To not get DS vaccinated

311 replies

Florence282 · 06/10/2021 08:42

I think this probably not allowed but I'm very interested to see what the general population thinks about vaccinating our DC. DS is 12 and after a tonne of research we've decided not to vaccinate. Other mums in the school are struggling to make a decision.

Yanbu=no to the vaccine
Yabu=yes to the vaccine

My DS is 12 and won't be having the vaccine at the moment. A colleague in her early 20s developed myocarditis post vaccine and the risk for young men appears to be higher. If it becomes clear that covid itself is causing more cases of myocarditis than the vaccine, then we shall rethink our decision. He is having the flu vaccine and I am double vaccinated.

Belladonna12 · 06/10/2021 13:10

Now I'm happy to take my chance and have the vaccine but I'm not going to take that chance with my DC

You're taking a chance with covid instead though aren't you?

Comedycook · 06/10/2021 13:11

@gamerchick

Might not be able to anyway. Whole year groups are being missed because they're running out of time and no word on whether they're going back to the schools. So people can stop whinging about it now.
What do you mean running out of time?
Comedycook · 06/10/2021 13:13

I can't see any hysterical posts

I suggest you look back. Despite being double jabbed, I am apparently a despicable, selfish person for not getting my dc vaccinated who considers one poster to be a piece of shit.

gamerchick · 06/10/2021 13:13

As in there's not enough time in the school day to do all of the kids. So not only are they missing the covid vaccine, they're missing the flu as well and there's no other way of getting them yet. I've checked.

My son's school yr 10 and 11 were missed, another local school the year 11s were missed and that's just the schools I've heard about.

Letter saying, soz about that, we don't know what's going to happen now last night.

But there's countless school days ahead and there's no time limit is there? Surely they'll eventually get round to vaccinating all who want it?
FreeBritnee · 06/10/2021 13:21

My thoughts when it comes to vaccines is could I live with myself if I’d said no to the vaccine and the child became seriously ill or even died as a result of my action. My answer is always no, I’d never forgive myself so I get the vaccine.

Theredjellybean · 06/10/2021 13:22

I have to say I laugh now at posters saying "we are not allowing our dc to be vaccinated", because over and over it has been explained.. Its not your choice...
Its the young person's choice.
I am vaccinating in schools and have already had quite a few young people without parental consent forms can be me forward for a jab.
Most worrying is they are saying they are agreeing with their parents at home about not having jab, as feel to scared of disagreeing with them.
They then hear the talk about gilick competency and it being their choice and they are coming up asking to be vaccinated.

How unfortunate for your colleague. I presume she was on the news and in the press for such a rare complication? Can we find her story online? Was her illness very serious? (It is already clear that just life in general, even without Covid gives you more chance of spontaneous myocarditis)
gamerchick · 06/10/2021 13:22

That's right. But there's no plans to go back to the schools as yet. How long will it take to double back once all of the schools have been touched on in the country?

It was always going to be ambitious doing both vaccines at school.

Belladonna12 · 06/10/2021 13:23

@Magicalwoodlands

Which vaccines in history have ever been passed safe and then later be found to have significant long term effects?

The swine flu one did, which is why a few are wary now.

There have been cases in history where people experienced long term effects from vaccine but the effects started shortly after a vaccination. There are no documented cases where people were absolutely fine for weeks after vaccination and then started experiencing "long term" adverse effects long after the vaccine had left the body.

One hysterical post on the pro-vax side, compared to, lost count of how many on the anti-vax side tbf.
Oneborneverydecade · 06/10/2021 13:25

DS15 has a sporting tour booked in the US in Feb 2022. We've been told he needs to be vaccinated to participate. That made the decision easier

DameFanny · 06/10/2021 13:25
New Scientist reported that the risk of myocarditis is 6 times higher with a Covid infection than with the vaccination.

www.newscientist.com/article/mg25133462-800-myocarditis-is-more-common-after-covid-19-infection-than-vaccination/amp/
That 15yo girl who died the day before she was due to get her first jab died of covid-induced myocarditis.

All the cardio-vascular risks of the vaccine are there because they're risks of covid. Blood clots in 37% of hospitalisations for example.

So don't over-estimate the vaccine risks and under estimate the covid risks, because we're seeing tragic outcomes now in younger, healthy people.

And the vaccine does reduce transmission - it just doesn't eliminate it, especially since Delta came along.

KaleJuicer · 06/10/2021 13:28

I’m double vaxxed and caught covid from my unvaccinated teenager. She’ll definitely be getting the vaccine when she’s past the 28 days post recovery mark (she saw how sick I was and doesn’t want to pass it on to others in the future). Yes I know you can still transmit if vaxxed but it’s much less likely.

Verite1 · 06/10/2021 13:31

I am currently on the fence. I have been double vaxxed and my kids have had all their childhood vaccines. However, there are conflicting reports about risks/benefits (see both new scientist study and one that Edwinbear linked to earlier). It is really unhelpful for posters to denigrate either those who are unsure or those who have made a decision and if the aim is to change people’s minds, simple psychology means that it is likely to fail. If it is selfish to consider your child’s well-being first and foremost, then most parents are (and indeed should be) selfish. I don’t have to make a decision for a few more months and I am very glad of that.

HeyYouGuuuuuuys · 06/10/2021 13:34

Do you think vaccine uptake will increase if schools and venues say no vaccine no entry/ no vaccine no school trip?

Why does it have to be about sides? I'm vaccinated, I don't want my kids vaccinated.... yet. I don't consider myself anti vax. There's loads of posters who feel the same as me

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 13:46

@LaetitiaASD… really?!

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 13:47

Most people are just trying to decide what’s best for their DCs, not anti vaxxers or selfish.

My DS is so precious to me, I need to ensure I do the best for him.

thelastgoldeneagle · 06/10/2021 13:53

The risk of myocarditis if you have Covid is about 70 times high than the risk from the vaccine. Just sayin'.

frednfreda · 06/10/2021 13:54

To those people that call everyone that is questioning giving the Covid jab to their children an antivaxxer, do you eat meat? Turkey for Christmas? Well then you clearly support the dog meat trade.

Stop making stupid assumptions.

Verite1 · 06/10/2021 13:55

@LaetitiaASD - wow - that is some seriously fucked up thinking there. Who in their right mind would hope for a child’s death to punish their parents.

Where on this thread has a poster been been called an "an antivaxxer" just for "questioning" giving the covid jab?
