To think this kitchen is lovely and not too girlie?

We are thinking about getting our kitchen done and looking for some inspiration. I've found one that I absolutely love, but my husband thinks it's minging and too 'girlie' for a man to live in.

AIBU to think this is gorgeous and not too feminine?

What do people mean when they say they “don’t like to see appliances”?

We had a new kitchen fitted when we moved into our new house in May of this year - our appliances were all working fine so we brought them with us, rather than send them to landfill so we could get new ones. This means you can see our washing machine and dishwasher but i don’t understand why that’s considered such a bad thing?

PumpkinsandTea · 13/10/2021 21:06

@FatBettyintheCoop

DH loves our pink and grey kitchen and he’s a rufty tufty Glaswegian. Grin
Love the wall tiles! That will look fab when it's done 😍
NotSoNewAndShiny · 13/10/2021 21:06

The second picture looks a bit like a blown-up doll's house/kitchen to me. Perhaps that's what he means.

I like pink and probably won't mind it on a kitchen wall but don't quite like this look. Not sure what it is.

Best to find a colour you both agree on.

@SalsaLove

Like this?
Why are your upper units totally different to your lower ones? That would drive me mad!
PumpkinsandTea · 13/10/2021 21:08

I hate being able to see appliances. It looks a mess.

This is quite possibly the most pretentious thing I've ever read!!!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

ISeeTheLight · 13/10/2021 21:09

I hate it but saying it's "too girly" is ridiculous.

nosyupnorth · 13/10/2021 21:09

The pink under the cabinets doesn't seem to match the pink on the walls, or at least the lighting under the cabinets is throwing off the shade of it.

Honestly I don't like the room and I do think it's overly girlie - there's nothing wrong with pink or being feminine but pink walls and pink lights and pink flowers in a pink vase plus rose gold (pink!) handles on all the cabinets is too much and reminds me of a barbie dollhouse or something a six year old girl would pick.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 13/10/2021 21:11

I does waver on the girly side tbh. Couldn't you have more neutral colours on the walls?

LastToBePicked · 13/10/2021 21:11

It’s too girlie.

NCForNosies · 13/10/2021 21:12

It's not girly! If it's just the pink paint thought, it's a very easy adjustment.

Flowiththego · 13/10/2021 21:12

It depends on what you think of pink. We had a kitchen with pink walls, white units and a granite worktop. It was lovely. DH didn't love it but he tolerated it. But yes, the pink walls do suggest feminine to me.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/10/2021 21:13

I don't like it at all-but because I think a bit naff and OTT-

not because I think it is girlie.

And not to derail but why on earth does does "girlie" have to be a negative??

Maskless · 13/10/2021 21:14

Does he think it will turn him gay?

Thatsplentyjack · 13/10/2021 21:15

I like the colour but I just wouldn't have pink on any of my walls. I'm not sure why though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/10/2021 21:16

Today 21:03 Stapledyet

The pink makes it look like an office kitchen for some reason. But the girliness isn't a factor.“

Exactly this. Because it’s a very bland shade of pink. If you’re going pink, for goodness’ sake go pink! Grin

Honeyroar · 13/10/2021 21:17

@TwinsandTrifle

This looks like the adult size version of the toddler kitchen we are sprucing up for DDs Christmas present. Same colour scheme. Same wood look. Appliances all on show. Rose gold accents.

I don't think it looks girlie at all, I think it looks more like a full size play kitchen

Yes that’s exactly what I thought!

I like the Glaswegian pink kitchen though. It’s a bolder pink.

MrzClaus · 13/10/2021 21:18

I mean, it is fairly feminine looking - lots of pale soft colours, rose gold (it looks on the photo) accessories and pink walls. I'm not a fan of the kitchen pictured in general!

I do think he can object on any grounds he wants, you both have to live with it! Doesn't matter if the word he used to describe it was "girlie" if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. You'll just have to find a compromise!

Justgorgeous · 13/10/2021 21:18

It looks a total mess, nothing to do with being girlie

mafted · 13/10/2021 21:19

It's not what I was expecting when I read girlie although I don't think the shade of pink in that kitchen goes at all.

ejhhhhh · 13/10/2021 21:19

Maybe he just doesn't like it, trying to convince him his reasons are wrong probably isn't going to work.

But his reasoning is a terrible reason. Where did you find your OH? 1972?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/10/2021 21:19

It’s a nice kitchen! There’s a tiny bit of pink, is that what he objects to? If so, a compromise might be to have a different colour where the pink is.

But it silly to call something girlie. Girlie isn’t a thing.

BananaPie · 13/10/2021 21:20

Not to my taste, but not particularly “girly” either. What are the things you like about it? Is it the pink? The style of cabinet? The lights? Maybe work that out then agree on where to take the inspo?

LaikO · 13/10/2021 21:20

It's not "girlie", just hideous. 😳

SickAndTiredAgain · 13/10/2021 21:20

He’s being ridiculous to say it’s “too girlie for a man to live in”.
But getting a new kitchen is expensive, and it’s unreasonable for either of you to expect the other to go with something they don’t like.

Nocutenamesleft · 13/10/2021 21:22

Oh no

I really really dislike it. But I can’t fathom as to why. It’s really strange. I love the tops etc. But something about it just gives me the ‘ick’. How weird

I really like the one
