Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
SpeedRunParent · 21/10/2021 13:31

I would dearly hope that, whichever way people choose to vote, they do so because they have taken the time to read the highlights ( at least) of each manifesto and review the voting records of the prominent mp's. If then they can say, hand on heart, these people largely represent the interests of the people of the U.K then democracy is in action.
If, however, they lazily trot out media hatchet job opinions and three-word slogans aimed at people who can't be arsed to think then that is not democracy, it's idiocy. Either way, people are entitled to vote how they please, I just hope they take the vote seriously and not just vote over a single headline issue whilst ignoring the good of the whole country.

@elodie77

Well I'm certainly not deluded enough to earnestly suggest that I can show someone the error of their ways because of my Vastly Superior Knowledge (TM)

I did nothing of the sort. I picked holes in someone's argument and they threw a tantrum and refused to engage further. This is a fairly typical attitude of many Tories who except to call the shots (and not be challenged) but also manage to portray themselves as victims somehow. I haven't assumed 'victimhood' here despite your really quite offensive posts (which I am bringing up because your criticisms of my posting style).

Do you think most voters are well informed on the policies of the main parties?

Yeh no.

You really are unaware.

You are unpleasant enough to avoid. And no great shakes for the left.

All that aggression is putting people off.

HarrietPierce · 21/10/2021 13:36

It is so childish to refer to Keir Starmer as Keith or as some numpties do as Kieth.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 13:37

MarshaBradyo And here we go with the personal attacks.

Really? You are unaware of your aggression Confused

Otherwise you would recognise why you put people off.

I wouldn't vote Tory ever in a million years. I am gender critical but it's not a bigger issue than everything else the Tories have ever done. Quite frankly I think anyone who votes Tory - especially after the shitshow of the last two years - is a selfish moron.

I live in a very safe Tory seat. I vote for whoever I think stands the best chance of beating the Tories (except UKIP etc) - no-one ever does, but they sometimes give them a run for their money. My vote splits between Labour, Lib Dem and Green. I would happily vote for a progressive alliance, which I think is the only way we're going to get the Tories out anytime soon.

It's a bizarre situation-if we vote tory because we don't like what Labour is currently saying (I dont) we "punish" Labour and ourselves at the same time.
I'm not sure KS is a strong enough leader to hold off the more extreme Labour elements.
I couldn't bring myself to vote tory. What to do?
Labour needs to split.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 13:52

You hounded and hectored a poster who quite reasonably didn't want to engage.?

Really? She stated her issues with the proposed Labour policies and I commented on them with a couple of questioning emojis and suddenly she was the victim.

If anything you and Marsha are hounding me and have moved from robust debate to personal attacks. And your only defence on your offensive posting is to suggest I 'get out more'.

Again I don’t have to answer your posts so why not just leave it there instead of going on.
Hairbrush123 · 21/10/2021 14:01

I voted Tories last time but I certainly won’t again. I would vote for an Independent candidate or Lib Dem.

Pythonista · 21/10/2021 14:06

@NotPersephone

So if you think someone is crap at their job, you use an "amusing" nickname?

Yes, sometimes.

With that kind of Socratic argument, perhaps you should stand for office?

What makes you think I haven't? Congratulations on using a clever word, though. Clap, clap.

What word in particular is "clever"?
Ajl46 · 21/10/2021 14:07

I expect the Tories will pick up quite a few votes from women worried about the erosion of women's sex-based rights given the recent Labour & Lib Dem statements on the topic.

Surely you'd keep voting Scots Nats after independence? Haven't they got a post independence programme?

@Maireas why surely? I believe independence is in the best interest of Scotland and its people. That doesn't mean I'm tied to voting for the SNP for life. They just happen to be only party with any chance of getting it done so that's who I vote for. If we gained independence I'd assess how each party aligns with my views and make my decision then.

@NotPersephone - funny how you accuse me of being aggressive, considering your post. And I'm fully aware of where 'Keith' came from. I think the same of anyone who uses it. And what his parents chose to name him is hardly his fault. I'm not a fan of Abbott and I am a fan of Lammy. But neither is 'thick' your horrible word. Raab on the other hand...
