Not sure I've made peace with it at all, but a quiet retirement and to go easy knowing my children will be ok - my younger son is severely autistic and has significant LDs and will one day be reliant on the compassion and competence of others, people he's not related to who won't love him like we do.

And while we're still alive, we will ALWAYS be the parents of what amounts to a small child. That is something I'm pretty bitter about as I watch my peers allowing their kids more freedoms and the anticipation of, ultimately, independence. We love him so much, but he is always going to be our small child really.

being friends with my colleagues.

Adamine · 10/10/2021 19:13

@IncorrigibleTitmouse

A gap year travelling like all my friends did.

Going away to uni (couldn’t afford it so had to go part time as an adult).

Never too old to take a gap year and travel. My husband and I took a year out and travelled the world when our first child was 4 months old. We were on a very tight budget but had an amazing time. We have since travelled again but not for so long as the children are in school and we have jobs and a mortgage etc.

A Sindy doll house. God I wanted one of them so bad! As an adult it’s straight hair but i still haven’t made peace with my curls.

anotheronenow · 10/10/2021 19:13

More time with my beloved mum.

Tulipomania · 10/10/2021 19:14

Singing in tune, a sense of direction and a pert bum.

Lux523 · 10/10/2021 19:14

@Glassofshloer

A loving mum.
This one hit home as it's the first thought that came into my head.

I choose to be the most loving Mum and human in general - it makes my loss a little more bearable.

I'm with you Glassofshloer.

I obviously want to be a Victorian lady

Libraryghost · 10/10/2021 19:28

@GlomOfNit I thought I knew what autism was and then I met a family with a severely autistic child and witnessed how incredibly difficult it was for the family to manage. Like your family there was a lot of love but you could see how wearing, worrying and exhausting it was. Severe autism is a tough one to make peace with. Sending best wishes

branchlight · 10/10/2021 19:30

In all honesty I have not made peace with the things I will never have.
I went through a catastrophic trauma that led to the loss of nearly everything that mattered to me. I am trying to come to terms with that but in reality, I am nowhere near that and can't actually imagine ever being accepting that it happened, let alone at peace with it.

Nearly47 · 10/10/2021 19:30

Used to quite covet having beautiful furniture in a lovely big "period" home. It's ok not to have either.

I can do two of these, play the piano and speak French fluently! I spent summers in Paris as my grandmother was French.
Glassofshloer · 10/10/2021 19:45

It hurts doesn’t it @mumoftinyterrors
