To not get DS vaccinated

I think this probably not allowed but I'm very interested to see what the general population thinks about vaccinating our DC. DS is 12 and after a tonne of research we've decided not to vaccinate. Other mums in the school are struggling to make a decision.

Yanbu=no to the vaccine
Yabu=yes to the vaccine

@Magicalwoodlands

To be honest, I don’t feel vaccinations or any medical procedure should be presented as a moral issue. It isn’t.

Vaccinations should happen to benefit the person being vaccinated. It is wrong to try to coerce or guilt trip people into having an invasive procedure to benefit others.

Another great point

Individual choice based on individual criteria. People can and should make their own decision and should not be judged for it.

What research have you done?

CharleyMarley Their top line is as follows:

“Taking a precautionary approach, this margin of benefit is considered too small to support universal COVID-19 vaccination for this age group at this time. The committee will continue to review safety data as they emerge.”

It’s really not a benefit that’s substantial, that’s the reality. I also wouldn’t assume all medics are racing to get their kids done. It’s all anecdotal but many I know are not, they simply don’t believe the individual benefit exists for their individual children. I’m more than happy for my young adults who have opted out (they had it and were completely asymptomatic) and also very pleased that my vulnerable one has had it. I am pleased I have had the opportunity to have it and have taken this up as I feel this benefits me, have previously had it and sick as a dog. None of my friends or peers are in any way worried about my kids who have not had it, coming to our house or our entire family going to any celebrations they may be holding at theirs. They are educated in medicine, science and are not hysterical.

Anyway, we will have convenient community treatments coming through in the not too distant future which should also assist in alleviating all of this.

Has your child been offered a vaccination? There is fuck-all happening here, we'll take your appointment Angry

Mynameismargot · 06/10/2021 23:53

My 14yo ds has been fully vaccinated for weeks now. He wanted it and we agreed that he should have it, no drama.

I feel sorry for the parents in the UK that want their children to have it but haven't been given the opportunity yet and those that would prefer their children to be fully vaccinated but aren't being given that choice.

I should say I am not a parent. The risk of Long Covid would be something I would consider. It is still unknown whether a form of Long Covid could turn out to be a chronic illness for some. Yes, majority will not get it but with different studies producing varied estimated rates of risk of LC and infection rates far from low in young people the chance is there. I am biased though as have had ME for over 2 decades - which shares some similarities to a form of long covid, too early to say whether same pathophysiology - so hyper aware of risk of long term post viral illness and how disabling it can be.

With children with ME if they are forced to not do too much at the beginning - as many sadly were - prognosis is better at least.

The risk from covid is much more severe than the risk from the vaccine, your child stays in harms way if they are not vaccinated.

recededpronunciation · 19/10/2021 12:23

My youngest is waiting for the vaccination still. Unfortunately while they’ve been waiting they’ve caught covid (it’s rampaging through their school) and despite being generally in good health, is just home from a four day hospital stay as a result, and still quite unwell. So I’d rather they’d had the vaccine in time and avoided all of that.
