To have asked DH to buy my youknows?

Is it unreasonable able to ask a man to buy youknows when they are going out to the shop anyway? It’s not an extra trip, to buy whilst already there?

OP posts:
Workinghardeveryday · 02/10/2021 11:13

Can’t get over how what the op called tampons has annoyed some people so much!!

In our house the are pads, tampons. Dp however will happily go to the shop and buy them, wouldn’t bat an eyelid - he however calls them jam rags.

Can’t wait for the backlash from this post 😂

Macncheeseballs · 02/10/2021 11:14

Eeuuughh, have you got daughters

TimeForTeaAndG · 02/10/2021 11:16

What did your DH say when you asked him to buy them though? From your title I'd assume he said no?

aprilshowers2015 · 02/10/2021 11:16

We used to have a code for my mums shopping list, because I couldn't bare the thought of a piece of paper on the side saying tampons and sanitary towels. They were party hats and sugar mice 😂😂
DH bought mine for post-labour, I think he enjoyed looking for biggest and most absorbent ones possible!

YourFinestPantaloons · 02/10/2021 11:18

@TurnipTales

My partner calls tampons cunt plugs.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Macncheeseballs · 02/10/2021 11:20

So the jam rags/cunt plugs gang, what do you do when your daughters start their periods?

YourFinestPantaloons · 02/10/2021 11:22

It seems the OP is only 39 and a grandma.

Methinks some more open conversations about things like periods would have come in handy for the family. If tampons are 'YouKnows' I wonder what 'sex' is?

longtompot · 02/10/2021 11:22

Anyway, despite what you call them @FrankieDobie was he complaining about buying them for you? I'd have to be very specific with my dh about what I use and have to WhatsApp him photos, but he would have no issue with buying them for me.

Lulu1919 · 02/10/2021 11:23

My husband would and did ...no problem

I have a son. When he is old enough to ask me what tampons and pads are, I will tell him. It's not a big deal. My partner says silly and immature things sometimes to get a laugh and that's ok too.
Darkchocolateandcoffee · 02/10/2021 11:28

YOUKNOWS????

I think it was more that despite knowing none of us would have a clue what she was on about, she still couldn't bring herself to use the word tampons. I only opened the thread because I thought youknows were some delicious treat I have yet to discover Grin
SirHonkers · 02/10/2021 11:57

I used to buy my ex-wifes tampons/pads all the time. It's no different to me than buying toilet roll. Funnily enough my ex was completely incapable of buying condoms due to her being embarrassed about buying them. I'll never understand why people get squeamish about buying things that are used for normal bodily functions/purpose.

Workinghardeveryday · 02/10/2021 11:58

@Macncheeseballs I have 2 daughters and a son. Dd15 started her periods when she was 12. She has no idea what dp calls sanitary products. She will happily ask him to buy them just as she would a pint of milk. She will even whinge to him if he buys regular instead of super flow tampons.

He has many other names for them to, but
I have to say @TurnipTales - excellent!! That is the best name ever!!!!

@MilduraS oh I see sorry 😊.

Just told him about cunt plug, he thought it was fantastic 😂

Macncheeseballs · 02/10/2021 11:59

Turniptales, ah so no young impressionable females in the house, that explains it

Workinghardeveryday · 02/10/2021 11:59

I don’t understand why any man would have a problem buying them - it’s obvious for a woman. What are they going to do with them? Shove them up their nose or arse?!!😂

blubberyboo · 02/10/2021 12:00

Well if you are too embarrassed to type the word, you can't really complain about him being too embarrassed to buy them for you

Came to say this. You are actually actively contributing to a mans embarrassment over the product because you are embarrassed yourself.

My flipping 9 year old son can talk about sanitary towels ffs

Workinghardeveryday · 02/10/2021 12:01

@Macncheeseballs but why would he son ever have to hear his daddy call them cunt plugs? I am thinking he won’t say cunt in front of him at anytime anyway! It’s just between the two adults - it’s funny!!

Fernando072020 · 02/10/2021 12:03

Dh brings mine home all the time🤷🏼‍♀️what's the big deal?

There was that one time he brought me home tenalady by accident 😆still makes me laugh

burritofan · 02/10/2021 12:03

Absolutely refuse to believe you’re old enough to get your period tbh

JustJustWhy · 02/10/2021 12:03

This made me smile. My Mum used to ask my Dad to get her some bunnies.

Macncheeseballs · 02/10/2021 12:05

I wouldn't like my dh calling them that, I wouldn't want my daughters to think they need to be called anything other than what they are, no euphemisms, no gross nicknames, it's all part of the shame/mocking culture surrounding menstruation

toomuchlaundry · 02/10/2021 12:08

Did he buy them?

Timeflyin · 02/10/2021 12:17

@EileenGC

What do you call them when asking a colleague at work for one in an emergency? I'd be very confused and weirded out by someone who didn't use the proper word in public. With your mum, go ahead, but it's a bit unreasonable to expect us all to understand 'youknows'? Because we don't know!
Except , you did know .. didn’t you? Does it really matter ?

Yes, this.
@Macncheeseballs
I agree with you, no they shouldn't be called gross names or euphemisms in front of children because it contributes to period shaming. But my partner would never say that in front of any child, male or female! It's between adults and we recognise that it's a harmless, juvenile joke.
