Hey everyone!!!
We had a scan last week Friday and it was confirmed it we are having twins!!! Currently 7w5days!
I've so overwhelmed with emotions; bouncing between being so scared about possible risks and overjoyed that after 3 years of infertility, a failed round of IVF, we have naturally conceived twins with no real history of twins in my family. In my case I honestly feel this is a miracle from God!
At present it seems babies share a sac but have separate placentas..
I believe this means they are identical but it seems that twins in the "format" is not the most common.. I may be wrong? Confused

I have entered the dark hole of google all the possible be risks with twin pregnancy plus having an increased BMI.
Not really a AIBU, posting here mainly for traffic but would love to hear positive twin pregnancy stories and could do with any advise or support!
Thank you all so much in advance!

Congratulations op! Flowers

If they share a sac ( no dividing membrane which is what it looks like on that pic) they are monochorionic monoamniotic and they will also share a placenta. It’s pretty rare. They will be identical. They will keep an eye on you throughout your pregnancy. Huge congratulations xxx

Please stay off Google. Put your feet up and enjoy every minute.. congratulations and don't let anything spoil it. I had to go through IVF to. I'm also a mum to twins. Good luck. I repeat, stay off Google or it'll spoil this for you x

Congratulations! Some friends of our were blessed with non-identical twin girls after years and years of infertility. I think it's really understandable that you are feeling very anxious now, have you had your booking appointment with your midwife? She should be able to refer you to the perinatal mental health team who can help you throughout the pregnancy.

Try to remember that visible heartbeats at seven weeks means it's incredibly likely that you've got two healthy babies in there - I had a couple of bleeds just before seven weeks and seeing the little flicker on the screen was so reassuring because if they're looking good at that stage then their chances are really excellent Smile

Congratulations! My eldest DD was a result of 4 years TTC and two rounds of ICSI. I conceived fraternal boy twins naturally almost immediately when we tried for a sibling-expecting nothing. It’s a big shock when you’re not expecting it.

Hopefully your next scan will confirm what type of twins you’re having and your care path will be determined by that. You will come under a consultant care and have lots of extra scans. You’ll be in safe hands.

It’s helpful to get in touch with other expectant twin mums as it’s a unique pregnancy and different to “singleton” pregnancies.

Beautiful 😍
Congratulations. I just showed it to DH as we are struggling to conceive and it's given us some hope so thankyou x

Thank you for sharing! I have read a lot about this type of the twins the trick thing is ours clearly have two separate placentas and a shared sac.. so they think.. I believe they are termed Monochronic Diamniotic

Thank you soo much! Do you remember feeling quite worried early on? I am trying to gauge if my anxiousness is warranted as it's early days or should I relax? Lol I know it's not something that i can really be told but for some reason I've convinced myself that my chances of a miscarriage has doubled as it's twins

Oh definitely, all the way through to be honest. I am prone to anxiety, especially around my children, so probably not the best person to ask. My consultant recommended foetal monitoring for a week around 30 weeks. When they told me the clinic was drop in I kept going even though they said I didn’t have to.

I love this kind of thread. Huge congratulations OP! Flowers

As a mum of one toddler I look at twin mums in awe. I honestly don’t know how you do it! Heroes!

Frazzledmummy123 · 07/10/2021 20:15

Congratulations!! Flowers

I have twin girls who are now 7 years old. They are non-identical and were in separate sacs with separate placentas. I was very worried about something going wrong given I have a history of miscarriages (none of my miscarriages were twins) and the fact twins are considered higher risk. However I had a straightforward pregnancy and birth with them, and the midwife at the hospital told me the risks aren't that much higher unless a difficulty presents itself. She told me 'there is a higher chance of things going right than going wrong'.

Try to avoid Google as much as you can. Your check ups will keep your mind at ease and midwives will look after you.

Enjoy every minute and second, it is all worth it. I miss my girls being babies and toddlers (get ready for all the 'are they twins?' questions and celebrity treatment from the general public Wink) xx

Hard bloody work but so worth it. Enjoy 😊

Quornflakegirl · 07/10/2021 20:17

Congratulations! My twin girls are 9 now but I still remember the shock of seeing two babies at my first scan.

flippertyop · 07/10/2021 20:23

Curlygirl06 · 07/10/2021 20:29

Twin mum here, mine are 30 soon! Mine are identical but it was so long ago I don't think they could tell anything much from the scans as they weren't as detailed as now. Congratulations! I had an older daughter as well and the twins were a darn sight easier than she was.
