Washer dryer argument with DH

Magnoliamarigold · 05/10/2021 09:57

Me: We need a washer dryer, it saves space
DH: There is no such thing as a proper washer dryer, they all dry shit. We need a separate washing machine and a separate dryer. Everyone I know agrees with me.

AIBU?

Sadly your DH is right, I didn't listen to the same advice and now have regret Sad

Pottedpalm · 05/10/2021 10:05

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake

Dh is right. The only way a washer dryer drys properly is if you take half the load out and dry it in 2 lots.

We have a washer dryer and it is FABULOUS! Works fantastically! Would heartily recommend to anyone.

marykitty · 05/10/2021 10:06

DH is right, they do a shitty job and in my experience they are also more prone to have issues.....

Cookiecrumblepie · 05/10/2021 10:06

Ooh no I disagree! I used to think washer dryers couldn’t possibly work but I bought one and it has honestly changed my life. Has never broken down or given me any trouble. I am still amazed that I can throw in a bunch of dirty clothes and they come out perfectly clean and dry. I have a Hoover one, cheaper than the one you’re looking at. Buy one!

SylvanasWindrunner · 05/10/2021 10:06

Yes, every washer dryer I've used has been shite. Can't do a full load, clothes come out damp and creased. Definitely separate - much better when you are doing multiple loads too

MumDad1958 · 05/10/2021 10:06

I am a massive fan of my washer/dryer. I got one 3 years ago & it's the best buy I have ever made. I wash/dry everything - bedding, towels, clothes etc. No more hanging on clothes horses or on radiators. I would totally recommend you get one.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/10/2021 10:06

If you have space for two, why wouldn't you have one of each? Mine are often running at the same time. And the dryer takes less clothes.

I can understand if you only have space for one.

edwinbear · 05/10/2021 10:07

I've bought two Bosch washer dryers over the past 5 years or so, which cost £££. The drier functionality broke after a year on both. I'd not buy another one.

SirChenjins · 05/10/2021 10:07

Your DH is right (that was hard to type)

pointythings · 05/10/2021 10:07

I've never yet met a washer dryer that dries well. Your DH is right.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 05/10/2021 10:07

@Magnoliamarigold

DH was actually like: Put it to mumsnet and show me. Now I might have to admit defeat
I think you will...we had one once & it never dried properly. Also you can't put on a second load while the first one is drying.

Never again!

Which one do you have?

Hag obe for 5 years and it’s pretty good. I don’t use the drier much though because most of my clothes seem to be made of material that can’t be tumble dried and also it’s bad for the environment.

Lightningrain · 05/10/2021 10:11

We had one when we lived in a small house and we never used the dryer as it was rubbish. We just had clothes on airers all the time which I really hated.

Whycangirlsbesonasty · 05/10/2021 10:11

John Lewis own brand. Paid £800-ish 10 years ago. I pay no attention to how heavy the washing is, just fill the drum 3/4s full set it off and 5 hours later out pops clean and dry washing.

UndeadSlut · 05/10/2021 10:12

I have one in my rented house as that's what it came with, there isn't space for both machines.
He's right, they don't dry as well as a dedicated machine, plus it's not as efficient because you can't wash one load whilst another is drying!
I tend to wash a load, then take out jeans, printed t-shirts, and other things that I don't want to risk, and put them on an airer, then dry what's left in the drier. Best way I've found.

Also I don't know if it's just mine, (a hoover model) but it seems noisier. Doesn't help that my kitchen (where the machine lives) and living room are open plan but I'm sitting here now and the noise is ridiculous.

ComDummings · 05/10/2021 10:13

I’m sorry to say it but your DH is right Shock

SirChenjins · 05/10/2021 10:13

Which one do you have?

Love that - 'DH, I am NOT wrong, YOU are wrong' Grin

Dbank · 05/10/2021 10:13

I agree Washer/drier are best avoided, unless you are completely stuck for space.

Obs the other advantage in separate units is you can use both at the same time.

MagnoliaBeige · 05/10/2021 10:14

Sorry your DH is right on this one

Whatagreytdoggo · 05/10/2021 10:15

I've got a washer dryer, it's awful. We've also bought a separate dryer. Wouldn't have one again.

He is definitely 100% right. Sorry.

5 hoursShock?!!! I could have washed and dried at least 3 loads in that time. Probably ironed some and put it away too
