Hey everyone!!!
We had a scan last week Friday and it was confirmed it we are having twins!!! Currently 7w5days!
I've so overwhelmed with emotions; bouncing between being so scared about possible risks and overjoyed that after 3 years of infertility, a failed round of IVF, we have naturally conceived twins with no real history of twins in my family. In my case I honestly feel this is a miracle from God!
At present it seems babies share a sac but have separate placentas..
I believe this means they are identical but it seems that twins in the "format" is not the most common.. I may be wrong? Confused

I have entered the dark hole of google all the possible be risks with twin pregnancy plus having an increased BMI.
Not really a AIBU, posting here mainly for traffic but would love to hear positive twin pregnancy stories and could do with any advise or support!
Thank you all so much in advance!

Don't Google. As with everything there is a tiny percentage chance of things going wrong. And a very high percentage chance of it going fine.

Roselilly36 · 07/10/2021 18:07

How wonderful, so pleased for you

Massive Congratulations OP 🎊🎉 Take some time to enjoy the news before going down the Google rabbit holes 💕

We found out at the 12/13 wk scan, totally unexpected, I believe I swore in shock! My girls were deemed non identical until the 20wk scan, where they found out they were identical and I had some issues to follow. So be firm and make sure if they are uncertain that you get a 2nd opinion. It can make a difference to the care you receive. Good luck and enjoy your babies Smile

I have 9 month old boy girl twins and honestly it's the most amazing thing ever! I love every millisecond

Thank you so much for this! The shock is surreal! What did they final use to determine that they are identical? Do you remember much about placentas and sacs? Do you mind sharing the concerns that arose?

So many congratulations! I have identical twin girls – doctors said that they shared a sac, but they each had a placenta, but they all had a bit of a heated discussion about it. I never did find out what was supposed to the usual situation, but medical staff said that it meant that they didn’t know whether my girls were identical or not, and we had to wait for them to grow up a bit!

Thank you sooo much! Haha this sounds similar to what was happening during my early scan, I couldn't work out what it meant abs if I should be more worried about this. Did you realise they are identical by the looks?

They didn't look particularly identical when they were born - just the usual screwed-up baby faces really. Staff were as clueless as me and, when they were a couple of days old, we laid them on the bed to compare their ears! This was pre-internet days, so we couldn't look up whether identical twins had matching fingerprints (yes, we even tried to check those too).

They were tagged with multiple ID bracelets, and I didn't remove them for three weeks as I was paranoid that I'd muddle them up - but it took me a while to recognise little differences. My DH struggled for ages!

We bent over backwards to treat them as individuals, they were never dressed the same, or made to "share" birthday/Christmas presents. Friends and family were on pain of death to send single birthday cards "to the twins". They are now (very identical) adults, but with their own identities and very different likes and dislikes.

Congratulations!! Wonderful! I have almost 4 year old boy/girl twins. They were born at 35 weeks so had some NICU time but are thriving. My twins are chaos, they are both little whirlwinds but are so worth it!

Firstworlddilemma · 07/10/2021 18:53

Congratulations .

I conceived twins naturally after around 3 years of infertility. I actually found out they were twins at around 5 weeks when I attended my first appointment with a fertility specialist and he did an early scan after I’d done a test the day before!

The fact that you’ve had a scan and seen two healthy heart beats is wonderful.

I had 2 placentas 2 sacs and two same sex but totally non identical twins. They were hard work but great fun.

Congratulations and enjoy every moment.

OH WONDERFUL NEWS 🎉

Congratulations 🌸💕

Didiplanthis · 07/10/2021 18:58

I thought mine were non identical and told everyone that..one was smaller and both looked identical their sister.. by 8 months no one could tell them apart so we got zygosity testing done .... yup ... identical ! Retrospectively it is blindingly obvious 😂

FrasierCraneDay · 07/10/2021 18:58

Well this has cheered me right up on a cold dreary night. Many congratulations OP, enjoy every minute Thanks

LittleBirdBlu · 07/10/2021 19:05

Identical twin mum here, my girls were 1 placenta and 2 sacs. Both born healthy at 36 weeks. It was hard work when they were babies but not as hard as I thought it would be. They are 8 now and it's definitely easier now. Best of luck 😊

44PumpLane · 07/10/2021 19:07

Congratulations OP!

I have nearly 5 year old DCDA twin girls.

That means Dichorionic Diamniotic
..... Two placentas two amniotic sacks.

Very non identical girls :)

They were born at 36+3 and didn't need special care.

Take any and all offers of help in the early days, the sleepless nights are tough but you get into a routine quickly.
