Out a walk with DS sleeping the pram this morning and I get a call...it’s the Morrison’s delivery driver. He’s outside and there’s no answer at the door. Well, that’s because I’m not in and my delivery is scheduled for 12-1pm. He’s called at 10.35am.
There’s me then having to rush home (luckily we had just set out so we were only 5 mins away) but I live in a flat and had to then get sleeping DS out of the pram and into the house etc. Just a faff really.

VERY grumpy delivery man tells me I should be in if I’m expecting a delivery as he “doesn’t have all day” 🙄

I’ve had them being late before - these things happen but almost 1.5h early?!

Ocado came after midnight once for a 9-10 pm slot, and once called me 3 hours before my slot to ask if I was in (I wasn't) he explained when he did deliver (in the booked slot) that he had a delivery 4 doors down and thought he would check - I thought this was fair enough

Sainsbury’s always ring and it’s nice to agree for them to come early if you’re in as it might mean they finish a bit earlier.

“With all due respect Mr Delivery Driver, I paid extra to have my delivery arrive at a time convenient for me. I’ll see you between 12 and 1 thank you”

Only once have I had a difficulty with a delivery - after the appointed hour I got a text saying due to unforeseen circumstances I would not get the delivery until the next day.
But as I get a delivery most weeks and have done so for years and years, I have to say about 75% of the time it arrives within the first 15 minutes, and if there is an issue I get a call. A few times I've been called an hour or so before specified time asking if I would like the delivery early.
I generally use Tesco but have had Sainsbury's, Ocado and Waitrose deliver.
On a couple occasions there had been a mistake (getting a bag that wasn't mine, or missing all the fresh veg) and customer service has done everything to get the order correct, usually by sending the driver back. And at least once I have misjudged my schedule and realised I would not be back to receive a delivery and they have also accommodated me.
If I were you I'd complain and take it higher if you get no satisfaction.

I had to get very shirty with Ocado when their drivers were turning up 2 hours early. I have a smart pass so I don’t book a late slot for the price. I book it because I don’t get home til then.
I understand they may come up to an hour early if they call first and ask. But they were turning up earlier and earlier and either ringing as they knocked or simply started unloading when they saw a light on. One time I got home and found the shopping on the doorstep in the rain an hour before my slot (ds had been in the shower and didn’t even hear them knock) and another I got home to find the driver piling it on the doorstep and I couldn’t actually reach the front door.
I had to send strongly worded emails more than once to say that just because someone is at home doesn’t make it ok to come early without calling and not to leave it outside.

Ds is neuro diverse and was having panic attacks when they rocked up early. It was getting so bad I even left work early one evening and phoned ds to say I would definitely be home even if they came an hour early. 15 mins later he was having a meltdown which I had to deal with while driving and still 45 mins away as they had just turned up and had started unloading without calling or knocking first.

I told him to say come back in an hour (or during the booked slot even) but he was too scared and they were already putting it on the step. And this was after I had already asked them not to come early and been told they’d only come up to an hour early after phoning to check…

So I had to spell out exactly why they can’t just assume it’s ok to come early and that someone being home doesn’t mean it’s ok to assume they can deliver two hours early. The CS was more than apologetic and said they had spoken to the managers and there is now a note on my orders saying do not deliver early.
The drivers do sometimes query that when they deliver and will sometimes still ring to ask but DS says no if I won’t be home. Last weeks driver did comment that he was delivering to a neighbour 2 hours before and it would be good if I could book the same time slot as the neighbours. I said unfortunately I was still at work two hours ago so that wouldn’t work for me… Hmm

I love my tesco drivers. I have a 4-5 slot as I don't get back from the school run till 315 so there's a chance I'd be out in the earlier slot. Anyway the drivers often call and ask if I'm in early or they can come back nearer 5 but they also know I'm often waiting for something to use with that nights dinner so earlier is better.

When I have been out one guy has unloaded for me into my porch (inner door locked) and I've arrived back just as he's leaving

They're good crack and one is hot too so no complaints from me

I've used Tesco for years for weekly deliveries and rarely have any problems. They always turn up bang on time and all the drivers are pleasant. The food comes from the Hexham store so they have a bigger range than my local one too.

Notenoughchocolateomg · 14/10/2021 23:31

I've used tesco for years and they've always been great. If they want to come early they phone and ask, 1 time recently he just arrived earlier but it wasn't a big issue that day.

PeachyPeachTrees · 19/10/2021 14:43

The whole point of a 1 hour time slot is so you don't have to be in all day!
I'd be annoyed too, especially as they didn't call to check and he was grumpy about you being out.

Cheeseplantboots · 19/10/2021 15:06

We can only ever get late slots with Tesco and it’s usually 10-11pm but they always turn up early. This week it was 8.30pm!
