Who would vote Tory and why?

Iggly · 20/10/2021 10:54

@GCITC

I'd most likely spoil my ballot. Left wing politically homeless voter.
The problem with that is that it lets the Tories in.

That’s my bottom line. Get them out.

Iggly · 20/10/2021 10:55

@DelilahDingleberry

I’d vote for Labour. My priority is getting the Tories out and Labour are the only ones who can do that. For me the situation is far too bad to be voting idealistically so it’s a “least worst” vote.
^this

Ideologically I sit with the greens.

But pragmatically, it has to be Labour until the voting system changes.

The debate about women’s rights - I’m not comforted that the Tories will do anything to sort this. They’re the ones in power and have been since 2010 and under their watch all of this nonsense has happened.

Livpool · 20/10/2021 10:55

I have never and would never vote Tory.

Labour are a mess at the minute so I would probably spoil my vote

Dancerinthedark01 · 20/10/2021 10:56

For those of you who’d vote Tory because there’s no other option: do you see the destruction that coincides with them being in power for 11 years?

Would you be wanting more of this?

Clearly 😂

I’m struggling with the logic of “the Tories have fucked up, but there’s no alternative, so let’s give them another 5 years to fuck up some more”

MrsFin · 20/10/2021 10:58

Me. Mainly because I'm anti-Labour rather than pro-Tory.

Mistressofnone · 20/10/2021 10:58

I voted Tory in the local elections but no general. But I don't think this thread will be insightful as everyone knows if you vote Tory you can't admit it. Or you must face the wrath of people who disagree.

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 10:58

I'm generally left leaning and don't vote Tory, but I can see why people have/do.

All the Bexit, immigration/refugee, benefit scroungers stuff plays to people's insecurities and Labour are still practically invisible. Unless you make a point of really looking for it (and why would a Conservative voter do that?) there's no information out there about how they'd deal with any of it, so people are left thinking it would be a free for all paid for by their taxes.

I'm really disappointed in Labour atm.

Coulddowithanap · 20/10/2021 11:00

I don't know who I'd vote for. Not really much choice.

endofagain · 20/10/2021 11:01

I don't support locking up vulnerable women with convicted rapists, nor do I agree with using dangerous experimental drugs on children and chopping off their body parts. I have major concerns about violence against women and girls and find the level of rape and sexual assault in schools pretty shocking.
So I don't have anybody to vote for, except maybe the new SDP or the communist party. but they don't have a representative in my constituency.

Watchingyou2sleezes · 20/10/2021 11:02

None of the 3 main parties (in England) are worthy of voting for. I would subscribe to the view point that the Tories are just about the least shit of a very bad batch.
I just wish people had the guts to break the mold and vote for some of the other parties out there.
Our current system makes this seriously unlikely.
Unfortunately we'll have idiots making laws for a long time yet.

Dancerinthedark01 · 20/10/2021 11:03

I'm really disappointed in Labour atm.

I am too @PackedintheUK

I think they should split into 2 separate parties or change their leader. BUT in the meantime I’d vote for them or any decent party to get these current Tory bstads out.

My emphasis is on current because these Tories are worse than any other IMO

OP posts:
SuperstoreFan · 20/10/2021 11:05

I'd spoil my ballot, Labour have failed to take advantage of the numerous Conservative fuck ups over the past year or so.

NoDecentHandlesLeft · 20/10/2021 11:08

loads of people, I assume.
If everything else didn't stop them last time, then I doubt anything since will have.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/10/2021 11:08

I’m hoping the quagmire and sit will dissolve and another party can emerge. I’m politically homeless. Wherever I look, parties are eroding our rights. Sex based ones for most parties then with the tories, human rights. There is no one to vote for.

olidora63 · 20/10/2021 11:08

I think a lot of people who voted Tory last time did so because of Brexit. Think a lot of usual labour voters will go back to labour. It’s very clear that the Torys do not have lower paid workers as a priority.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/10/2021 11:08

*shit

oldwhyno · 20/10/2021 11:11

Genuinely don't want to think about it. The Tories need a kick up the arse, but Labour are an absolute shower.

elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:12

I'd spoil my ballot

But that's so stupid, you're enabling the Tories to continue with their destructive power grab.

Did you see the thread about Dominic Raab says he wants to bring in a system which allows the Government to legislate against UK court judgements in human rights cases if it doesn't like them. Without going through a debate or a vote in Parliament.?

There IS an alternative and it's miles better than the Tories who have presided over years of misery and chaos.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 11:12

@Mybalconyiscracking

There is one of these threads at least once per week. Why is it your business OP?
Nobody is compelling you to contribute.
ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 11:15

@StayAGhost

Sadly Labour have specifically stated that, as a woman, they do not want my vote

I'm leftish leaning, but would hold my nose a vote Tory because of this

Nothing would induce me to vote for a continuation of this government and certainly not this issue alone.
MakkaPakkas · 20/10/2021 11:16

I've never felt more meh about politics. I've nearly always voted Labour, with an occasional vote for green or lib Dems. I have a good Labour MP. I'm happy with kier starmer, I was really excited about Corbyn.
I think I'd either go green or labour this time.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 11:16

@DelilahDingleberry

Same here. My only priority is removing the present government.
Florianus · 20/10/2021 11:17

@Iggly

To be honest I would vote Labour. The biggest difference we need is a change of leader and while I think Kier Starmer is just not sparky enough - look what we’ve got by people voting for Boris because of his personality?

If voting for boring Kier means that we get a bit of sensible, straight laced government then that’ll do me quite frankly.

Special K unfortunatly comes with the foul-mouthed Rayner - Labour remains unelectable without a large injection of charisma.
WhoWearsShortShorts · 20/10/2021 11:17

Oh goody another one of these threads where Tory voters are derided as thickies who only voted Conservative because they think BoJo is "funny" or because they're right wing racist bigots. Not because they decided party policies aligned with their values or because Labour policies were absolutely crackers and Corbyn would have been an awful choice as PM. Or because they voted for the best candidate in their local area.

Why not join the Labour Party and try to improve things instead of waiting about for them to form a credible opposition if you think Conservatives are so awful. Unfortunately the government in most people's opinions handled furlough and the rollout of the vaccine rather well, so a lot of people outside mumsnet and twitter are probably OK with the way things are going.
