Washer dryer argument with DH

Magnoliamarigold · 05/10/2021 09:57

Me: We need a washer dryer, it saves space
DH: There is no such thing as a proper washer dryer, they all dry shit. We need a separate washing machine and a separate dryer. Everyone I know agrees with me.

AIBU?

DH is right.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/10/2021 09:58

Had one once. Would never do it again. Have you got space for both?

JuneOsborne · 05/10/2021 09:59

DH is right here.

Ginmakesitallok · 05/10/2021 09:59

Your DH is right washer dryers are rubbish

Dogsandbabies · 05/10/2021 09:59

Your husband is right I am afraid.

seaandsandcastles · 05/10/2021 09:59

Your DH is right.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 05/10/2021 09:59

If you have space for both, do not buy a washer drier. We have one out of necessity but only use for underwear and towels as it takes hours. And unless you spend £700 or so on a decent one they break yearly.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/10/2021 10:00

Dh is right. The only way a washer dryer drys properly is if you take half the load out and dry it in 2 lots.

violetbunny · 05/10/2021 10:00

Your DH is right. I've had one before and it was crap.

purplesequins · 05/10/2021 10:00

washer dryers are great if you need to dry an occassional item.

if you read the manual most washer dryers can only dry a half load. would be pointless to expect to wash and dry everything in one go.

Unmute · 05/10/2021 10:00

We have one and it's not great. We don't have room for both though, so it's slightly better than no drier.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 05/10/2021 10:01

Your DH is right here

ToykotoLosAngeles · 05/10/2021 10:01

Yep, ours washes 8kg and dries 4kg! And it's LG so wasn't cheap.

AttaGirrrrl · 05/10/2021 10:01

Can you put the drier somewhere else? Mine’s in the garage.

Magnoliamarigold · 05/10/2021 10:02

We have both at the moment, but the dryer is on the blink and so we are replacing it. I'm thinking of replacing the washing machine with a good quality dryer, as it frees up a bit of space in the cupboard.

Something like this has really good reviews: www.johnlewis.com/lg-fwv917wtse-freestanding-washer-dryer-10-5kg-7kg-load-1400rpm-spin-white/p5219743

Your DH is right I'm afraid. Had one once, the drying cycle never worked, just made everything hot and still wet.
After 18 months the plug caught fire and almost burned my house down. Never again.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 05/10/2021 10:02

We’ve got one out of necessity, if I had space for a seperate dryer I would definitely have one.

RecordPlayer · 05/10/2021 10:02

There is no way everyone you know agrees with you. The dryer function of washer dryers is always shockingly bad. Please don't do it unless you really do not have the space.

CornedBeef451 · 05/10/2021 10:02

Sorry to say DH is right. We had one but it was awful, doesn't dry a load and everything smelt weird.

I have one now as it came with the house but I made space for an actual tumble dryer as well.

chitchatchatter · 05/10/2021 10:02

Also, you can only be doing one thing at a time; either washing, or drying. So everything takes twice as long as it needs to.

Magnoliamarigold · 05/10/2021 10:02

DH was actually like: Put it to mumsnet and show me.
Now I might have to admit defeat

Apologies, just reread and see it was DH that said everyone agrees. He is correct!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 05/10/2021 10:03

He is right I'm afraid.....

Nsky · 05/10/2021 10:03

Your d’y is right, if I had to have a dryer it would be a 4 kg one, covered in hall, only cat and I tho

Gladioli23 · 05/10/2021 10:04

My drier lives in the shed - not ideal but definitely space saving!
