Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 11:46

@Dancerinthedark01

You might like to believe that you're only affected by actual policies, but that's not how voting works.

I vote for policies. Charisma is a trick. You’ve only got to look at dear old BJ to see that.

That may be true for you and others who have a genuine interest in politics/government but its5not true for the wider population. How would you explain the fact that since the advent of, TV the better looking candidate always wins?
rossclare · 20/10/2021 11:47

I’d vote Tory. I’ve voted Labour before, but I think that rishi will be pm soon and I really, really like him.

19lottie82 · 20/10/2021 11:48

Yes, purely tactical against the SNP.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 20/10/2021 11:49

There really is no hope.
PersephoneJames · 20/10/2021 11:51

I wouldn’t although I wouldn’t be devastated if my local MP got back in, which he will as my constituency is blue as can be. But he’s stood up to Boris before and lost the whip over it, and is chairing the COVID inquiry and is a decent sort and a good constituency MP. God knows why he’s still a Tory as Tory is no longer Tory is seems, just BNP in blue. I think a lot of them know this and are hoping it all goes back to how it was!

I’ll vote lib dem as they tend to come second in my constituency.

elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:51

Yeah blimey. I think they're doing alright. I'd vote for them again.

From their own propaganda machine Hmm

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 20/10/2021 11:51

Don’t forget that most of the time, more of us vote for something other than the winning party, but due to our crap system, our votes are wasted.

rossclare · 20/10/2021 11:52

And this, my love, is why these posts are so one sided.

You are shutting some one down and deriding them because you don’t agree with them.

Is this what you teach your children?

Whammyyammy · 20/10/2021 11:54

Id vote tory, as cant stand Labour and the rest would be a wasted vote imo 🤷‍♂️

VladmirsPoutine · 20/10/2021 11:55

People are going to vote Tory. They love suffering, they enjoy it. It's a British kink.

ChorizoJacketPotato · 20/10/2021 11:57

They’re all shit.

elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:58

but I think that rishi will be pm soon and I really, really like him.

Rossclare, if you think Rishi Sunak is going to improve the quality of life of most people, you're in for a shock. Or what is the reason you 'really, really like him'?

Rishi Sunak thinks people should be grateful for the decade of austerity in the UK, and despite his denials there will certainly be more...and he is a millionaire married to a billionaire, he's got no skin in the game. These are the people you vote for...

Don't be ridiculous, Instead of bitching about other folk voting for Tory, maybe look at why Labour are unelectable.
Narutocrazyfox · 20/10/2021 11:59

I've not voted Tory in the past, but would to keep Labour out. The tories are terrible, but Labour are much worse.

rossclare · 20/10/2021 12:06

And you think Keir or whoever you vote for is going to be so great because.......?

I think rishi is an excellent exchequer with a fantastic mathematical brain, a family man, great role model and I think he generally gives a shit.

I’m not asking foryou or anyone to agree though, because, you know, we can all have our own opinion?

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 12:06

Rishi is definitely electable. Regardless of his policies he could win an election.

What's the quote "the best thing about democracy is the alternatives?"

HarrietsChariot · 20/10/2021 12:07

Usually vote Tory but spoilt my ballot in 2019 because every candidate was awful. If there was a general election right now I'd probably do the same again. Since Cameron threw his toys out of the pram over Brexit the Tories have been a complete shambles. I'd consider voting Labour if they actually had some proper ideas and a workable plan, and didn't resort to calling their opponents "scum" and the like. Never thought I'd ever even consider Labour, I've never forgiven them for fucking me over by introducting tuition fees for university or for fucking the country over generally under Blair.

It's a waste of time voting for the other parties, all we get here are the main three plus Green (more pie in the sky than Labour) and UKIP. I'd perhaps consider a protest vote for the BNP if they stood here, the SNP seem to be wildly popular north of the border so it would be worth giving the main division a go.

Just to be clear...... are you saying then, that anyone who is a millionaire should not be allowed to stand as an MP???!!!

ProudMaiasaura · 20/10/2021 12:14

I won't vote Tory but living in a Labour/Tory swing seat means that if I vote for anyone apart from Labour I may as well be voting Tory...however I refuse to vote Labour now too so my vote will go to the candidate that I like best now - which in reality should be how we're voting anyway.

My local MP is currently labour and is a massive hypocrite. Can't abide them!

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 12:14

I paraphrased Grin

It was Churchill

“democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried.”

elodie77 · 20/10/2021 12:18

Keir Starmer is a former human rights lawyer, someone who is intelligent, trustworthy and who has integrity. We could do with qualities like that.

How are Labour much worse?
Getawaywithit · 20/10/2021 12:19

Labour. I naturally swing towards Green but it would be a wasted vote in this consitutency (I'm in a swing constitutency and it is basically 50/50 Tories/Labour) if I want the Tories out.

FangsForTheMemory · 20/10/2021 12:20

I'd probably vote green, tbh.

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 12:21

I'm not saying it's right that a good looking charismatic politician will be the most electable, but parties need to acknowledge that is the case. They need to accept that the "leader" is an electable figurehead for those doing the real work behind the scenes. Which does rather make a mockery of democracy, but that's how voters behave.
