Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
RavingAnnie · 20/10/2021 11:19

I honestly don't know who I'd vote for. It's really depressing.

elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:20

foul-mouthed Rayner - Labour remains unelectable without a large injection of charisma.

If these are your biggest problems with political leaders you need to re-evaluate your priorities.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/10/2021 11:21

@StayAGhost

Sadly Labour have specifically stated that, as a woman, they do not want my vote

I'm leftish leaning, but would hold my nose a vote Tory because of this

This. I can't vote Labour as they've made their views on women pretty clear, as have the Greens and Lib Dems. My only alternative is an independent.

That's nonsense. It's just fact that charisma is a large part of what wins elections. You might like to believe that you're only affected by actual policies, but that's not how voting works.
elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:22

Not because they decided party policies aligned with their values

Go on, enlighten us about these policies that align with your values?

TidyDancer · 20/10/2021 11:22

I couldn't bring myself to vote Tory but I've honestly got no idea who I would actually vote for now. Labour have such objectionable views on women's rights that I couldn't in good conscience vote for them and they would be my usual go to. There have been no decent local candidates for years so can't even make a decision based on that.

Firesidefox · 20/10/2021 11:23

I would vote Tory because Labour disgust me. Not that I think the current government is much good, but they're the lesser of two evils to be sure.

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/10/2021 11:23

I wouldn’t never have but there are very little alternatives unfortunately

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 11:24

Labour without the female vote really are in trouble. I don't understand why they don't see the damage they're doing to themselves.

Dancerinthedark01 · 20/10/2021 11:24

I vote for policies. Charisma is a trick. You’ve only got to look at dear old BJ to see that.

I'm rather interested in that too.
elodie77 · 20/10/2021 11:26

Unfortunately the government in most people's opinions handled furlough and the rollout of the vaccine rather well, so a lot of people outside mumsnet and twitter are probably OK with the way things are going.

Blimey.

"The report, by the Health and Social Care Committee and the Science and Technology Committee, says the late lockdown in the early stages of the pandemic is "one of the most important public health failures the United Kingdom has ever experienced".

It also describes the start of the NHS Test and Trace system as "slow, uncertain and often chaotic".

VeniVidiWeeWee · 20/10/2021 11:27

@Dancerinthedark01

I'm really disappointed in Labour atm.

I am too @PackedintheUK

I think they should split into 2 separate parties or change their leader. BUT in the meantime I’d vote for them or any decent party to get these current Tory bstads out.

My emphasis is on current because these Tories are worse than any other IMO

Oh good.

2 MPs murdered in 5 years and you still use perjorative language.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 20/10/2021 11:29

I'd like to vote Labour, but as a woman there is no way they will get my vote.

x2boys · 20/10/2021 11:29

This thread is going the same way all these threads go people are giving their reasons for voting the way they do and then being berated for doing so.

StormzyinaTCup · 20/10/2021 11:30

Floating voter historically but voted Tory last time and probably would again. Labour need to get their act together, work out what they stand for and become a more credible party. I don’t think the country as a whole needs a drastic lurch left (into the unknown and possibly far left) whilst we are in unstable times. Even a GE right now would be massively unsettling.

FreeBritnee · 20/10/2021 11:31

Tories are the only party who vaguely recognises im a person so they are the only party I can vote for.

Cantthinkofaname21 · 20/10/2021 11:32

No idea - not a fan of tories ..Boris is an embarrassment.
Previously voted labour, Lib Dem’s & green.

I live in a very Tory area but still feel my vote counts (naively)

I just wish labour would figure itself out and stop turning it inside out. Or just split up and create two parties have the very left momentum one side & the middle ones on the other (I think a few tories candidates would move across to them) and we may just get a party the country needs and would be voted for.

Maybe

sarahc336 · 20/10/2021 11:32

Always been labour but would struggle to tick their box at the min, not sure who I'd vote for tbh. I suspect the Tory's would still win at the min though x

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 11:33

I would either spoil my paper or not vote. I live in a massively safe seat and even if you added all the votes not for the MP together, the MP would still be re-elected. In previous elections my vote against him has been entirely symbolic.

lululu16 · 20/10/2021 11:34

Green!

amylou8 · 20/10/2021 11:37

I'd vote Reform UK. I was a strong remainer but it's happened now. I don't agree with everything that Nigel says, but on covid and lockdowns he's been spot on and vocal since day one.

tara66 · 20/10/2021 11:38

There's no one to vote for any more. But I vote by postal ballot now however simply because if you don't vote you get endless people ringing doorbell on voting day til 10 o'clock at night! I vote for most obscure person.

WhoWearsShortShorts · 20/10/2021 11:44

Yeah blimey. I think they're doing alright. I'd vote for them again.

^Agreed. It’s something I’m going to be grappling with come the next election.
