To have asked DH to buy my youknows?

Is it unreasonable able to ask a man to buy youknows when they are going out to the shop anyway? It’s not an extra trip, to buy whilst already there?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 02/10/2021 09:38

I think a PP had it right. This is a twee euphemism to disguise the fact that women menstruate. God forbid anyone should actually know this. It’s disgusting and we should be ashamed.
Only that’s bollocks. And continuing to use the twee euphemism only reinforces this idea. For the sake of the next generation it’s time to stop this.

flossletsfloss · 02/10/2021 09:39

Of course he can. I regularly get mine to pick them up. I've even sent my DH out to get thrush treatment. 🤣

ramonaquimby · 02/10/2021 09:39

christ.
the schoolyard bullies are out in force this morning.

flossletsfloss · 02/10/2021 09:40

I agree the bullies are out. Ignore them OP. You asked a question. You got answers...ignore all the righteous ones!!

Neonplant · 02/10/2021 09:41

Sorry yeah I think it's really worrying a grown woman can't write or say the word tampon. But not unreasonable to ask him to buy them.

clary · 02/10/2021 09:41

@ImaginaryCat

The difference with calling the TV remote the doofer, is because that's just a daft word. Whereas 'you knows' obviously stems from saying "you know what" because your mother thought menstruation was a dirty and shameful thing that shouldn't be mentioned.

And now by continuing this ridiculous habit, you're perpetuating that shame. Please tell me you don't have daughters. Or sons. A guinea pig would be fine.

Yes, this. It's not embarrassing but the language you use suggests that it is, OP. You don't say if you have children, but if you do, please talk about sanitary protection, or pads, or tampons.

This is not the language police at all, I promise.

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 02/10/2021 09:41

My partner has always picked up my tampons if he sees any as the orange Tampax are hard to come by locally. In fact, since I've been using a mooncup, he's still bought me around 4-5 packs because he forgets I don't need them. He's a grown adult man buying a product, nothing more to it than that.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 02/10/2021 09:41

You can call them want you like OP but when you come onto a forum where no one knows what your mum called tampons you do need to use the correct terminology Confused

clary · 02/10/2021 09:41

Meant to ask, why do you ask OP? Did he object? Or does someone else think it's shocking?

dworky · 02/10/2021 09:41

You can't even use the correct name.
Never mind DH, you need to get over your misogynist shame of menstruation before you pass it on to your children.

EnidFrighten · 02/10/2021 09:42

Get some period pants, then you won't be buying anything regularly. Of course you'll need to build an underground cellar to dry them where no one can see

thelastgoldeneagle · 02/10/2021 09:42

No, of course it's not. Does your p think it is?

noblegreenk · 02/10/2021 09:42

@MysweetAudrina

Well if you are too embarrassed to type the word, you can't really complain about him being too embarrassed to buy them for you.
This!
Winecrispschocolatecats · 02/10/2021 09:43

Still crying at "youknows" 😂😂😂.

Thankfully those days are over for me, but DH has often purchased tampons and other sanitary products for me in the past, and will do so again for DC. My dad used to buy them for me when I was a kid. It's totally normal.

westcountryboy · 02/10/2021 09:43

@PlonkyWillyWonky

You call them whatever you are comfortable calling them *@FrankieDobie*, it's really nobody else's business
It is if you start a thread about it. Jeez, she's not a child.

Calling tampons a ridiculous name and wondering if it's ok to send a grown man to buy them.

Ridiculous.

Notimeforaname · 02/10/2021 09:43

What are naughty cream biscuits???🤣

Naunet · 02/10/2021 09:43

Of course it’s not unreasonable, it’s just part of doing the shop. I couldn’t stand any man who refused to buy them for some pathetic, likely misogynistic reason.

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2021 09:44

@KaptainKaveman

You showed him a picture? Grin how hilarious!

Dh gets them sometimes for the dds. Why are you embarrassed about it OP? do you pass your innate sense of shame onto your dc as well? Hmm

Showing a photo is really sensible, given the range of tampons on sale at most large supermarkets and the size of the boxes and the print. Knowing the exact colour of the box he's looking for would speed the process up immeasurably.
MrsSkylerWhite · 02/10/2021 09:44

What are YouKnows?

Doomscrolling · 02/10/2021 09:44

@FrankieDobie the reason you are getting called out on your cutesy euphemism for tampons is that it comes from a place of misogyny and revulsion. That menstruation and anything to do with it is not to be referred to, it’s that messy secret women should keep quiet about.

Words matter in society. Women not being able to name and describe their experiences is an issue even now. Period shaming is still an issue for many young women.

So when there are cutesy words for the things we need, why wouldn’t we say something?

Then again, I’m on my special lady time with Aunt Flo visiting and I’m down to my last you know, so as it’s that time of the month I might be a bit tetchy.

grapewine · 02/10/2021 09:45

@Notimeforaname

What are naughty cream biscuits???🤣
I want to know as well, so I can buy some!
Notimeforaname · 02/10/2021 09:45

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Doomscrolling · 02/10/2021 09:46

(And yes, I always send a photo because I want the large box of the green Super ones with the cardboard - not plastic - applicator)

WellLarDeDar · 02/10/2021 09:46

'youknows'? .. reallllyyy??

Normally I'd say it's completely fine for partners/husbands to pick up sanitary items for ladies. What about single fathers who have teen daughters?

But if you're too embarrassed to say tampon then you're only feeding into the embarrassment and I don't blame him for being too embarrassed to get them for you.

Youknows is so cringey. I feel so cringey right now.

TAMPON!!!!!!

PernickitySnicket · 02/10/2021 09:48

I'd say anyone you're willing to have sex with should be mature enough to deal with standard bodily functions.
Too young to buy tampons - too young for sex.
