To think this kitchen is lovely and not too girlie?

We are thinking about getting our kitchen done and looking for some inspiration. I've found one that I absolutely love, but my husband thinks it's minging and too 'girlie' for a man to live in.

AIBU to think this is gorgeous and not too feminine?

It’s fine, not really to my taste but nothing offensive about it.
Whatever his reasons are for not liking it, it’s irrelevant really. He doesn’t like it 🤷🏻‍♀️. Better to find something you both like.

@SalsaLove posted!!

Life the username. I taught salsa and Argentine tango for over 15 years!

Miss it dreadfully.

elbea · 13/10/2021 21:22

Are people still putting high gloss kitchens in their homes?

Reusablebags · 13/10/2021 21:25

I don’t think it looks “girlie”. I also don’t think it looks lovely. If it’s the colours and worktops you like I think you could improve it by making sure the floor and worktop either match or compliment each other as they are just are clashing woods. it doesn’t look very neat or sharp as the dryer, washing machine and fridge are not integrated. It would be much more “finished” if they were. Is it weird to have the dryer right next to the hob? It feels like it is!

XingMing · 13/10/2021 21:25

DH hates pink but is very happy with loud coral and orange in the bathroom. Just not wishy-washy is the way to go.

RussianSpy101 · 13/10/2021 21:26

I personally don’t think it’s nice at all, could you find some compromise?

upaladderagain · 13/10/2021 21:27

My kitchen is painted pink, as chosen by DJ, and we both love it. However, in your picture the pink clashes with the yellowy tinge to the cupboards and the golden wood.
So I think a different colour would work better.

Classica · 13/10/2021 21:28

The island looks shoe-horned into the room and makes it look a bit cramped. But islands seem to be very much the thing!

RosesAndHellebores · 13/10/2021 21:31

I love pink. I had a pink kitchen before I met dh have pink downlighters even now - except when I programme them to turquoise, green, or gold but that kitchen is somehow fussy and not right. FWIW we have off white units and an oak topped breakfast bar. There's just something really fussy that I can't put my finger on.

Hawkins001 · 13/10/2021 21:31

its very nice op, to me reminds me of swinging sixties, as long as its functional then it can be bright purple and pink ect,

ChorizoJacketPotato · 13/10/2021 21:31

It’s not girlie but it reminds me of a caravan.

toastofthetown · 13/10/2021 21:33

I don’t think all the sarky comments about turning him gay or that his penis won’t fall off useful. He doesn’t like the kitchen. His reason doesn’t matter too much; often trying to describe exactly why some thing doesn’t meet your taste isn’t easy so people fall back to ‘too girly’ ‘tacky’ etc.

For what it’s worth I think the wall colour is hideous and wouldn’t have it anywhere I was going to spend any time (and pink is my favourite colour).

Lavanderrose · 13/10/2021 21:34

Pink doesn’t have to look girly at all, but I’m not that keen on your inspo photo…

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 13/10/2021 21:38

Replace the hard wear with black and more of a beige/pink and it would be perfect!

Funnylittlefloozie · 13/10/2021 21:39

Is that Katie Price's kitchen?

Fraine · 13/10/2021 21:40

I don”t like that pink personally, I can see what DH means. Think you need to agree on a scheme you would both like. Who does the bulk of the cooking?

Superstar22 · 13/10/2021 21:42

How about dark blue cabinets with a pinkish wall?

SunShinesBrightly · 13/10/2021 21:45

@proudwomansexmatters

What's girly about white units and an oak top?!
Nothing. Pink walls might be considered more feminine though. My 18 year old DD would love it. Me, not so much.
Dojacatpaws · 13/10/2021 21:48

I guess your dh doesn't know where the word 'minging' comes from then

ColdColdWinter · 13/10/2021 21:51

Why ask us? If your own husband doesn't get to veto it, you're hardly going to listen to a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Yes, it's girlie.

It's also a bit 'common' imo.

And it looks very dark for a place people are going to be chopping with sharp knives in.

0nlyMe · 13/10/2021 21:51

My bedroom walls are pink. A bit TOO pink but I got so tired of the decorating that I just left it. DH’s manhood is still intact luckily as that’s the only useful part of him Grin
My kitchen has some dark cerise walls with bright Moroccan style kitchen wallpaper under the cabinets (couldn’t afford the tiles) and it’s actually the room that people comment on the most. Have had 3 handymen/boiler ppl take photos to show their wives. So my point is it depends on the shade….am not keen on your inspo picture OP but you didn’t say if he hated the whole look or just the paint, in which case it can be changed. A sage green perhaps?

CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther · 13/10/2021 21:54

What’s a manly kitchen then? An open fire and a spit roast like a caveman might have had for cooking?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2021 21:54

You both need to like it.

We have a pink bedroom but we both like it.

ASeagullShatInMyEye · 13/10/2021 21:55

I don't know about "girly" - but how are all these kitchens so bloody tidy?

Where are the piles of paperwork and things to deal with "immediately", and book bags and random stuff that get dumped on the island because there's nowhere else obvious to put them?

How do people manage to live like this? They all look pretty good to me, just because you can actually see the surfaces.

DoYouLikeOwls · 13/10/2021 21:55

@MrsTerryPratchett

Oh and if he uses 'girlie' as an insult, I'd think twice about him.
FFS. Get a grip.
