Please tell me this is just an evap line?

Been feeling ‘pregnant’ all week, same muscle issues, gas and general exhaustion as my other pregnancy’s. Assumed I was mental as I have the implant and 2 under 2 at home already.

Took a first response tonight just to put my mind at ease and there is a very faint pink line. It’s clearer in person but these are the best pics I can get without natural light!

Please tell me this is just an evap line?

Great news, @JetRocket You must be relieved! But it's awful how bad indents can be (and I think it leads a lot of people say they've had chemical pregnancies when it wasn't a pregnancy at all). I stopped using FRERs early on because they almost always had a faint shadow and they were so expensive. Cheapies have always done the job for me and by the time you get a line on those, you get a decent one on FRER with no doubting it.

It's probably the other way round. I don't believe in 'evaps' but chemical pregnancies are sadly very common.

Best to test after a missed period. Testing so early creates unnecessary stress

Luckytattie · 18/10/2021 12:59

@Viviennemary there is a line it is incredibly faint though so indicating an evap line.
They are a thing.
If you don't like the threads...stop clicking on them Hmm

ReeseWitherfork · 18/10/2021 12:59

@Viviennemary

Id like to see these line eye threads banned. They either give people false hope or a lot of stress if they dont want to be pregnant. In OPs case she will be relieved. So thats good. So all these idiots piling in with I can see a line when there was no line to be seen caused unnecessary angst. If you can't see a line either its too early to test or you are not pregnant. Its not rocket science.
You know OP took her tests to the GP who agreed they looked pregnant? So all those "idiots" seeing a line include her GP by the sounds of it. OP, her GP, and numerous other posters on here could see a line. And she's not pregnant. So it's not quite as simple as you think now, is it?

@JetRocket - really relieved for you! That's great news.

Just because you can't see a line doesn't mean people who can are idiots. The OP's doctor saw a line.
Tailendofsummer · 18/10/2021 13:05

As one of the "idiots" I take offence at that comment VivienneMary - there was a line and I commented what I could see, as asked to by the Op.
I was a regular early tester due to RMCs and saw many completely negative tests and also several with the faint lines the OP's test had - I was pg every time I saw the line.

JetRocket · 18/10/2021 13:31

I was apologetic on the phone, felt silly and overzealous tbh Blush but the GP was very kind and said he wouldn’t have done the bloods had he not agreed the test looked positive. I do think it’s shocking that there are evaps so clear even a medical professional thinks it’s positive Sad how horrible for those TTC.

I had to take a FRER in this case as I had no idea when my period would be due or any idea of my cycle. If I were ever TTC again I’d leave them well alone and only go for normal test post period being due. That being said I will never TTC again so it’s a moot point.

Thanks all for your opinions and support!

Great news for you @JetRocket!

Wish we could all be as soon as Viviennemary though eh? Sure I’d rather be an idiot than a rude idiot though!

If only it were that simple. I had a really long cycle last month out of the blue. I tested with a FRER on day 45 so not too early. Very faint line appeared immediately. A Boots own test the next day was the same. Then completely blank Clearblue tests the day after that. It was really stressful. I wasn’t pregnant but the bloody tests did show a line that was faint and everyone could see it, and the instructions on the box say any line is a positive. Which was a lie. GP says it wasn’t a chemical (I had bloods done).
Luckytattie · 18/10/2021 13:45

I think @Viviennemary needs her eyes tested!

sarahc336 · 18/10/2021 13:47

There clearly were lines 😩

ThirdElephant · 18/10/2021 13:47

@JetRocket

Blood results back and negative !!!!
Hurrah! I'm so relieved for you Smile
Laiste · 18/10/2021 13:54

The thing is - if evap lines are a well known thing, then what is the point in asking how many people can see them?

Faint lines tell you nothing - they could be evap lines as in this case. How does it help knowing how many people other people can see something which means nothing?

I don't mean to be rude to you OP. And if you were my mate i'd have made you a cupper and offered to help :) But it's a genuine Q.

It's only an evap line if it shows up after the time you're supposed to read the test. All sorts of things can cause a false positive test- antihistamines, UTIs, the list goes on and on.

In this case, as the line came up within the window, and had colour, it won't have been an evap line, just a false positive.

SylvanasWindrunner · 18/10/2021 14:02

Some good stuff about evaps here: www.reddit.com/r/TFABLinePorn/comments/cpzc90/what_your_test_isnt_a_note_about_evaps/

I don't think it's an evap but more just the indent line where the dye would gather if positive being visible. Faint grey and faint pink can be hard to determine when the lines are so faint. You can sometimes see the indent lines before you pee on the test, but the wetness of the wee makes them more obvious. And some tests are worse for them than others.

Laiste · 18/10/2021 14:06

@ThirdElephant ah, i understand the difference now.

The point remains though - a faint line means nothing definite.

If an OP can see a really really faint line there is only 2 choices: wait a bit longer and take another test or (if it's a health matter like OP) go to the Docs and ask for a blood test because of the circs.

I just feel that the above should be more of a stock answer on here than loads of ''i can/i can't'' posts. Treated less like just a bit of fun, y'know?

Anyway it doesn't matter - the main thing is you're ok OP :) Flowers

Viviennemary · 18/10/2021 14:14

I agree with Laiste. She put it better than I did.

SunsetSmartmeter · 18/10/2021 14:43

That amount of incorrect tests is shocking OP.

Really pleased you got the news you were hoping for, you can relax a little now (well, as much as a mum of little ones ever gets to relax!) Thanks

JetRocket · 18/10/2021 14:49

From my POV I think women who end up in the FRER ‘faint line’ trap are usually there for a reason, fertility struggles, irregular cycles or health concerns (like me).
So whilst it might seem ‘silly’ to others, like ‘why wouldn’t you just wait till a week after your period is due and take a definitive test?- duh’ that logic probably isn’t applicable.

For the women trapped in it, the FRER ‘faint line’ rabbit hole is a very vulnerable place to be and being able to reach out when you’re feeling your most vulnerable, for support, advice, or just distraction is kinda what MN is all about.

Just because you can't see a line doesn't mean no-one else can 🙄. You must just have a shit phone if you can't see it. How about you stay off these threads until you get an upgrade if they bother you so much. And anyone who has suffered through infertility and has tested a lot or tested early in pregnancy would know like early lines often look like that. My first test lines exactly like the OPs and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. Even her GP confirmed there were lines, but of course we're all wrong and you're right. The OP wouldn't be asking if it was a blank bloody test Confused
Tereseta · 19/10/2021 16:32

Time to get that snip organised 😉 pleased for you OP

TattyDevine · 20/10/2021 18:49

So pleased for you and agree the faint line thing can be somewhere where some hand holding might be needed, which ever side of the "oh fuck is this positive" fence you are on.

Onwards! All the best! X

Hello all

Please can you help? I’ve taken a pregnancy test yesterday at around 7pm and have a faint line. I took 3 more tests this morning and all say not pregnant. I saw a video suggesting the digital tests don’t always pick up the faintest of lines so took the digital test apart and it shows a faint line. I’ve had a bit of bleeding not a lot but a bit now and then and the last time I had sex with my partner was the 10th December what should I do? I’m only young and abit unsure on what to do next.
