Out a walk with DS sleeping the pram this morning and I get a call...it’s the Morrison’s delivery driver. He’s outside and there’s no answer at the door. Well, that’s because I’m not in and my delivery is scheduled for 12-1pm. He’s called at 10.35am.
There’s me then having to rush home (luckily we had just set out so we were only 5 mins away) but I live in a flat and had to then get sleeping DS out of the pram and into the house etc. Just a faff really.

VERY grumpy delivery man tells me I should be in if I’m expecting a delivery as he “doesn’t have all day” 🙄

I’ve had them being late before - these things happen but almost 1.5h early?!

I use Morrison’s every week but usually have the 7-8pm slot. I’d say 3 times out of 5 they’ll ring and ask if they are ok to deliver early (half hour max) but it’s no problem if not. We always agree to it and the drivers are always friendly and polite about it.
I’d be very annoyed being spoken to as you were, you haven’t got all day either, hence booking a time slot!

Jaxhog · 11/10/2021 17:22

@Skyeheather

I would have done as you did, rushed home and taken the delivery. I would now be emailing/phoning Customer Services to complain. For some reason your delivery was loaded onto the van early and the driver instructed to deliver. It's not the driver's fault, it's something gone wrong at the store. The driver's only job is to deliver as instructed.
Me too. In my experience, Sainsbury often delivers later, and Waitrose often delivers earlier. Never had that much of a discrepancy though.

But I'm mostly just grateful that it's turned up at all.

cherrytreecottage · 11/10/2021 17:37

Yeah that's ridiculous. We pick specific slots due to working hours etc. Every so often we get a phone call asking if they can deliver early, but we're talking 10-15 minutes max and usually it's fine.
For him to be 1.5 hours early and then make out like it's your fault?! Confused

IamnotSethRogan · 11/10/2021 17:57

Yeah that's an utter piss take. If the Ocado man is going to be early he always calls to check it's convenient and if not he comes when expected.

SunshineCake1 · 11/10/2021 18:03

@TheChip

Ocado brought my shopping in bags but wouldn't take them back straight away. He said if I give them back next time I will get money back. Tbh I'd rather he'd just taken them then.

Dashdotcom · 11/10/2021 18:06

Agree with all the posters about Asda being decent, they have been early a few times but have always text/called and the last guy even asked when he knocked on early If we wanted him to come back at the right time (even though we were clearly in).
However their customer service line is pants, so they’re not perfect

Sceptre86 · 11/10/2021 18:13

I have had this problem with asda. Booked last slot of the day and the driver phoned to ask if he could come earlier. I said no as I wasn't home and wouldn't be till later half an hour before my slot. He sat in the van until then. This has happened a few times and is usually OK as I'm in but that day I had gone for lunch at my mil's and stayed longer.

TheChip · 11/10/2021 18:21

That sounds like a faff on @SunshineCake1 I'd of preferred them to take them straight back too.

I wish they'd all just move to the paper bags like amazon and charge a small packing charge for those who would prefer bags. It's an absolute nightmare when you have a big shop and have to transfer everything from their crates to bags and then to the kitchen.

WhenwillSleephappen · 11/10/2021 19:45

I won’t order with Tesco again. My child was an awful sleeper. I had finally got them to nap. Tesco came 30 mins early snd woke baby up. I asked if they ever rung to let customers know they were early. She shrugged and saId “sometimes”. So that was that. Didn’t use them again!

BlackeyedSusan · 11/10/2021 19:51

Our Morrisons drivers have always asked whether it is ok to come early. Mind you I saw a significant improvement in attitude once I had mentioned the d word in the description.

bringonyourwreckingball · 11/10/2021 20:10

In my experience Sainsbury’s are good on this - they always call and ask if they can deliver early and are fine if you say no. I will always accept an early delivery if I’m in (and the drivers are usually very grateful as we live near the store so I’m often the last drop) but there are times when it’s just not possible.

I've had the occasional polite phone call asking if it was okay to deliver early- max has been about 30 minutes early though. But there's a difference between asking politely or just turning up and an even bigger difference between asking politely or just turning up plus kicking off when you're out. It's them putting you out if they come early, not the other way round!

Pixxie7 · 12/10/2021 18:37

My Tesco delivery often comes early but only by 10 to 15 mins so really not a problem.

BringPizza · 12/10/2021 18:40

This is why I stopped using Sainsbury’s. They turned up early, too early, too many times and acted like they were doing me a favour rather than just turning up at the time I asked of when I knew I would be home.

Kb2942 · 12/10/2021 18:40

Nope he is in the wrong. I usually shop with Tesco. They used to come slightly early sometimes but would always ring first to ask or they would knock and ask if it's okay. I don't mind if I'm home but if I'm not, like you it's a pain. It was never ridiculously early like yours either. I've found them to be good at sticking to times though. Usually on the later end of the slot... never actually late though!

You book a slot for a reason!

cherish123 · 12/10/2021 18:40

I would have said I'm not there because I am not expecting you until 12.

I've had problems from them before. Once 6 hours late. Another firm give much better customer service for grocery delivery (upmarket shop with green logo 😉). Actually not much difference in price, if you shop wisely.

BornAgainCountryBumpkin1 · 12/10/2021 18:41

Supermarket manager here. Different company but same rules should apply. Have to call to say if they will be early or late. Courtesy but also they can then replan routes etc. Very rude of him also & I would be livid if I was his manager. Bad attitude make sure you complain. Would of asked him to come back at the allotted time.

Trinity69 · 12/10/2021 18:45

I am a delivery driver for a supermarket and often find myself in the position to deliver early. If the customer isn't in, I wait. It's not their fault I'm running ahead of time. 9 times out of 10 they're in and happy to receive divery early but if not that's my bad and I wait.

Twinstudy · 12/10/2021 18:49

YANBU. But I do often pick the 10-11 slot from ocado because it's free and they always come early. They used to call I think but they don't seem to bother now. One guy mentioned something about being a bit early and I told him I book the late slot coz it's free and he laughed and said everyone does, that's why they don't bother calling Grin (not ideal obviously if you're not actually going to be in earlier but v convenient for me!)

wentworthinmate · 12/10/2021 19:04

I used to work for Waitrose and we were not allowed to arrive more than 10 minutes before the slot time. If they weren't in when that happened we would wait. Also if we were running late staff back at the store would ring all the following customers with an eta and check that would be acceptable. If not we would deliver when it was convenient, maybe with a different driver. We would never cancel if it was our fault. However, don't work for them now and use Ocado!

AnnaSW1 · 12/10/2021 19:09

For the last month Tesco keeps doing this. I book the slot for 5pm as that's when I finish working from home! It's so annoying.

Lovely13 · 12/10/2021 19:26

Tesco’s are well mad. Tried to set up online shopping. Was told they didn’t cover my area. Two days later, saw a delivery van arrive for my neighbours. 😳
