021 12:23

Tory

Bloodypunkrockers · 20/10/2021 12:24

I would vote Tory

It's a two horse race here between them and SNP and our sitting MP is a vile, thick hypocrite so if Tory can get him out, that's where my vote is going

Maireas · 20/10/2021 12:24

I have a Labour MP who marketed herself well, but is absolutely useless. I emailed her about something and she took months to send a generic reply, "so busy because of covid".
I then saw on the news how hard David Amess worked as an MP, meeting constituents and dealing with issues. I'll have to see who's standing against her next time.

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/10/2021 12:26

I wouldn’t vote Tory because I suspect that they are almost as useless when it comes to women’s rights as Labour. Plus I disagree with them on just about everything. I would like to vote Labour, wish they’d get their act together and stop trying to make out that feminists are dinosaurs.

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/10/2021 12:29

“How would you explain the fact that since the advent of, TV the better looking candidate always wins?“

Now explain this with reference to the 2016 US election. Grin

(I would tend to agree that the more charismatic person usually wins, depressingly)

FleetwoodRaincoat · 20/10/2021 12:32

This is such a depressing thread. People saying they'd vote Tory, despite the shitshow they've managed to produce; worst Covid figures in Europe, more deaths, economy down the pan etc etc. Nasty, racist MPs.

And then people still trying to blame Angela Rayner for David Amess' death??

And saying there's no alternative? Anything is better than what we've got. Anything.

SprayedWithDettol · 20/10/2021 12:32

I’ve never and won’t ever vote Tory. I would spoil my ballot if there was an election now - as until there is a party who supports women’s sex based rights, they can all fuck off. (I always voted Lib Dem for background)

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/10/2021 12:32

“I just wish labour would figure itself out and stop turning it inside out. Or just split up and create two parties have the very left momentum one side & the middle ones on the other (I think a few tories candidates would move across to them) and we may just get a party the country needs and would be voted for.”

That would split the vote though. We’d end up with a de facto one party system.

Agreed.
TheRiat · 20/10/2021 12:39

Lifelong Tory Voter here, and would not hesitate to vote for them again.
Do I think they have done a great job and not told porkies along the way? Of course not, but do I think Boris was handed a sh** show of crappy hand. First Brexit and then Covid.

Im affraid I also agree with the removal of the universal credit uplift payment.

And before anyone says anything, I have been in debt with not a penny to rub together, unemployed, a new born at home, living in rented housing and couldnt even afford to get a full shop to feed us all. And do you know what I did, I went and got a job and rose through the ranks. Oh and quite the fags.

endofagain · 20/10/2021 12:41

I used to think I would like to vote Green. Then Challenor happened, then Bristow.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 12:41

Johnson wasn't "handed" Brexit.

He was responsible for making it happen.

TheRiat · 20/10/2021 12:46

Agreed he wasnt handed it fine, but could you have dealt with all the pressure complexities of it along with COVID.

I think it would also be interesting to see the age of people who vote one way or the other. Maybe im just not woke.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 12:56

It's irrelevant whether I could have dealt with it. I'm not putting myself forward to be Prime Minister. Johnson did.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 12:58

What does 'woke' have to do with it?

TheRiat · 20/10/2021 12:59

Also a fair comment, but still a very very tough job given the circumstances.

TheRiat · 20/10/2021 13:00

The other side of coin, would JC have dealt with it any better and in my personal view, not a chance in hell.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 13:01

Well, that's irrelevant now as well, isn't it? We're talking about the next election, not the last one.
Toodlydoo · 20/10/2021 13:03

I always think threads like this are supposed to somehow shame people who have voted Conservative and somehow “help” Labour. This kind of thing doesn’t increase the number of people happy to vote Labour, it mainly makes floating voters roll their eyes.

Also people who have voted Conservatives aren’t suddenly going to be like “ omg I’ve just realised what a terrible person I have been! I will definitely vote Labour at the next election”.

thinkbiglittleone · 20/10/2021 13:04

@x2boys

What's the alternative?
Not voting Tory Confused
Alconleigh · 20/10/2021 13:08

I'd contemplate voting Tory yes, as they are the only ones as far as I can see that aren't trying to legislate that being a woman is nothing more than a feeling in a man's head.
And yes, they are a shower of shit that has caused a lot of harm. But a lot of that is done. My sex based rights currently still exist. Although they are under constant attack. It's more important to me than any other issue. Because once our sex based rights are gone, they are gone. And there are thousands of women (and men tbf) that feel the same. Labour should really pay attention.

prudencepuffin · 20/10/2021 13:09

Have never voted Tory and never would, but on the other hand, I wont vote for a party that doesnt seem to know what a woman is, so for the first time ever, probably wont be able to vote which is depressing.

Hemingwayscats · 20/10/2021 13:10

They’d still win and it’s mostly because people buy into Boris’s absolute bollocks. That and the fact they have no viable opposition.

I’m a leftie and I feel politically homeless because every left party seems to want to eradicate women.
