As the title suggests really. I was wondering today what other people do and for how many hours a week to earn £20,000-£30,000 per year? I like having a glimpse into other people's worlds 🙂

Project worker for a utilities company - 37 hours

luckyJasmin · 05/10/2021 23:50

@skatewanker

Data and analytics administration.
Would you go (and could do it) into consulting? You'll earn 4 times that (I'm in that field in consulting).
Batmanandbobbin · 06/10/2021 00:00

Teacher. Lower end of 20-30k 37.5 hours term time in school 15 hours at home. Out of term time I usually set myself 16 hours (over two days) to prep for next term. I'm never properly prepared. I’ve just been given an extra subject because someone left and have no resources so atm, same wage… more hours but that’s unusual.

Rachie1973 · 06/10/2021 00:04

Support worker.

Smeds · 06/10/2021 00:21

DH is a store manager in retail and earns just under £30k. Bit more with bonuses. 37 hours a week.

Redsquirrel5 · 06/10/2021 00:28

I have retired last year but I was a HLTA earning pro rata £23, 880.

Software engineer, but double those numbers.

Had loads of threads on this lately. Usually just descends into people accusing anyone on over 30k of making it up.

Curiosity101 · 06/10/2021 09:08

Our graduate software engineers (straight from uni) earn 30k for full time (37.5 hours) a week.

Bizarre isn't it? Most of my friends/family earn above that - very aware it's sector/role specific and that lots of people don't earn anywhere near that. To accuse people of making it up though is just as strange as posters not believing anybody earns minimum wage.

Education dept in children's services

ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast · 06/10/2021 09:19

Is anyone accuse others of making it up? It's very sector dependent. I didn't think the OP is asking what are high paid jobs? To be fair, I don't know what the OP is trying to established.

Why comment if you earn double what the op is asking?
LST · 06/10/2021 09:21

@TableFlowerss

Isn’t the minimum wage close to £20k?
No. I was shocked at how low minimum wage was when I got made redundant and was looking for work. It's around the 18k mark for around 40 hours a week
Shoobydooer · 06/10/2021 09:25

Comms officer with a not for profit org. I do four days but full time wouldn't take me over £28k.

crowsfeet57 · 06/10/2021 09:34

Work in a call centre.

BanginChoons · 06/10/2021 09:36

Band 5 midwife. Full time (post pay award) is £25,655. I can up that a little bit if I'm allocated weekend shifts but I don't ask for extras as I'm a single parent. My allocated hours are 7.5 but I do at least an extra hour a day (I arrive and start 30mins before my start time, and work through my unpaid lunch break.) Sometimes I stay up to an hour after my finish time, and I do a fair bit of admin from home, which I do not get paid for.

I've seen a lot of jobs for a comms officer, is there a recommended route to get into this role? E.g. qualifications/particular experience?
Whitefire · 06/10/2021 09:48

HCP, non NHS, mid Band 5.

No it is usually anyone who earns in that range is unqualified / doesn't work very hard / needs to do better. I even have the audacity to claim CTC, and should be bettering myself.
