Naked toddler in swimming pool showers

Noodella18 · 08/10/2021 14:35

I take my 2 year old swimming on Fridays. After the session we take a shower in the communal showers, next to the lockers and by the entrance to the pool. I didn't think twice about stripping off her swimming costume to wash her but the lifeguard told me today that she wasn't allowed to be nude 'because it's a public area' and she had to keep it on. Am I being naive in thinking that a naked two year old is really no big deal?

Yanbu - no harm in a naked 2 year old
Yabu - keep the cossie on

@Dojacatpaws

I am not going to live my life as if there is a paedo on every corner, cos they're aint
What does this even mean? You pretend they don't exist at all?

Do you know how many there are?

Dojacatpaws · 10/10/2021 13:33

No do you

rrhuth · 10/10/2021 13:34

@Skyla2005

Blossomtoes. If you worked in child protection seeing abuse day In day out wou would not be spouting this crap you are coming out with believe me I suggest you stop now
I agree with this. The views expressed by @Blossomtoes are far far from mainstream and should be seen as such.
Dojacatpaws · 10/10/2021 13:35

What ever mainstream means, you mean the fear culture?

Blossomtoes · 10/10/2021 13:36

Do you know how many there are?

Do you? I’d put money on far fewer than you think.

We’re not talking about revenge porn @DrSbaitso. We’re talking about the impact on a person of a photo of them being taken without their knowledge.

SW1amp · 10/10/2021 13:37

We went on holiday to Spain this summer to a very family friendly hotel with lots of German and Spanish families
The vast, vast majority of children were naked all day in the pool and beach, bar the babies who had swim nappies on

DS was in a rash suit for most of it, because getting sun cream on him is like bathing a cat
When we ate at the beach restaurants, it was pretty normal for naked kids to be running between the sea and tables naked

It’s weird how these photographer paedophiles would hang out in a British leisure centre for that 2 mins a week when they could see a naked child rather than spending £45 flying to Spain to see naked kids all day every day
And weird that it’s only fully clothed British kids at risk from them

Or, maybe the world isn’t full of child abusers with cameras and it’s another MN paranoia…

What difference does that make? If anything, a photo you didn't even know was being taken should be worse!

Are you feeling all right?

Exactly why Spain and Portugal are a hub for paedo rings. Educate yourself you honestly do not know what you are taking about
DrSbaitso · 10/10/2021 13:42

Tell me, Blossomtoes, what can I do to people with advanced dementia who will never have any recollection of it? Anything I like, presumably...

Blossomtoes · 10/10/2021 13:42

I’m feeling fine, thank you so much for asking @DrSbaitso.

It’s interesting that this is a peculiarly British thing @SW1amp. unsurprising though.

Goodness me. First revenge porn, now people with dementia. What irrelevance next, I wonder.
Dojacatpaws · 10/10/2021 13:44

So if Spain and Portugal are a hub for paedo rings are we OK in British swimming pools then?

DrSbaitso · 10/10/2021 13:45

Goodness me. First revenge porn, now people with dementia. What irrelevance next, I wonder.

You can misuse the word "irrelevance" but it doesn't answer the question of why it's ok to commit a gross act of intrusion and criminality, even against children, just as long as you never get found out. Or make an actual irrelevance of directly comparable scenarios.

Shag your husband? As long as you don't know, I can do that?

SW1amp · 10/10/2021 13:47

Source?
Googling it brings up stories about the Spanish police smashing an international ring which included arrests in the UK, Spain and Latin America, where the majority of the arrested men were teens (so not exactly the dirty old man trope)
And the only story I can see about Portugal relates to a ring using orphanages, so unrelated to kids on beaches

Can you also explain how Germany, where nudity is totally common place all the time, isn’t afflicted by the same problem as British leisure centres..?

Blossomtoes · 10/10/2021 13:47

Shag your husband? As long as you don't know, I can do that?

You could try. I doubt very much he’d be up for it.

liveforsummer · 10/10/2021 13:50

Seeing as it's poolside then I can see where they are coming from. Communal showers inside the changing rooms would be fine.

Well tell me. You say you're fine with me spreading candid naked pics of you all over the Internet Internet as long as you never know. So is it OK to do it to children and other adults who wouldn't think it was OK? And why are revenge porn and people with dementia so irrelevant and different.

You know that if you say something daft, you can just say "Actually, scratch that. I've reconsidered"?

That is literally the default MN position on the relationship boards Poster: ‘I know a man who is having an affair. Should I tell the wife’ Everyone: ‘no! What she doesn’t know can’t hurt her. Don’t rip her life apart telling her, she is fine as she is’
Blossomtoes · 10/10/2021 13:53

I haven’t said that, have I? The daftest thing here is your introduction of people with dementia.

FKATondelayo · 10/10/2021 14:05

I think people should also be aware that these sorts of conversations attract a lot of posters who like talking about this subject matter and pushing the boundaries on it.

Oh my dear lord. Child abuse videos and images are made in every single country. Each image is of of a real life child actually being abused do you not understand that. There a millions It is rife. The reason you don't see them on beaches is because they don't have a sign on the head telling people what they are how can you be so blinkered you do not want to believe it because it's horrible but it is true.
Londonwriter · 10/10/2021 14:27

I don’t think anyone is arguing that kids aren’t abused. The question is whether you need to be overly worried about paedophiles photographing/kidnapping/assaulting naked toddlers in the public shower area of a British swimming pool?

Statistically speaking, 90-95% of under 18s who experience sexual assault are assaulted by someone they know. Half of under-6s who are sexually assaulted are abused by a family member.

Thus, it’s WAY more likely for a child aged 0-6 to have photos taken by a paedophilic family member than by a stranger in a changing room. Likewise, a shocking 40% of sexual assault of minors is by another child.

In short, the real paedophile threat to your average two year old is being babysat by their porn-addicted teenage cousin - not by a weirdo taking photos in a public changing room.

Pythonista · 10/10/2021 14:30

But why risk it as it isn't actually necessary?

Blossomtoes · 10/10/2021 14:32

Because it’s not much of a risk. 🤷‍♀️
