Just dishing up dinner before I head out to work, just an easy fish fingers, chips and veg and suddenly thought 'how many fish fingers do I give an 11 year old? I wasn't sure whether 2 was enough or 3 too much, they do eat quite a lot.

How many would you give an 11 year old?

6, my 8yr old has 5?

Draggondragon · 05/10/2021 18:08

I only read this to see how long until carbs came in. Poor kids. It's just food. Meanwhile less than a thousand miles from me children are starving to death every minute of the day.

1forAll74 · 05/10/2021 18:08

5 or 6, and any left over if they want them, They are quite small these days.

Ozanj · 05/10/2021 18:09

Depends what else you’re serving with it. DS is nearly 2 and he will have 1 fishfinger because he loves beans, mash potatoes and sweetcorn and will binge on them so the fishfingers are wasted.

Booksandwine80 · 05/10/2021 18:09

My mum would give DD4 5, but that’s because she strips them of the breadcrumbs 🙄🤣

nc4565 · 05/10/2021 18:10

Christ. My 3yo has 3! With chips!

(She's a bean pole on the 25th percentile for weight before any jumps in).

Merryoldgoat · 05/10/2021 18:10

I’m going to have a fish finger sandwich now.

Clara91 · 05/10/2021 18:10

4

TheGriffle · 05/10/2021 18:11

My 4 and 8 years olds have 4/5 each with peas normally (no chips) if they had chips and peas then 3/4 each and prob a slice of bread and butter.

CottonSock · 05/10/2021 18:12

My 8yo would eat 4

Pascha · 05/10/2021 18:12

My 11yo has 4. My 8yo has 4 too. I would get LOOKS if I only dished up 2 Shock.

I too was only reading to see how soon "carbs" popped up. Anytime now I expect to see "this is why we have an obesity crisis".

4

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 05/10/2021 18:16

Probably three but I'd just ask child how many they wanted.

burritofan · 05/10/2021 18:17

Birds eye/Sainsbury’s: 3 to 4… to 6

The posh Waitrose supersize ones: 1 or 2. They’re MASSIVE

hauxwell · 05/10/2021 18:17

My 2.5 year old can easily eat 3 with veg and a few chips. I'd say 4 at a minimum.

mafted · 05/10/2021 18:19

My 9 and 10 year olds get three because they come in a box of 8 and I have the remaining 2 in a sandwich!

Anoisagusaris · 05/10/2021 18:20

The frozen Birds Eye type ones are tiny now. And they aren’t as nice as when I was a kid, they seem to just fall apart.

justkeepswimming52 · 05/10/2021 18:21

Birdseye type ones - 7 & 9 year olds have four each with chips and veg - any less and they'd be asking for more food pretty quickly afterwards. I'd let them have more if they were still hungry.

Both slim and average height.

Comedycook · 05/10/2021 18:22

My DC have never liked fish fingers but they do like chicken goujons which are roughly the same size. I give 2 to my dd 11 who has a small appetite and 4 to my ds13

KingdomScrolls · 05/10/2021 18:24

My two year old ate two at the weekend with new potatoes peas and a corn on the cob (I'm not mean he won't eat chips)

Ellarain · 05/10/2021 18:26

I would say 4 or 5

Anoisagusaris · 05/10/2021 18:26

@Comedycook any chicken goujons I’ve bought would be much more substantial than a Birds Eye fishfinger.

User5827372728 · 05/10/2021 18:31

My 4 year old eats 4

Briony123 · 05/10/2021 18:32

Four for in a sandwich but as a fast food supper we buy the frozen pieces of fish in batter. The same idea as fishfingers but a decent amount of fish. 11 is rather old for fishfingers unless in a sandwich.
