I’m going to visit my friend for the weekend soon with my kids.

We have to look after the school gecko for half term, so I asked if we could bring him with us. He’s very small and his tank is only shoe box sized so this seemed quite reasonable to me.

She responded in an extremely abrupt way to say that I couldn’t bring him and would need to find another arrangement. She was particularly irate about the idea I would need to bring live crickets to feed him with. I reassured her that feeding geckos crickets is totally ethical, and that they are in an escape proof container but she was resolute. Tbh I think she was drunk.

I feel really hurt that she wouldn’t allow what seems like quite a small request! If she wanted to bring her gecko to my house I would be totally okay with that. It’s very inconvenient for me too, I think that she just doesn’t value my time or friendship. I’m already having to make arrangements for my dog and chickens when we go to visit so the gecko is just a step too far.

Aibu?

Can i be first to call Reverse?

cloudtree · 14/10/2021 16:46

Grin. I’m assuming this is a piss take or a reverse. You can’t take your bloody gecko to someone’s house!

Clocktopus · 14/10/2021 16:46

YABU, it's her house so it's up to her what gets brought through the door. Not everyone likes reptiles, crickets, etc, a lot of people are frightened off them, and so doesn't want them in her house.

Piggy42 · 14/10/2021 16:46

Reverse or joke

MsPavlichenko · 14/10/2021 16:47

This is a joke surely? You couldn’t be more unreasonable.

BruceAndNosh · 14/10/2021 16:47

Hang on,. I missed the bit about the chickens....
You mean she doesn't want them either?

Toottooot · 14/10/2021 16:47

Nah didn’t happen.

londonrach · 14/10/2021 16:47

Yabu....can't believe you think anything else

Imwearingtrousers · 14/10/2021 16:47

Just take the dog and chickens too, I mean it's only her house after all

Cocopogo · 14/10/2021 16:48

Yes definitely a reverse and no if you don’t want the gecko there then don’t. It wouldn’t bother me though.

MedusasBadHairDay · 14/10/2021 16:48

If she wanted to bring her gecko to my house I would be totally okay with that.

.. has everyone been issued with a gecko except me?

BruceAndNosh · 14/10/2021 16:49

Can't the person who is looking after your unicorn also gecko-sit?

SylvanianFrenemies · 14/10/2021 16:49

Is the gecko named Balonz by any chance?

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/10/2021 16:50

FFS, it's a gecko, not a malarial mosquito. WTF is her problem?Hmm YANBU @IndraOnTheMountain.

Hoppinggreen · 14/10/2021 16:50

We’ve got a Gecko but we don’t take him places.
He wouldn’t like it
And what sort of gecko is it to need such a small enclosure?

IndraOnTheMountain · 14/10/2021 16:51

@SylvanianFrenemies

Is the gecko named Balonz by any chance?
No his name is Leonard (Lenny).

It’s not a reverse I promise!

So tell the school you can't have the gecko for half term and anther kid can look after it.
And why the hell is a gecko being kept in a showbox sized tank - that's cruel they need way more space. I don't believe it for a minute anyway because they need heating and humidity - so its bollocks its in a shoebox sized tank there wouldn't be room for its gear.
Don't know why I'm answering this obvious nonsense actually - I must be bored !

All the other stuff about your 'friend' and the crickets etc - whatever.

Needaholiday101 · 14/10/2021 16:52

We have had geckos for years. They don't need feeding daily, for a weekend you will be fine to leave him home. The vivarium sounds too small though if only shoe box size, they like to climb up so thay would be very shallow for him.

TravellingSpoon · 14/10/2021 16:53

A tank the size of a shoebox sounds cruel.

girafferafferaffe · 14/10/2021 16:53

Nooooo stop it hahahha

MedusasBadHairDay · 14/10/2021 16:53

One of my school friends had a gecko when we were kids, one night while I was there on a sleepover the crickets escaped - that was a tense night, apparently she was still finding them weeks later.

Bagelsandbrie · 14/10/2021 16:54

Feel sorry for the gecko being in such a small tank to be honest!

But no, you can’t just take your gecko along with you like a spare child.

TravellingSpoon · 14/10/2021 16:54

We have a gecko and he has a 2.5m vivarium (for comparisson)

Yogawankonobi · 14/10/2021 16:55

Are you drunk?

CoastalWave · 14/10/2021 16:55

Is this a joke?
