What to do about dog poo woman?

FrankieDobie · 25/09/2021 07:47

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

She could walk them elsewhere & leave the poo elsewhere, then it wouldn't be outside your house.

Hear hear whateveryousay! I live rurally and maybe that makes a difference. Most of us wouldn’t think twice about helping her.

ElevenBells · 26/09/2021 19:15

Ugh this is disgusting. And, being wolfhounds, I bet we’re talking some considerable turds. No way should you have to pick it up. Report her.

maybloss2 · 26/09/2021 19:18

Hi op, I know lots of people have hidden disabilities, but I do think she maybe using her age to get out of picking it up. If she can walk the dogs she must be fairly fit -I’d be inclined to be kind by buying her a long handled pooper scooper and some bags. It is good to be kind particularly when people get frail, but two large dogs regularly pooping outside your house is disgusting. No one would put up with it if it was a child, and the adult left their poop, why is it ok for other animals?

Wills · 26/09/2021 19:18

To anyone telling the op to be kind to an old lady! If she can’t control/take care of her dogs she shouldn’t have them. We react to older women having children over the age of 50 but we should also react to individuals who can’t meet the basic needs of an animal in our society!

GaryLurcher19 · 26/09/2021 19:20

"This. If she can’t pick up the shit she shouldn’t have dogs. Do you know where she lives. I’d pick it up and drop it off at her house."

All thoroughly unnecessary. Stop obsessing over this elderly woman.

Just call the bloody council. They have ultimate responsibility for clean streets. If they choose to pursue dog- owning octogenarians, they will. If they choose to exempt them, they will.

Either way, they must clean up and it's not OP's problem.

You clearly know fuck all about chronic illness/disability and, thankfully, have no say in this matter.

Just call the council, OP.

If OP lives anywhere near me I’d do it. I’ll even provide the poo bags. I live in a place where people would do it without even questioning it.“”

I live in a place where thankfully people generally care enough about their neighbours not to leave crap on the pavement.

If you can’t pick up shit, don’t keep a dog.

wildchild554 · 26/09/2021 19:26

@godmum56 I don't think you want to know what his dog does when she's caught short even when his friends are there they have to jump in quick. lol

Robgem81 · 26/09/2021 19:27

🤣🤣🤣 to be fair she probably has a point. One day if we ever make 86 maybe we would totally get where she is coming from! If she was 46 I'd definitely have something to say but she's 86 give the old girl a break.

StoneofDestiny · 26/09/2021 19:31

Likewise, and if their mess was pointed out to them they would be mortified not respond in an entitled way

catzrulz · 26/09/2021 19:34

@echt

Bollocks to that. Bag it up and drop it outside the house of the FB people who think you're out of order.
Exactly what I was going to say.
PetuniaT · 26/09/2021 19:37

Take photographs of the poo each time it happens and also take photographs of the dogs and send both to your local council. Photos of the dogs are more important than of the owner. They will then take it up with the owner when they have the evidence you supply. You are not being unreasonable in reporting her for the unpleasant nuisance she causes

whynotwhatknot · 26/09/2021 19:39

How does she control them if they decide they want to pull or run-its ridiculous if she cant pick up the poo she shouldnt have them or get a dogwalker

VK456 · 26/09/2021 19:40

If she’s able to walk and control two large dogs, she’s able to clean up after them. If she can’t control them, she shouldn’t be walking them.

Er, why?

“The old girl”?. My mum is nearly that old and she’s fitter than I am. She doesn’t leave dog shit everywhere, either
(In fact she’d chase the other “old girl” down the street and make her pick it up. She’s a lifelong animal lover and can’t tolerate irresponsible owners.)

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 26/09/2021 19:42

She’s not too old to walk two massive wolfhounds so she can pick up dog poo.

GaryLurcher19 · 26/09/2021 19:45

"In fact she’d chase the other “old girl” down the street and make her pick it up."

No need. Just call the council.

The desperate anger of some posters is a bit demoralising.

Get on with your lives.

NigellaSeed · 26/09/2021 19:50

Yanbu. Absolutely sick to tears of others people's pets shit!!!

Tilltheend99 · 26/09/2021 19:51

“Skyla2005
“burritofan
Shop her to the poo popo.

If she can’t bend down to pick up her dogs’ shit, she’s not able to have dogs. Owners don’t get to pick and choose which bits of dog ownership they take on.

Who are the 10% who think you’re BU?! The mad MN hound brigade?”

The dogs might be her only company would you really take that away from her just because she can't bend down ? That's wicked”

Who victimises a little old woman on a Facebook community page?! All these replies are depressing

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/09/2021 19:54

There’s nothing desperately angry about my brilliant mother, thanks GaryLurcher. She is the happiest person I know.

At 84, she just does not tolerate selfish, stand inconsiderate gits and tells them so, whatever age they are. One of the benefits of old age, don’t faff about and waste your time with a lacklustre council. Just tap the
offending person on the shoulder and say you just left shit (litter/chewing gum, whatever) on the pavement, please pick it up because it’s not acceptable to leave it there, is it?
The “is it?” usually evokes a “sorry, no”, and most pick up whatever they left there.

No need to be concerned for my mum’s temperament, thanks all the same.

Yummymummy2020 · 26/09/2021 19:56

I think if you own a dog you clean up after it and that’s it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/09/2021 19:56

“Victimises”?
“Little Old Woman”?

Oh, please. No-one victimises the handler of two wolfhounds. Don’t be an idiot.

She can’t be arsed.
