Out a walk with DS sleeping the pram this morning and I get a call...it’s the Morrison’s delivery driver. He’s outside and there’s no answer at the door. Well, that’s because I’m not in and my delivery is scheduled for 12-1pm. He’s called at 10.35am.
There’s me then having to rush home (luckily we had just set out so we were only 5 mins away) but I live in a flat and had to then get sleeping DS out of the pram and into the house etc. Just a faff really.

VERY grumpy delivery man tells me I should be in if I’m expecting a delivery as he “doesn’t have all day” 🙄

I’ve had them being late before - these things happen but almost 1.5h early?!

I'd have told him to come back between 12 and 1.
How utterly ridiculous

TurnUpTurnip · 11/10/2021 11:42

Tesco’s are awful for this, shop due between 10-11 was on school run but back by 9.15 told by neighbour a Tesco’s driver was knocking at my door so I missed the shop as they didn’t even bother to call me, I called Tesco’s to complain but they basically called me a liar and said the driver said he came at the right time and I wasn’t in 🤦🏻

Shoxfordian · 11/10/2021 11:43

Yanbu
Should have told him to come back later and taken your time about getting home

They will probably just cancel the order if you do that though, they cancelled mine and told me they won’t bring it back as it’s already been refunded. So only do that if you don’t mind them cancelling
Skyeheather · 11/10/2021 11:48

I would have done as you did, rushed home and taken the delivery. I would now be emailing/phoning Customer Services to complain. For some reason your delivery was loaded onto the van early and the driver instructed to deliver. It's not the driver's fault, it's something gone wrong at the store. The driver's only job is to deliver as instructed.

FinallySomeNormality · 11/10/2021 11:52

This happens every time for us too with our Tesco shop. Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased to get it delivered at all... but I pick a suitable time slot for a reason! More often than not, I get repeated calls to say they're at my door hours early!

bruffin · 11/10/2021 11:52

I have a reserve on Saturday morning with Ocado. It was 7-8 but they were getting earlier and earlier than 7 ended up to moving it to 9-10 so i didnt have to get up at 6 for them.

TurnUpTurnip · 11/10/2021 11:54

Though mind you they come late as well I had one 4 hours later than the time I ordered for. I actually was surprised it came at all.

EatYourVegetables · 11/10/2021 11:57

Never had this problem with Asda.

Ariela · 11/10/2021 11:57

This is why I never do online food shopping. That and substitutions!

Bigoldhag · 11/10/2021 12:00

God they are mad, you are deffo not unreasonable.

Had this with SSE last year - booked a 12-4 slot for a meter fitting, had an eye appt at 9.30. I’d have been home by 10.45. Phone call received at 10:10 wondering where I am, and got really shirty with me and sat outside my house and barely let me get out of the car before he was on the doorstep.

Lucky with Tesco the delivery drivers usually phone ahead if they are early round here - and if I say no because I am not home, don’t object.

Northofsomewhere · 11/10/2021 12:01

I work for a supermarket and have done the occasional delivery shop when needed (normally do click and collect) and have not had this issue with Asda. I even had a quick chat with one of the delivery drivers and they can receive consequences for turning up outside the delivery slot (presumably unless its late and outside their control like an accident or breakdown). I was the last but one delivery in this case and the other delivery booked a slot an hour after mine (was late evening) and they basically had to go and find somewhere to wait until they could deliver in the slot time. It might be worth trying Asda if one's available. They certainly shouldn't be turning up so early, I think most people would be ok with half an hour early at a push but 1.5 hours early is ridiculous.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 11/10/2021 12:02

I actually stopped using Tesco a while back because they really annoyed me. I had a delivery scheduled - I was 4 weeks post partum, I don’t drive and our nearest supermarket is 20 mins away by bus. DH was abroad with work. They emailed me an hour after my delivery slot to say that they’d changed my delivery to a “click & collect” at a store a 1h drive away 🙄 phoned CS to complain and was very cheekily told to just collect it instead. Had to go and do a shop at the local convenience store which cost a fortune - then the Tesco shop turned up at my door at 7am the following morning 🙄

I did ask the driver today if he could return in the delivery slot and was told it would just be refunded. This was the only slot I could get this week, DH is abroad again and I needed shopping so didn’t have much choiceZ

Same here. They often arrive at 6.15am but luckily I am up. I dread to think what time they arrive if you book the 6am slot!
monkeysox · 11/10/2021 12:04

If I'm home and not busy I don't mind if a bit early but Sainsbury's always ring and ask if ok.
1.5 hours early and that being the only option isn't acceptable.
I know there are some people who won't accept ten mins before slot (prob just being awkward) the drivers do cover a huge area so ten mins can make a big difference to their day if you can help them out

@Ariela I’d much prefer not to but it’s usually far more convenient in our situation when my DH is away with work. It’s either that or having to cart the baby on the bus etc then try and get everything up into the house.

That's so annoying!

I alternate online food shops from Asda and Ocado.
Asda have pretty much always been in the booked slot, late a couple of times.
Ocado are almost always early but do phone me first to check that's ok.

Yutes · 11/10/2021 12:05

I actually am having massive problems with Morrisons delivery at the moment. They seem to think that delivering 3-4 hours after the slot I’ve booked is ok.
I know they may be short on drivers but why accept so many orders if they can’t fulfil. I’ve been relying on my delivery turning up to make dinner or whatever.
I know it’s first world problems but still

LastStarfighter · 11/10/2021 12:07

I was chatting to our delivery driver on out this earlier in the week. All very good natured, and he admitted that he prefers to just get all the deliveries done as quickly as he can, and then he will knock off. Not sure how that works with him having to clock out though?

Justforphoto · 11/10/2021 12:07

I had a 10-11am slot booked with Ocado and they were on my doorstep at 9.10 when I got back from the school run. Wouldn't care but the driver made a rude comment about assuming I was still in bed. I don't use Ocado anymore.

SpindleWhirl · 11/10/2021 12:10

Asda deliveries are pretty good for the timings and texting ahead if they're going to be late. They just have bonkers substitutions.

Tesco, well I'll never go back to them. Too many missed deliveries, failed deliveries, alcohol and chocolates missing but charged for (just before Xmas), over-stretched customer services ... The shop I did for my DD's 21st just didn't turn up, two days in a row.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 11/10/2021 12:12

@monkeysox Yeah I absolutely don’t mind 10/15 mins - I always make sure I’m home half an hour before the slot if I can just incase they’re a bit early. But today was a bit of a pain!

EvilRingahBitch · 11/10/2021 12:13

Ocado ring and say "I'm in your area is it OK if I turn up early?" but are happy to take "sorry but that's not possible" for an answer.

NoVegPlease · 11/10/2021 12:14

@EatYourVegetables

Never had this problem with Asda.
I've been using Asda weekly for three years, only early once and late three times. Not bad at all
IcedCoffeeAlways · 11/10/2021 12:15

@EvilRingahBitch Ocado don’t deliver in my area unfortunately. Asda do but they pull from a very small store and the number of substitutions and missing items is always unreal so I stopped using them a long time ago. Morrison’s and tescos are our only options unfortunately!
