AIBU Facebook is down!

No fb for over an hour now, literally just realised how much I am on there, hopefully this helps to let go a bit.

Pick up the phone or use Skype

Phoning is expensive. Skype is practically gone in favour of Teams. Hard to use them as a form of communication if nobody else is signed up to them.

I'm really struggling without WhatsApp.

I'm an emetophobe and my 3yo is puking. My usual outlets (I have a few lovely, kind family and friends who understand my issue) and they would be my first port of call via WhatsApp

DP isn't here either.

I am in similar boat. This is time for chat with family and mates. My family is abroad so no texting. Ww have skype but mum doesn't have it on a phone

Maskless I lived a long time before Facebook and WattsApp too but while I won't die it's a nuisance they are down as it's how I communicate with friends and family now and I'm in a few WattsApp groups.

BTW you can also use Telegram or Line. They're alternative messaging apps if you need to get in touch with people and are avoiding paying for calls/texts.

Yes.

They are on the helpline to server support and are currently on hold listening to lift music.

When they get through, it will be to someone on a dodgy line with a really strong accent that they can't quite understand.

And when they do understand what the server support guy is saying, its 'have you tried switching it on and off' and they take them through the entire script for 45 mins, before suddenly getting cut off without a resolution, at which point they have to start all over again.

Then have to ask for a manager because the service guy is so dreadful. And have another 45 min wait, with the service guy occassionally picking up to say 'would you still like to hold?'

Then the manager says, 'i'm sorry, thats not my department you have to call DNS support'.

Many small businesses (like mine) use Facebook to advertise their products and services and receive messages from customers, it's not just people posting selfies and pics of their dinner

Please tell me they weren't all WFH and then have had a mad dash to the office to try and sort out the mess only to find there isn't a key holder between them!

They closed the door, locked it, then lost the key. The spare key is in some data centre somewhere in the World and they need to track down where that is and the person knows how to use it.

Is that a non-tech way of putting it when their DNS and routes to the servers have vanished.

If I was a huge company and had had some recent bad press, I might want to remind people how heavily they relied on the company ! Not saying that is what has happened at all by the way, probably just down to some random tech thing.
