Woman driving at protesters

312 replies

ivykaty44 · 17/10/2021 15:43

The woman driving at protestors this week in the news, in a range rover that it turns out, isn’t taxed, hasn’t got a valid MOT & therefore insurance

Should have it impounded as she’s driving it illegally to take her son to school AIBU to think you can’t driving round illegally and then shout at protestors blocking the road - regardless of the rights or wrongs of the protestors or how annoying she may find them

No-one is stopping you

I didn't say there were but plenty of people want to stop others driving.
Dojacatpaws · 20/10/2021 15:40

Well we can't all drive

Glitterybug · 20/10/2021 15:46

Well we can't all drive

And there it is, Finally got to the bottom of it. Dojacat is jealous of people who can drive.

Exactly! There's plenty things that I can't do but I don't resent others doing them.
Dojacatpaws · 20/10/2021 16:06

Ah no, I mean we can't all drive as the roads would be too full. I can drive plenty good thanks

Dojacatpaws · 20/10/2021 16:42

It would be a strange thing to be jealous of people stuck in traffic jams

ivykaty44 · 20/10/2021 16:43

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

40% of car journeys are under 3km, if you took those drivers off the roads, the rest of the 60% would travel far more freely and those in living rurally would benefit from free flowing traffic

My journey to to work is 4 miles and takes me about 15 minutes in the car. Walking or cycling aren't an option, especially in the winter as I have 2 routes to choose from, one a lonely unlit towpath and the other one a busy, winding road that it also unlit. I'm not risking my safety so I don't have to drive.

what has your journey to work got to do with 40% of people driving 3km or less?

Or is it that due to you having to drive you want everyone else to drive and suffer the traffic jams?

Not really sure what your point is?

So you're just a hypocrite then.

Plenty of your like in in. No wonder you feel at home with them.

Glitterybug · 20/10/2021 16:58

So at some point you must have used a car to learn to drive. An Evil, planet killing car. Tut tut.

RavingAnnie · 20/10/2021 17:14

@MurielSpriggs

I really don't think it needs so much analysis! It is undoubtedly against the Highway Code for the driver of a stationary vehicle who knows that a person is in front of that vehicle to deliberately hit the person with the vehicle.
How do you hit someone with a stationary vehicle 🧐
RavingAnnie · 20/10/2021 17:21

@Dojacatpaws

Yes just a harmless game, driving 1.5 tonnes of metal at someone, how would she feel if it was her son or mother
I imagine she'd tell her son or mother to get out of the fucking road and stop sitting in front of cars.
RavingAnnie · 20/10/2021 17:22

@Dojacatpaws

I don't give a shit if she's not taxed either, she shouldn't be trying to maim people, just so she can get her kid to school
She was trying to maim anyone, just a bit of gentle nudging and encouragement to get out of the fucking way!
TSSDNCOP · 20/10/2021 17:31

Oh give over with the hyperbole, she didn't maim them. The protester reacted like a premier league footballer begging for a penalty.

I personally liked the lady in the sharp business suit and heels dragging an obstruction out of the road by the straps of their backpack.

Dojacatpaws · 20/10/2021 17:47

Belle, I can drive very well but I don't, not sure why that makes me a hypocrite?

WhenWillISleepThroughTheNight · 20/10/2021 18:24

It seems that in Britain a lot of our housing stock is pretty old. Yes a lot of it could be more efficient. But as pointed out by pps a lot of them are difficult to do a lot about without losing floorspace. Should we be bulldozing all older homes and replacing them with passive houses? That would be unworkable. Imagine being told your house was going to be bulldozed and you'd have to move elsewhere because the houses built to replace it and its neighbours were bigger so more expensive and fewer could be built on the land.

I genuinely want to see this country become a lot greener. But blocking ambulances? No thanks.

Also agree with the point that with countries such as China polluting a lot more .. while we shouldn't use that as an excuse to do nothing, it's pretty depressing.

ivykaty44 · 20/10/2021 22:40

But as pointed out by pps a lot of them are difficult to do a lot about without losing floorspace.

It’s very easy to do without losing any floor space

KitchenKrisis · 20/10/2021 22:47

I also didn't see any.. I will run you over action.

I saw nudging as well.

Amazing patience really, I think stuck drivers have shown incredible patience with these utter bastards.

"Very easy" is the wrong description. "Possible" is a better word. Still difficult though.

Instead of retrofitted interior cavity walls, for a terraced row you would need to exterior clad the whole row - it would be a council led scheme but they wouldn't necessarily go for the best quote. We had an offer from the council to replace the roof of our semi - they said they would pay 50% of the cost so it would cost us £10k. All but a couple of the other houses on the street went for it, and why wouldn't you - what a saving!

We couldn't afford it though and declined. A year later our roof started to leak so I got some local quotes and paid £4000 for a new roof. Cladding would probably be similar in terms of inefficiency. But they have to go with a company that has the capacity to do such a big job. If the government goes down that road council tax could skyrocket. Then you need to make sure the houses are still able to breathe so the damp in older homes can escape.

The cladding could be filled with renewable materials such as sheep wool - expensive but great for the environment and British farming - but expensive, or cheaper materials such as polystyrene but suitably fire proofed.

You'd lose some outside space as the footprint of the house would swell but in many situations, that wouldn't cause a problem. Costly though.

For our semi the cladding would be a lot more expensive again as 1930s buildings such as aren't simple 4 wall boxes.

So yes, doable but not "very easy"

I wonder if all of the protesters have had their homes fully insulated. Hope so.

Volhhg · 20/10/2021 23:35

The woman should be banned from driving for life. Sorry but if you don't have the sense to not use your car as a weapon to threaten when you're angry you should not be on the road.

ivykaty44 · 21/10/2021 05:56

You’re writing about cost, not ease of application.

Are you in the sector? I'd be interested to hear more. I only draw on what I know, which is that it's not an overnight fix. My husband worked in this precise sector until recently, retrofitting insulation to older houses, exterior and interior. It would take months to do each home.
Dojacatpaws · 21/10/2021 07:54

Kitchinkrisis, drivers are the most impatient road users out there

drpet49 · 21/10/2021 12:17

* It was pure aggression. But probably doesn't count on MN because she's not a middle-aged man and their non-violent protest makes them "twats". *

^This. That woman should be prosecuted.

A few years ago, developers built some eco-houses near where I live and the external walls were insulated with sheeps wool.

A few years down the line, they were infested with moths and had to to have loads of remedial work done.
