To think this kitchen is lovely and not too girlie?

We are thinking about getting our kitchen done and looking for some inspiration. I've found one that I absolutely love, but my husband thinks it's minging and too 'girlie' for a man to live in.

AIBU to think this is gorgeous and not too feminine?

Units and wood are nice. Not keen on the pink walls and rose gold lights, bit tepid.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 13/10/2021 20:43

I want this kitchen!

@FatBettyintheCoop

DH loves our pink and grey kitchen and he’s a rufty tufty Glaswegian. Grin
Very stylish 😍

OP that kitchen is a real mish mash and very bitty. I hate being able to see appliances. It looks a mess. The pink walls don’t go. It’s a strange colour for a kitchen.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/10/2021 20:44

We've just painted our sitting room Middleton Pink which is a lighter pink than those walls. Looking at Instagram lots of pink accessories make it girly, but touches of green or teal or masculine styling make it feel fresh and clean and neutral. It's a really calming colour, DH likes working in there. But as DS (8) said 'it's a good thing we're not the kind of family who think pink is just for girls'.

Me too! It's beautiful x

Loving people here trying to pretend pink isn’t a feminine colour.

It’s his house too OP, if he doesn’t like it, find a compromise.

ModerateOven · 13/10/2021 20:47

I think it's lovely, but the oak tops spoil it. My kitchen is lilac with cream sparkly worktops. My husband manages to chop onions and peppers without his tackle dropping off.

It wasn't always. Pink used to be considered a passionate color in which to dress boys.
RJnomore1 · 13/10/2021 20:48

I don’t think it’s girly but I do think it’s very messy and untidy looking. I really dislike it for that reason.

HowardNoir · 13/10/2021 20:48

I can safely say my 6'5 scary viking husband's penis is still attached after I painted our kitchen pink and reupholstered our headboard with pink velvet. Has your husband always struggled with his fragile masculinity?

SerenTarot · 13/10/2021 20:52

it just looks bog standard average to me. White units, a bit of pink paint. Sorry OP but I just don't see what's 'lovely' about it.

Cwenthryth · 13/10/2021 20:54

I’m of the view that we can all share all colours regardless of what sex we are, and that believing “pink is girly” is horribly regressive and an attitude that belongs in the past along with all other sexist stereotypes.

No pretending anything Grin

puddlebubble · 13/10/2021 20:55

But is it the pink you like, or the units, the countertops, the details? The photos are quite depressing, it looks messy and very very dark with a beige splash back, grey countertop and mismatched flooring and wood countertop in the centre and appliances everywhere and mismatched lighting. He might be focusing on the colour but I can see why he may not like it. I think you could get much better than this and then sell the pink wall to him.

CathyorClaire · 13/10/2021 20:56

'Too girlie' sounds like a get-out-of-doing-anything-in-it clause to me.

It's not a kitchen I'd die on a hill for but if you both basically agree on white and wood it shouldn't be too hard to find an acceptable compromise.

TwinsandTrifle · 13/10/2021 20:56

This looks like the adult size version of the toddler kitchen we are sprucing up for DDs Christmas present. Same colour scheme. Same wood look. Appliances all on show. Rose gold accents.

I don't think it looks girlie at all, I think it looks more like a full size play kitchen

ANameChangeAgain · 13/10/2021 20:56

I like it, but then I love to see the 50s vintage icecream colours. I wouldn't just do the pink, I would use the baby blues and mint green too if I were brave enough.

Porcupineintherough · 13/10/2021 20:56

I dislike pale pink so I wouldnt live with it no matter how much my husband wanted to. Colour schemes are somrthing you have to agree on.

RunningFromInsanity · 13/10/2021 20:58

It’s pink and it’s awful

donquixotedelamancha · 13/10/2021 20:58

Very nice but it's the girliest kitchen I've ever seen.

Cailinrua1979 · 13/10/2021 20:58

@Miraloma

As in he's worried his penis will fall off if he goes into it?
😂😂😂😂

My husband and son both look great in pink shirts and jumpers. The pink kitchen though? No, just bland. Maybe it’s the shade of pink? Fuscia would be better. Still don’t like the rose gold lights though, whatever colour the walls.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/10/2021 21:01

Maybe a duskier pink with pale grey and dark grey cabinets? That particular shade looks more suited to a nursery or little girl's bedroom.

We're looking at kitchens at the moment and keep encountering a dusky pink cabinet, I think Magnet call it cashmere. It pairs well with greys, whites, wood and copper/rose gold.

Of course but that shade of pink and other elements look like a really stereotyped image of a play kitchen for little girls.

He's entitled not to like that.

Stapledyet · 13/10/2021 21:03

The pink makes it look like an office kitchen for some reason. But the girliness isn't a factor.

PumpkinsandTea · 13/10/2021 21:03

Looks a bit dated but nothing wrong with it?
