Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
LakieLady · 21/10/2021 12:03

I'd vote for whichever party was most likely to beat the Tories. Where I live, this is the LDs.

I'm sick of seeing our public services failing because of funding cuts, people needing to use food banks, seeing the poorest and most vulnerable being shat on etc.

Sadly, I don't think Starmer's Labour really offers much of an alternative. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll probably never see another Labour government in my lifetime.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 12:08

Since MarshaBradyo is unable to engage in debate can anyone else who thinks the current Labour leadership is 'far left', 'extreme' etc explain what are the current Labour policies that have been mentioned in speeches by Keir Starmer or Rachel Reeves that they find too 'far left' for them and also what Conservatives policies they agree with?

TIA

Political discourse is part of the problem for the left.

Too aggressive and defensive.

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2021 12:13

It doesn’t bother me so much as I’m a middle ground voter and either side can offer medium spending - Blair included

But the left who care and go on the attack will be disappointed for years

BigWoollyJumpers · 21/10/2021 12:26

Sadly it is being updated, so not currently available, but we all (DH, myself, 2 x DD's), did the "Policies not Parties", election manifesto tracker, prior to the last election, to see where our priorities lay. We were all (inc. interestingly, the teens), pretty much bang on the centre. The girls bang in the middle of centre, myself marginally to the right, DH squarely in the right.

@malificent7

I'd vote Green despite the fact that their gender politics are rubbish.Fed up with people fretting about climate change but not voting for people who care about it properly. Everone else will disagree but hey ho.
I am very concerned about the environment but have generally been unimpressed by GPEW's policies and actions on what should be their core issue. The only way that we are going to go down to zero emissions for energy generation is through nuclear power. They also oppose projects intended to cause modal shift from road and air to rail. Their mismanagement of Brighton also leads me not to trust them.
einekleinenachtarbeit · 21/10/2021 12:44

Ah @NotPersephone the poster who thinks nurses are paid too much cos she's married to a consultant lol. How do you know Starmer isn't good at his job ?

einekleinenachtarbeit · 21/10/2021 12:49

@MarshaBradyo but you are not centre ground if you support the current manifestation of the tory party. More like right wing populist. And to turn the whole debate into 'your side is losing' is somewhat daft, we are all losing and we should be able to call it out.

‘Call it out’ ok…

Anyway yes I am middle ground as I’ve voted Labour in past and last election they were too far left.

If you look at the voting it wasn’t uncommon. It’s why they got so comprehensively beaten.

You can tell people they are wrong as happens so often but it’s not listening is it?

I thought the left said they would try and listen after losing by such a landslide last time.

Pythonista · 21/10/2021 12:58

Given the attitude on MN towards Tory voters (of which I am not one), do you honestly think that people are going to engage in a discussion about why they vote that way? Just to be piled on and told they are thick racists?

And I thought the left wing were supposed to be nice...

Pythonista · 21/10/2021 13:00

t's actually the far-left that coined the nickname "Keith" because they decided he wasn't worthy of the name Keir which rightfully belongs to Keir Hardie. I just enjoy taking the piss out of people who aren't very good at their jobs, like Keith.

So if you think someone is crap at their job, you use an "amusing" nickname? With that kind of Socratic argument, perhaps you should stand for office?

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 13:00

they were too far left.

How? Stop acting the victim here and answer the question.

For the first time ever I would have to spoil my ballot. Life long Labour voter who has left the Labour Party. They don’t care about womens rights.

No. Annoy someone else.

Enjoy political obscurity I don’t care.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 13:11

MarshaBradyo It's because you can't. Your arguments are flawed, probably based on misinformation regularly churned out by right wing media.

But I'm not here to annoy you. I've maybe tried to show you up a bit to make a more general and important point that a lot of voters have a very weak understanding of who and what they are voting for.

No it’s because I find your posts sarcastic and hounding so I don’t want to respond to you.

I can offers insight into why someone who voted Blair didn’t this time but why bother.

ilovesooty · 21/10/2021 13:18

This is one of the most depressing threads I've ever read on here.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 13:19

being able to see nuance or appreciate and understand different viewpoints that is the hard part, requiring maturity and self-control

All of which you clearly excel at Grin

Well I'm certainly not deluded enough to earnestly suggest that I can show someone the error of their ways because of my Vastly Superior Knowledge (TM)

I did nothing of the sort. I picked holes in someone's argument and they threw a tantrum and refused to engage further. This is a fairly typical attitude of many Tories who except to call the shots (and not be challenged) but also manage to portray themselves as victims somehow. I haven't assumed 'victimhood' here despite your really quite offensive posts (which I am bringing up because your criticisms of my posting style).

Do you think most voters are well informed on the policies of the main parties?
