Hey everyone!!!
We had a scan last week Friday and it was confirmed it we are having twins!!! Currently 7w5days!
I've so overwhelmed with emotions; bouncing between being so scared about possible risks and overjoyed that after 3 years of infertility, a failed round of IVF, we have naturally conceived twins with no real history of twins in my family. In my case I honestly feel this is a miracle from God!
At present it seems babies share a sac but have separate placentas..
I believe this means they are identical but it seems that twins in the "format" is not the most common.. I may be wrong? Confused

I have entered the dark hole of google all the possible be risks with twin pregnancy plus having an increased BMI.
Not really a AIBU, posting here mainly for traffic but would love to hear positive twin pregnancy stories and could do with any advise or support!
Thank you all so much in advance!

Congratulations!
I have 13 year old identical twins conceived naturally at 42!

Its still quite the most astonished I have ever been in my life.

Scan woman said
"OK theres the heart beating"
And then oh do casually
"And there's the other one"

And I said
"Another what?"
😂

My heart actually sank as I was hoping and praying for a straightforward and safe pregnancy given my ancientness. That went out the window of course. Googling put the fear of god into me.
in the end it all went very well. Care is consultant led and you scanned all the time (as they worry about TTTS), which is actually very reassuring.

We didn't get TTTS fortunately but I believe the prognosis is is so much better now compared to just 13 years ago.

Be prepared to deliver early. I was scheduled to deliver at 34 weeks...... consultant felt there was more to lose than to gain by going on longer. In the event it all kicked off at 32weeks and they were born by emergency Csection.
Even that went very calmly and I wasn't stressed or even worried.
They were 3.5 and 4.5 lb little girls, which actually is quite good for twins at 32weeks.
They were in SCBU for just 2 weeks and then came home. They were perfectly well, just small.

We found dealing with twins to be surprisingly easy. Probably it just seemed normal to do everything twice, as they were our first children. We had nothing to compare it with. They were very contented babies, slept well. We had very few bad nights with them. I dont know if thats a twin thing or a premmie thing.

Amazingly I went on to have another very unexpected single baby and thats when I realised how very well looked after we had been as a twin pregnancy. Quite spoiled really, compared to my singleton pregnancy.

So all in all everything about it was positive, but I do appreciate that Google will scare you to death. I would suggest that you just don't do it...... but I know you will 😁 so I hope our positive story is a bit reassuring.

I have twins - you should have extra support from your midwife/GP as often happens with multiples. It's hard work growing two actual people inside of you using little more than your sandwiches Grin but it's utterly great.

Put yourself in the centre of everything now so that when you need to be there, you'll already have everyone looking after you. All the v best! Flowers

Oh my 🥺 amazing

Curlyshabtree · 07/10/2021 20:47

Congratulations! My boy/girl twins are 13 now. I had such great pre natal care. I don’t remember anything about the first 3 months though so be sure you remember to keep notes!!
It is tough but it does get easier. I definitely felt blessed to have them, I still do (most of the time 😂)

montysma1 · 07/10/2021 20:47

Are you sure there are 2 placentas? My understanding is that identicals always share a placenta.
Mine were MCDA, monochorionic diamniotic, ie, one placenta and 2 sacs.
That I believe is the most common type of identical.
MoMo twins, Monochorionic Monoamniotic, shared placenta and shared sac are less common.

As I understand it twins with 2 placentas are never identical as the two placentas originate from different eggs.
2 placentas means dichorionic twins (non identical)

olivehater · 07/10/2021 20:49

If they are MCDA twins then they share a single placenta but have separate amniotic sacs. So you would see a dividing membrane.
To be honest you don’t really see the placenta at this stage. The placenta is only visible from about 9/10 weeks. That scan pic looks to be about 6/7 weeks. Unless you have other scans you just haven’t shown. I would ask at your next scan to clear up the confusion x

I caught twins after 4+y on first clomid cycle. I too was overweight. Carried amazingly well to 37+5 and they were in no rush! They're almost 13 now! A whirlwind, but having a single follow, so many positives to twins. Congratulations. It's such a special thing

Shimy · 07/10/2021 20:52

This is amazing, how exciting! You guys are going to have a fabulous Xmas!

olivehater · 07/10/2021 20:54

To answer montysymas question twins with two separate placentas can be identical. It just means the egg separated earlier. The only way of knowing for sure when they have separate placentas is if they are different sexes. Other wise it’s wait and see if they look the same when they arrive.

Congratulations @concreterose31! Flowers

I have MCDA twin boys who are nearly 13. I was induced and had them at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia - a little early but nothing to write home about. They didn’t need any special care.

You’ll likely be consultant-led as they’re identical and have more scans than a singleton pregnancy, they’ll look after you.

Twins are wonderful. Of course it was hard work but they are so great.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 07/10/2021 20:56

Congratulations. That's amazing! I conceived my dd after many years of trying so I do understand how you feel and twins is just lovely.

Newchances · 07/10/2021 21:00

My niece had non identical twin girls two years ago. She had a problem free pregnancy and labour, with just gas and air. They were born at 38 weeks, one was 6lb 10 and the other was 7lb 8.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

ViceLikeBlip · 07/10/2021 21:04

Congratulations! I would have loved twins- that's extra special xx

twinmum2007 · 07/10/2021 21:08

Oh wow. Congratulations OP. Twins rock! My 2 are now 14, were prem and tiny but are now proper teenagers with attitude. Just enjoy it all - you do.everything a singletons.parent does but twice! When they are babies they will.comfort and sooth each other, as toddlers they'll.play together, then.by the time they are teens at each other's throats you'll be used to it!! Enjoy & congrats again..

technosausage · 07/10/2021 21:12

Congratulations Flowers

Singalongsingsong · 07/10/2021 21:19

Congratulations! How fab. Twins are wonderful- I speak as the mum of 25 year old non-identical twin daughters and it has been wonderful. Naturally conceived. Normal labour at 37 weeks, but c section as one was becoming distressed - quickly resolved and no side effects (she’s a lawyer now)
Enjoy every moment!

Mulhollandmagoo · 07/10/2021 21:21

Aw how lovely ❤️ congratulations Flowers

LowlandLucky · 07/10/2021 21:22

Congratulations, wonderful news Flowers

HazelBite · 07/10/2021 21:23

Congratulations, my identical boys are now 34!
the only thing I would advise is that you take extra care of yourself. I don't know what your "work" situation is but out of all the mums of twins I got to know those who worked well on into their pregnancy delivered far earlier than those who were SAHM's or who had been signed off work for pregnancy related reasons.
(Mine were born by section at 36 weeks weighing 7lb12oz and 8lb 4oz)

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/10/2021 21:23

This is fab, congratulations.

My twin DDs are now 20, we were ttc for 4 years and couldn’t believe it when it happened as we had kind of given up …. and had barely been near each other that month due to illness, various stag/hen weekends etc.

It’s weird how these things work out!

Try not to google and stress, enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can. Hope it all goes fantastically for you.

montysma1 · 07/10/2021 21:26

I was just reading up on that!
Mine were MCDA and we were told that one placenta means identical.
I probably made the leap that 2 placentas therefore means non identical. For 13years I have been under a misapprehension😂

Purpleseaside · 07/10/2021 21:30

Beautiful and wonderful news ❤️❤️

TheyWentToSeaInASieve · 07/10/2021 21:36

Congratulations! It will be a very exciting ride. Compared with a singleton, things are much harder at first, but later much easier.

I second subscribing to Tamba. They run helpful talks and will link you with a local twin club.

Mine are 10 years old:-)

FFSAllTheGoodNamesAreGone · 07/10/2021 21:39
