Out a walk with DS sleeping the pram this morning and I get a call...it’s the Morrison’s delivery driver. He’s outside and there’s no answer at the door. Well, that’s because I’m not in and my delivery is scheduled for 12-1pm. He’s called at 10.35am.
There’s me then having to rush home (luckily we had just set out so we were only 5 mins away) but I live in a flat and had to then get sleeping DS out of the pram and into the house etc. Just a faff really.

VERY grumpy delivery man tells me I should be in if I’m expecting a delivery as he “doesn’t have all day” 🙄

I’ve had them being late before - these things happen but almost 1.5h early?!

I had this for several months with Morrisons. I am disabled by chronic pain, so can move but slowly and I'd be in absolute agony if I tried bringing an entire load in. We'd often have calls to ask if it's ok to deliver say 30 minutes early, and we'd always agree to be helpful whenever we could. All of a sudden they started just showing up 60 to 90 minutes early, it was getting more ridiculous by the week.

I had to call my husband back from errands a couple of times, as he thought there was plenty of time to nip out and back before it was due. Eventually we complained and only happened once or twice after that. Recently it's been within the allocated time.

jakkijax · 12/10/2021 19:33

Complete divvy of a driver. You entered into a contract with the company and paid for it. So that's what you expect. Not for them to rock up when they fancy.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 12/10/2021 20:14

@BornAgainCountryBumpkin1

Supermarket manager here. Different company but same rules should apply. Have to call to say if they will be early or late. Courtesy but also they can then replan routes etc. Very rude of him also & I would be livid if I was his manager. Bad attitude make sure you complain. Would of asked him to come back at the allotted time.
@BornAgainCountryBumpkin1 I’m a retail manager too (although not a supermarket) and I certainly wouldn’t tolerate any of my staff speaking to a customer the way he did. Have complained but no response as yet. I did ask him to return within the time slot and was told it would be taken back and refunded. Wasn’t in a position to be able to get groceries elsewhere and have a toddler to feed so would have been causing even more problems for myself by not going how to accept it unfortunately!

I hope you rang and complained about the driver? How rude!

Fleshmechanic · 12/10/2021 20:18

I would have told him I'm obviously not home and if he said he couldn't come for the actual slot I'd have immediately called the company and discussed with them what was happening. The driver works for them so they would need to rectify what was going on. Just as he can't wait all day, you can't wait in all day for a delivery that has a time slot. What a cheeky prick.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 12/10/2021 20:19

@Trinity69

I am a delivery driver for a supermarket and often find myself in the position to deliver early. If the customer isn't in, I wait. It's not their fault I'm running ahead of time. 9 times out of 10 they're in and happy to receive divery early but if not that's my bad and I wait.
@Trinity69 Completely understandable being a bit early - I always accept it if I’m in and usually it’s no issue. But 1.5h hours early and then being pissed at me for it was too far 🤣

Just know I will get slammed for this, but pre pandemic we shopped
at a mix of lidal Sainsbury's and tesco ,none of which delver in our
remote area .
But Waitrose do
We buy a lot less and try to shop their offers and stick to basic stuff, because its expensive but we aren't holidaying or eating out at all so its a fortnightly treat .The slots are hard to get but its fantastic if they are running even 5 mins early the drivers phone and politely ask if its ok
All the staff are so helpful and kind ,In lockdown whilst also being sheltered the drivers where a real life line .
My SIL is very judgmental re waitrose shopping but ,buys loads of new clothes goes on holiday and drinks like a fish we don't

334bu · 12/10/2021 20:45

Morrison's have been very reliable..Only once late and driver phoned ahead to warn me and apologise

twinmum2007 · 12/10/2021 21:00

Sainsbury's always ring & ask if it's ok to be early & are fine if I say it's not.

Blendabrethin · 12/10/2021 21:20

Yanbu. Tesco do this all the damn time. Twice I've avtually turned the deiver away when they are early, once when I was working from home but in a meeting that I couldn"t leave and once when I opened the door to do the nursery run and there was the driver! They always get moody and shitty about it but it's not my damn problem. If I am paying for a specific delivery alot then they need to deliver at that time!

notanothertakeaway · 12/10/2021 21:28

We've used sainsburys and tesco. Very occasionally they call to ask if convenient to deliver early, but never a problem if we say No. Mostly, they deliver at the allocated time

whynotwhatknot · 12/10/2021 22:27

The problem with saying they have no idea what time your slot is -why do some ring and ask if they can come early and some dont?

KilledByWitches · 12/10/2021 23:00
@TheChip

Ocado brought my shopping in bags but wouldn't take them back straight away. He said if I give them back next time I will get money back. Tbh I'd rather he'd just taken them then.
I think you've just met a bad driver there, mine have never refused to take bags back be it the ones I've hoarded for months or the ones my shopping has just been delivered in.

Fluffmum · 13/10/2021 00:56

Asdas are always fine. So are Sainsbury’s.

RachaelN · 13/10/2021 04:16

I've had this happen with morrisons before. I was 20 miles away working, so couldn't rush back. I insisted they come within the correct time slot and sent an email straight to customer services after they rang so I had proof of time. My SIL has had shops cancelled due to this, so I covered my back with the email.

Angrywife · 13/10/2021 04:51

@TurnUpTurnip

Tesco’s are awful for this, shop due between 10-11 was on school run but back by 9.15 told by neighbour a Tesco’s driver was knocking at my door so I missed the shop as they didn’t even bother to call me, I called Tesco’s to complain but they basically called me a liar and said the driver said he came at the right time and I wasn’t in 🤦🏻
Wow that's not on! I've had the complete opposite with Tescos and find they can't do enough to help. If they're going to be early, the driver will always call to check if its ok, I've even had that if they're just 15mins early.
Whatnow321 · 13/10/2021 07:58

I use to have a regular 12-1pm slot with Tesco and it was early every week. It was their lost slot before they returned to store and we live a fair way from the store the delivery comes from.

They would always turn up anytime from 11am. Having said that they were always good if they knocked and I didn’t answer (I was often on work calls) they’d just wait outside until said slot or I could pop down and always apologised for being early

The only one time I had an issue was when they turned up 3hrs early and we’re really rude. It really depends on the driver’s attitude

VerbenaGirl · 13/10/2021 08:03

How odd. We’ve had deliveries pretty much weekly for as long as they have been doing them (mix of Tesco, Sainsburys, Ocado and Waitrose) and only had this a handful of times and they have always called to check first and apologised again when they have arrived. Definitely worth mentioning to Customer Service.

MrsR2be · 13/10/2021 14:08

@EatYourVegetables

Never had this problem with Asda.
Asda turned up an hour early, I was out and he just dumped my shopping on my doorstep but forgot my frozen food. So the driver had to comeback anyway with it. I saw him driving away as I came round the corner
user1490954378 · 13/10/2021 14:33

You should have told him when the slot was booked for, and the fact that you've paid for it! Tesco are terrible for doing this though. I work from home and I'm dealing with clients and often in meetings with my suppliers. I always schedule my work for mornings, so book the tesco delivery for when I know I'll be done and dusted with work calls, but the delivery drivers always seem to turn up early, so I'm having to juggle work calls with bringing the shopping in. Seriously thinking of trying a different supermarket delivery because it is so disruptive and the drivers never listen when I explain the issue.

WitchDancer · 13/10/2021 16:29

We use Morrisons and always have a Friday slot around 4pm. I have been very impressed, particularly as I am disabled and it means I can order what I want rather than relying on DH to do a full supermarket shop.

One day I happened to be on an errand so DH had left his car on the road so I could get on the drive when I got back, which meant it looked like no one was in at a casual glance. I arrived just as the delivery driver was unloading and he had a bit of a grumble saying I was cutting it fine on getting my order. I gently pointed out that DH and DS's were in and lurking by the door ready for him.... he went rather red and was apologising all the way through unloading bless him Grin

I must say the delivery drivers on the whole are really good sorts, most helpful and with a sense of humour. Every time we have a problem with any substitution or on a rare occasion that something has split open they've been really good about dealing with it quickly and efficiently.

There was only once when we didn't get part of the delivery, but customer services were very good about refunding it.

Daisypp · 13/10/2021 16:40

I agree Ocado is the most reliable time slot. I say that I will take earlier delivery if they text first. This rarely happens and works well. I don't know haw vans manage to stick to time slots in central London with blocked roads and spectacular traffic jams. I'm generally impressed

MintyGreenDream · 13/10/2021 16:41

Tesco did this to us on Sunday.Was booked bet 5-6 rocked up at 4.30 two mins after I arrived home from somewhere.

MintyGreenDream · 13/10/2021 16:43

Actually my mistake it was Asda

SunshineCake1 · 13/10/2021 16:47

@KilledByWitches he wasn't a bad driver. He had me down as a new customer. I told him it's been years since we used them. It's not a big deal and we'll give them back or use them but it's not fair to malign him when he was perfectly pleasant.
