Accidentally filled up a full tank!

So annoyed with myself! I waited in the queue for ages, I was going to fill up £40 worth. Very hard to get hold of diesel, most places don't have it in my area except 2 petrol station.
There was a car infront of me so when I was filling up I couldn't see the screen where it would show how much is going in! I was trying to guess it and on top of that had my child in the car crying, not to mention the countless cars behind that are glaring!
To my horror I only went and filled up £70! I don't even need thAt much. Really annoyed with myself and hope I've not cost anyone to go without fuel!!

I think you’re overthinking this… and being massively over dramatic / stealthy boasty about how considerate you were planning to be

SunShinesBrightly · 28/09/2021 13:51

Well you’re a Dippy Dora aren’t you?
Nobody is mad at you. You can stop wringing your hands now.

At all our local petrol stations you can only put £30 in anyway. No chance of filling up accidentally.

DressBitch · 28/09/2021 13:52

I struggling to understand what you're trying to gain from this post...

Peanutsandchilli · 28/09/2021 13:52
Hmm
MrsFlinch · 28/09/2021 13:52

You’d be silly not just to fill up when you’ve got the chance rather than make an unnecessary trip later….where’s the sense in that?
Or is this just a “look how kind and thoughtful I am thinking of others” post?
You said yourself diesel has been hard to get hold of and you’d queued for ages, why after all that effort, would you only put half a tank in?

ElizaDarcysDeeds · 28/09/2021 13:52

How can another car block the screen so you can't see how much fuel you've put in? I thought pumps were specifically designed so that could't happen. Confused

marieantoinehairnet · 28/09/2021 13:52

I'd kill for diesel right now, yanbu

OnlyJoking1 · 28/09/2021 13:52

Doesnt sound accidental to me, unless you put petrol in instead of diesel.

If everyone just fills up all the cars will be full and the general mayhem will wane quickly.

If everyone just puts in what they need over and over again then it will carry on indefinitely. Some garages round here now automatically stop at £30. If it didn’t, there is nothing to be unrealistic about

Frazzled2207 · 28/09/2021 13:54

Unreasonable sorry

Dragon50 · 28/09/2021 13:54

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing TBF mine is usually just under £40 and usually fill just before red so maybe I’m underestimating how much it takes.

When I saw £55, in my shock I lost volume control!

Then Blush as everyone looked round to see why I swore.

I’m just warning - cost of petrol was rising pre-chaos.

Hulahula86 · 28/09/2021 13:55

I wouldnt worry I always fill mine right up can't be doing with the chore of going to the petrol station too often, if theres still queues when i do need to fill up on Friday (im right in the red but WFH this week) when I get to the pump ill fill my tank as usaul

PlonkyWillyWonky · 28/09/2021 13:57

@HopingForOurRainbowBaby

I'm filling mine up to full on Friday, and no it's not being selfish! I travel up to 60 miles a days doing my job. I do not need the stress I had the other day of trying to get to my calls with nothing in my fuel tank
But the OP said she didn't need to so it is selfish
DoofusRick · 28/09/2021 13:57

Ok

Confused
WhyMeLord · 28/09/2021 13:58

🤣🤣🤣

l consider myself a person with very few real problems in life but Christ even I wish I had headspace for this

knittingaddict · 28/09/2021 13:58

Don't be daft op. It smacks of faux humility and "aren't I naughty". I expect everyone to be filling up their tank when they finanlly get to the petrol station. It's the ones with additional petrol cans that I judge. This

idontlikealdi · 28/09/2021 13:59

🏅

RogueV · 28/09/2021 14:00

Ok then.

SenseleessThing · 28/09/2021 14:03

Careful now OP, it's a slippery slope you're going down, you'll be stealing bags of meat next.

HesterShaw1 · 28/09/2021 14:04

Riiiiiiiight Hmm

What is the purpose of this thread? It's like one of those FB posts where people say they paid for the fuel for the NHS angel behind them because it's only what anyone else would do, right? Now tell me how great I am.

If you want fuel, put fuel in your car and don't make a song and dance about it.

Buttons294749 · 28/09/2021 14:04

One if the things I shall not be sad to miss in the future when we 're all electric car drivers is the double and triple checking I've picked up the right pump. "Diesel, petrol petrol, pick up petrol DIESEL IS STILL DOWN, is petrol definitely in my hand? Yes then fill away" 🤣🤣🤣

HesterShaw1 · 28/09/2021 14:06

People are nuts at the moment. I know someone who only put a tenner in his car on Friday because he "wanted no part of the madness". Now he's stuck at home with no fuel. But hey, as long as he has the moral high ground, right?
