To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

We still have all our petrol stations empty, there has been the odd delivery but all the pumps have empty signs very quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be on the news anymore, are we just accepting that this is how we now live?

How do you know that it’s panic buying that’s causing the problems in the SE? I find it hard to believe it’s just that. If you want to buy fuel round here you have to have several hours to spare so you can tour all the garages and then if you find one with fuel, queue for ages. I certainly wouldn’t do that just to top up my tank a bit (in fact I haven’t but I now have only about 70 miles left in my tank so I’m starting to get a bit concerned). According to fb several of the garages on the other side of our town had deliveries late this evening, so I hope it is getting better (the ones nearest to us are all dry though).

You might be sensible but not everyone else is, that’s the problem. It’s just a never ending roll of the ball when it’s in the media. It’s needs to be out of the media to get back to normal.

I am in the East Midlands .. i got fuel.on the way home from work. I didn't queue in fact i was the only one there.

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/10/2021 00:08

Because it seems to be a SE issue and the country doesn't start and end in the SE.

This week has been a horrendous week for women. Utterly terrifying. The petrol issue will be resolved soon. Rampant misogyny within the public sector is here to stay. It affects 50% of the population. No petrol in the SE affects those who can't use public transport in the SE

Personally I'm picking my battles.

Derbee · 04/10/2021 01:11

All of our fuel stations are open, and there aren’t really queues most of the time. No issues at all getting fuel

Jouleigh · 04/10/2021 01:15

@Confiscatedpopit

SE… too much money (for some) and too little worries. More likely to panic buy.

Northerners- not enough £ to stock up and more likely to worry about actual problems.

Horrific generalisation but surely a grain of truth there…

Horrific is right.
ThinWomansBrain · 04/10/2021 01:18

I was driving in central and SE London yesterday - probably ten petrol stations, none appeared to be closed, the only ones with queues were supermarket ones where fuel is a few pence cheaper.

Saw a news report from the area where I'd been driving late last nigh claiming it was still a big problem. Focussing media attention on the issue only seems to make morons go out simply to fill their tank again.

Wannabegreenfingers · 04/10/2021 03:58

All the news was/is making the situation worse

checkedcloth · 04/10/2021 06:19

Christ there is some hostility here. MN never used to be like this?

Anyhow for the likes of @JemimaPiddleDick and co. This isn’t driven by a sense of entitlement, I’m just very worried about how I get to work.

I’m a nurse so WFH not an option, and many people rely on me to be in work, not at least our patients.

The fact that areas of the UK have this concern does feel newsworthy to me, in that I’d feel the same if this was the case in Cumbria or Lancashire for example.

When did we all get so shitty with each other?

Well observed checkedcloth! What I find interesting about this and similar discussions is that generally the media and parts of the general public are at fault. Never the government.

Doris86 · 04/10/2021 07:11

@Cadent

So people are supposed to lie and say they were able to get petrol?

This just smacks of ‘shut up southerners’.

To be honest if people did lie and say they were able to get petrol, then it would ease the panic and help improve the situation. This whole situation has been created by panic buying, rather than any actual significant shortage of fuel.
checkedcloth · 04/10/2021 07:31

@SantiagoSky completely agree. This government has managed to get us blaming each other and hurling insults for wanting to have enough petrol to get to work.

Brainwashing at it’s finest.

God forbid if you wanted some fuel to go somewhere frivolous like a day out with you family

NumberNineTwo · 04/10/2021 07:33

I’d forgotten about it. It’s not an issue for most parts of the country.

Doris86 · 04/10/2021 07:35

No one is blaming anyone for wanting petrol to get to work, or any other reason they genuinely need petrol. They are blaming all those morons who panicked and filled their tanks to the brim when they didn’t need to, and wouldn’t normally have done so.

londonrach · 04/10/2021 07:36

Think most places are ok now ... certain ly where I am is no problem. Just London and soymouth east that still problems

Upsielazy · 04/10/2021 07:39

Still seems to be all over the news and social media? It's calmed down here now, the local garage was saying that there deliveries were the same as always but demand had risen 4 fold which meant them closing early every day, and the cycle continuing. Hopefully there's going to be more planning for deliveries now do places that haven't been getting their usual can get some.

Doris86 · 04/10/2021 07:41

Indeed, although it doesn’t stop people on my local Facebook group excitedly posting ‘I managed to get fuel at Asda today, and no queue’. Then several people reply to say it’s been like that for days. Some people do seem to automatically assume there is still an issue, where if they actually went looking for petrol they would find it easily.

Hopefully things will improve in London and SE soon too.

CrispyCold · 04/10/2021 07:52

Bloody hell. So lying and saying we got petrol will make petrol magically appear in places? I’m in the SE and filled my car the first Friday this news broke because how things go with this government, I knew we’d be in trouble. I haven’t filled up since then, only used 1/4 of the tank but all petrol stations around are going through stages of sometimes only having diesel and sometimes only having petrol. so obviously people will travel to a station where they’ll find fuel, and queues will build up.

I know a brexiteer who tried to fill up the other day and blamed everyone for being greedy 🙄.

Bunnycat101 · 04/10/2021 08:08

Still a problem near me. Husband got fuel on Saturday and I should have gone then as there are closures at my local ones. Interestingly the most reliable seem to be the supermarket chains.

lioncitygirl · 04/10/2021 08:10

I mean - we’re in the SE. Didn’t have any for a week. I think the less people that bang on about it, the less panic there will be. It’s been sensationalised to such a degree that idiots panic bought. I think after today it should be a lot better (we got some late last night - we are in London)

FanGirlX · 04/10/2021 08:15

It is still being talked about OP, it's still in the press. However it's now a localised problem, rather than a National problem, so isn't headlines anymore.

YouTubeAddict · 04/10/2021 08:18

We had no problem getting any yesterday. This is in the south west.

What has being a brexiteer got to do with this? As long as they themselves genuinely needed the fuel then they are correct, it’s been caused by others greed/stupidity/panic.
WhoWearsShortShorts · 04/10/2021 08:20
@Evenstar we are SE too. I have one more round trip to work left in my car. No idea what I am going to do after tomorrow.
Get up early and join the queue

RampantIvy · 04/10/2021 08:21

It definitely is still a problem in the South East. I hope that those of you who need fuel can find some.
