Hey everyone!!!
We had a scan last week Friday and it was confirmed it we are having twins!!! Currently 7w5days!
I've so overwhelmed with emotions; bouncing between being so scared about possible risks and overjoyed that after 3 years of infertility, a failed round of IVF, we have naturally conceived twins with no real history of twins in my family. In my case I honestly feel this is a miracle from God!
At present it seems babies share a sac but have separate placentas..
I believe this means they are identical but it seems that twins in the "format" is not the most common.. I may be wrong? Confused

I have entered the dark hole of google all the possible be risks with twin pregnancy plus having an increased BMI.
Not really a AIBU, posting here mainly for traffic but would love to hear positive twin pregnancy stories and could do with any advise or support!
Thank you all so much in advance!

Hi, I had b/g twins 19 months ago.

They had two sacs and two placentas.
I was 47, after 10 IVFs/IUIs and two miscarriages, so I was very anxious during pregnancy.
But the pregnancy was a breeze! Just some heartburn and sore hips in the last couple of weeks.
I had about 12 scans in total.

Best of luck - twins are a blessing! :)

Congratulations! Aww I needed good news like these today! I am so glad that there is a light in the end of this ttc dark tunnel I am in. Twins, double the happiness! Don't google, just ask your doctor and trust whatever they say.

Congratulations OP, this is so exciting!!!

Midwife here. It is very rare to have twins sharing the same sac but two separate placentas. Most people think "monochorionic" means "single placenta", but it actually means a single chorionic membrane (the internal membrane, the external one being the amniotic membrane). So normally a single chorion means also combined placentas. If you have a single chorion but 2 separate placentas that is very uncommon. It would mean the separation of the twins happened very early but somehow each of them managed to develop their own placenta.

Having the same chorionic sac means your babies share the same space and amniotic fluid. This makes it more likely that their umbilical cords will get knotted in one another. Inside the womb this often causes no trouble, but it can cause trouble at birth, so you will be recommended a cesarean section. Look up some photos of tangled cords, they can look very artistic! (but don't worry, umbilical cords are made to stretch and grow around "knots" and still transfer blood and nutrients to both babies).

Having separate placentas would be actually a very good thing! One of the main risks with shared placentas is that often they also have shared vascularity, and sometimes one baby can be taking blood that belongs to the other (twin-to-twin transfusion), resulting in one twin struggling to grow and obtain nutrients. This is very common in monochorionic twins. if your babies have each one placenta, this risk won't be there at all!

I am SOOOO excited for you, you're in for an amazing journey. please keep updating us and feel free to ask any questions, if I can help I would love to.

👋
I am too expecting twins! 11w5d today. They have seperate sacs and at my last scan of 9w3d both looked perfect,
...even though I had had bleeding a couple of weeks before!

My booking scan is Oct 27th but I feel it is so far away.
I am fighting off negative thoughts all the time.
We too tried for a few years, had 3 losses so it doesn't help at all.
Some mornings I wake and feel or see no bump at all...other times its there on splendid show 🤷🏻‍♀️

How are you getting along with it all?
Did you get a due date?

Could I ask what your first trimester was like? I am finding it so hard to be positive after losses in the past. I am 5ft6inch with about a 27bmi. I think an obvious bump has emerged already (11weeks) and that gives me hope....but then some mornings its all but gone.

I am a bag of worries.
I am having slight blood in discharge occasionally and then it stops.
I had a uti at the start and I really don't feel its gone but I was on antibiotics for 4 weeks and a urine analysis came back fine.
Maybe the pelvic / bladder pain is to be expected??

Sorry for all the queries....
My EPU and gynae just want to see me if its an emergency or at booking scan which is 13w5d ( ages away 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Congratulations!

Twins sharing a sac are known as MCMA twins. There an also be DCDA or MCDA but these both have separate sacs. MCMA twins result from one fertilised egg so they will be identical.

That's amazing news! Huge congratulations to you 🎉

Wonderful, best wishes xx

It is very very unusual to be in the same sac yet have 2 placentas so I will guess at a later gestation they may determine the sac is in divided or the placentas are in fact 1 not 2. This image shows the different types of twins. The only ones in the same sac share a placenta also.
