As the title suggests really. I was wondering today what other people do and for how many hours a week to earn £20,000-£30,000 per year? I like having a glimpse into other people's worlds 🙂

Night Senior Carer, last year I was on about £25k. I do lots of overtime 2 extra shifts a month.

Shoobydooer · 06/10/2021 10:03

I came to it from the local press so that was my background, others in the team have more events or digital marketing experience. I could probably have made it higher up the ladder by now but have never been a climber - I have no official comms or PR qualifications.

Some in my team just fell into it and developed their skills on the job, it's one of those really if you're in a big enough org.

Lecturer in FE with team leader responsibilities full time 30k. Haven't had a day off for months, didn't get my summer break due to staff shortages, do it because I love it, not for the money, obviously!

20-30 I was a junior buyer/procurement type roles, now closer to 40 in a more senior position with no line management. Went into it with no previous experience or qualifications, started as admin and quickly stepped in to a junior buyer in private sector then made the move to public sector where there is more opportunity to move around and better flexibility around working patterns.
I've seen plenty of people come into this type of work and do really well, there's a shortage in the sector so jobs are reasonably easy to find.

Exams Officer - term time plus 4 weeks, 8.30 - 4.30. Quite a lot of the 4 weeks is overtime in exam season, so most school holidays off.

NotBehindTheRadiatorPlease · 06/10/2021 10:15

I'm a lab technician for a chemical company. I earn 25k a year.

NotBehindTheRadiatorPlease · 06/10/2021 10:19

@TableFlowerss Sadly not. Someone working 37.5 hours a week at NMW (which is currently £8.91 if you're over 23) will be earning just under 16k a year after tax. Even less if they're under 23.

NortieTortie · 06/10/2021 10:28

DH earns in that range, he works with sheet metal.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 06/10/2021 10:37

Band 3 nhs but only just above 21k

Sunshineandflipflops · 06/10/2021 10:39

Civil servant (officer in local govt) - £25 for 4 days a week. full time would be just over £30k.

Sunshineandflipflops · 06/10/2021 10:40

£25k, obviously!

Seesawmummadaw · 06/10/2021 11:02

Nurse. 37.5 hours a week including unsociable hours.

RonRonRonWeasley · 06/10/2021 11:04

@Orangejuicemarathoner

teacher - term time 60-90 hours a week, out of term time 10-20 hours per week
Genuine question, why are you working 90 hours per week? I’m a teacher and have been for the last 7 years and never worked that many hours in a week. Something is seriously wrong if you are doing that many hours.
NovemberWitch · 06/10/2021 12:07

With teaching, it often depends on whether you’re primary or secondary, and if secondary, which subjects you teach. Then what the SLT’s expectations are.
As supply, I usually work 8-5pm in primary. Sometimes less.
As a class teacher, I worked 8-6, then a couple of hours each night marking work, assessing and whatnot. Then around 3/4 hours planning a week. Easy to hit 70 hours a week.

Tigger85 · 06/10/2021 12:40

Paramedic I'm part time now 24 hrs per week. We recently got moved up a pay band from 5 to 6 and full time I would now be on around 34 or 35k I think.

littlelionroars · 06/10/2021 12:54

Graphic Designer (Print) £27,200 - Part time (28 hours a week)

Would be £34,000 if I was full time.

EmpressSuiko · 06/10/2021 13:18

20K - 45+ hours a week - warehousing

Hothammock · 06/10/2021 13:21

Civil servant, I would work 2 to 3 days a week for that pay range

anon12345678901 · 06/10/2021 13:23

Over 30k - admin

LakieLady · 06/10/2021 13:29

Welfare rights officer. I'm part-time, but my f/t salary would be around £27k, more in local government where I've seen jobs advertised at up to £32k outside London.

SalemWitchCraft · 06/10/2021 13:30

This thread has been really refreshing. Seeing so many people on around the same income as me. Normally MN makes anyone earning under 80k think they should be living in poverty
