Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:

This thread is just a vehicle for tory bots. Don’t fall for it people.

Sn0tnose · 20/10/2021 13:22

I cannot bring myself to vote Tory. But, for me, there is no viable alternative. So unless one of the other parties changes their policies on the GRA and self ID, I’ll be spoiling my ballot paper.

politics4me · 20/10/2021 13:24

No other Party is united, nor do they have a plan for everyday things.
Labour were supposed to be forming a plan at Conference.
A Party might collect a few votes if they promised to re-join EU but so far the EU has not been asked.

SNP has no plan other than Indy-ref2 would it win?
No heads down swallow differences for now and all work together.
First we all need to fight the imposition of the extremist Green agenda that Carrie has devised for us.
The rate at which it will be brought in is not affordable for many people. Put some of it out to 2050 so we can cope.

FlipFlops4Me · 20/10/2021 13:27

I'd vote Green in the depressing knowledge that in my constituency the Tory Party has such a stranglehold that I am, in effect, throwing away my vote. I thought about Labour last time but there was Jeremy Corbyn.... so I voted Green.

My heart lies with Labour but some of the are such pillocks! Mind you, the whole rancid Tory Party is populated by total gob-shites.

Mantlemoose · 20/10/2021 13:29

Me because they're the best of the shit choices available

WhiskyXray · 20/10/2021 13:32

You have to wonder how anyone could look around at this fucking omnishambles and say, "Yes please! Five more years of this shit, thanks!"

TheRiat · 20/10/2021 13:32

Can we hear from someone what Labours economics policies are, without looking them up, or maybe their healthcare policy or their education policy?

bridepanic · 20/10/2021 13:32

I see absolutely no alternative. I took very little pleasure in voting at the last election and I would take even less this time, but I feel there's only one viable option for me. My fiancé and I did discuss this recently and said we might both not vote if an election was called tomorrow, something I've never considered before.

GotLittUp · 20/10/2021 13:34

I will almost certainly end up spoiling my ballot. I won't vote tory, but all of the other parties have made it very clear that they don't have any interest in protecting women's rights so won't get my vote either.

I dont think people are, it's just a lot of people can't see a better alternative

Me too.
Justcallmebebes · 20/10/2021 13:40

What's the alternative?

^This. I've just completed a survey asking who you would vote for if there was a GE tomorrow and I had not got a clue. Feel totally cast adrift politically

FinallyHere · 20/10/2021 13:41

Tories here have a comfortable 20k plus lead over all the other parties put together.

I shall have to see the candidates, but would probably go for 'none of the above' if it were an option. I shall vote but perhaps spoil my ballot paper.

Justcallmebebes · 20/10/2021 13:41

^ This is exactly what the Lib Dems promised in the last election and looked what happened to them!

Ellie56 · 20/10/2021 13:42

I won't be voting Tory (I didn't last time either) but they'll still get in as it's one of their safe seats. Sad

conflictednow · 20/10/2021 13:42

SNP
Dont agree with everything they have done, but better than Tory. If Scottish labour could get their act together, i'd maybe think twice.
In a scottish election now, SNP first vote and Green list vote.

Thecurliestwurly · 20/10/2021 13:46

Voted for all the main parties before. Would never vote Tory again (haven't for some time). If Lib Dems came out of the shadows and I actually knew what they represented I might vote for them. Or Labour if a tactical vote.

I think the opposition parties are lying pretty low on purpose and letting the blame for the current crap land squarely in the Tories lap. I don't think they would lead the country if they got offered it tomorrow as the Tories would just blame them for the mess the Tories created in the following years (and there is a lot of mess economically). They are making sure they own their mistakes, and rightly so.

That’s the same here. And actually the Lib Dem’s are the ones most likely to kick them out so I’ll vote for them instead.
BigWoollyJumpers · 20/10/2021 13:52

People might vote Conservative because they have an excellent local MP. David Amess is a classic example. He was beloved by his constituents, DESPITE being a Tory. Just imagine, there are actually some very good MP's out there, of all parties. JRM is another classic example. Universally disliked, apparently, but he is also a very active and present local MP, so get's support locally.

I think lots and lots of people vote on local lines, more than some commentators seem to recognise.

Maireas · 20/10/2021 14:01

I think you're right, @BigWoollyJumpers especially based my experience upthread.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 20/10/2021 14:02

Seeing as I'm an adult human female.
Yes. I'll be voting Conservative.

Pythone · 20/10/2021 14:02

This thread is a great illustration of how the Tories manage to hang onto power. It feels like for people on the left, everything has to align perfectly or the parties split, people won't vote for a party that they don't agree with on every single issue (as if parties in power even stick completely to their manifestos and pre-election promises anyway), etc. Why not be a bit more pragmatic about it, like Tory voters? Do you think they all agree with everything the party does? No, but they have the good sense to see that it's better to have your party in government even if you don't 100% agree with them than to have them not be in power (for a decade and counting), even if they aren't perfect. It's so frustrating. Why would you rather spoil your ballot than even have a chance of helping to vote the Tories out? What does that realistically achieve? "Please do better and maybe I'll vote for you in 4 years' time." Great.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 14:11

@Ducksareruiningmypatio

Seeing as I'm an adult human female. Yes. I'll be voting Conservative.
There is no way my vote would be dependent solely on this issue.

What do you think the Tories are doing or will continue to do for you as a woman?
