What to do about dog poo woman?

FrankieDobie · 25/09/2021 07:47

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

@Mindthesheep

I think it’s fine you asked her and Of course she should pick it up. There are lots of long handled dog poop picker uppers so no need to bend down. Poor excuse by her.
This - there is no excuse not to pick up. If she can't pick up, she shouldn't have such large dogs (or indeed, any dogs).

BTW, before anyone says I'm a dog hater, I have three dogs, all with healthy, very efficient bowels!. Until a couple of years ago, I had six. I'm 68 (which is admittedly not 80) with arthritis - and I pick up everything!

HarryBlaster · 26/09/2021 18:26

We had exact same problem with an elderly gent. Made a point of spraying lawn with nasty weed killer chemicals and telling him about it and he never came near lawn again.

Regularsizedrudy · 26/09/2021 18:26

@whateveryousay

Or just buy some poo bags, and be kind, and go and help her out on the occasion they poo outside your house? I imagine that the dogs are very important to her, and reporting an 86 year old woman to the dog warden, with the stress this could cause her, sounds awful!! No, it’s not your job, but would take seconds out of your day??
Haha fuck that. I’m not picking up other people’s dog shit l, get a grip
Plumtree391 · 26/09/2021 18:26
Buy her a present www.argos.co.uk/product/4909970
That is excellent.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 26/09/2021 18:28

If she can't bend down to pick up dog shit. How does she get dressed? How does she pull up her knickers, socks and trousers etc?

Christ alive. She’s walking the dogs, could live another 15+ years, she’s old not a saint.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2021 18:31

I actually can't believe what I'm reading in these replies. The amount of spiteful people on her is disgusting. She 86 for fucks sake her dogs must be her world. What the hell is wrong with people

I'm sure they are her world - but no 86 year old should have dogs this size. They are not a long-lived breed (about 8 years average), so at the most she has taken them on when she was 76. It's not as though they are (say) tiny yorkies which can easily manage a good 18 years, and she took them on when she was comparatively young.

She, a very elderly lady, has chosen large dogs, which produce large amounts of faeces (we had a great dane - believe me, I know what their output is!), and has selfishly decided that it's alright to leave excrement everywhere.

It is not fair - on non-dog owners, or on owners who clear up after their dogs, because we all get tarred with this "dirty" brush.

Report her.

LoisLane66 · 26/09/2021 18:34

I would never pick up anyone's dog shit nor would I buy them poo bags. If she can afford to feed the dogs she can afford poo bags. I wonder what her house is like inside. If she can't bend down it might be a right shit-hole.

GaryLurcher19 · 26/09/2021 18:37

This thread is bizarre.

There is no reason for OP to pick shit up or harass an old lady in the street.

OP simply needs to contact the council.

wildchild554 · 26/09/2021 18:40

@Harls1969 lol

StoneofDestiny · 26/09/2021 18:44

Her age is irrelevant. If she can't bend down to pick up her dogs shit, then she needs to either not have dogs or let them shut in her own garden.
She presumably has to put the dog food bowl on the floor for them to eat, same distance to bend down to pick up dog shit.

I'd be picking it up and dropping at her door with the message I'll do it each and every time it happens.

I don't see the problem with posting about a public nuisance on Facebook either - she clearly is advertising her hooligan ways in full view of the public anyway.

rookiemere · 26/09/2021 18:44

@notoldjustpastyoung not sure about the wisdom of getting an Irish Wolfhound to poo on a gutter. The poo would be so large it would presumably just sit on top, so not much better than being on the street.

wildchild554 · 26/09/2021 18:46

@Kanaloa one my friends has no sight and hasn't since birth, he can see light and dark but that's it so can differentiate between night and day. If you wave a hand right up in front of his face he will just see a dark shadow move across but unless told would have no idea what it was. I no he doesn't pick up after his dog but his friends help him with that as he's not usually out alone and other than that on short trips his guide dog tends to hold it. and does it when they get home where there is someone there able to pick it up for him. He doesn't go out for long on his own and where he does go everyone know him.

StoneofDestiny · 26/09/2021 18:47

Ugh - the very idea of picking up dog shit makes me 🤮. I don't own a dog and do not want any part of cleaning up their filth - that is the owners exclusive privilege.

Wheresthebeach · 26/09/2021 18:47

Report her. She either can’t bend down which means she’s incapable of taking care of the dogs or herself and needs help, or she’s just using her age as an excuse. In either case those are large dogs spreading a lot of pooh on the streets and it’s not acceptable.

FreshFreesias · 26/09/2021 18:51

I actually think it’s heroic that a tiny elderly woman is walking 2 wolfhounds.

StoneofDestiny · 26/09/2021 18:53

The woman just sounds obnoxious. Her response to the OP was arrogant and entitled.
If she can walk two large dogs she's hardly infirm - and even if she was I'd not want her dog shit at my front door.

FreshFreesias · 26/09/2021 18:53

If it was me I’d pick up after her.
First world problems!
Live and let live!

WorraLiberty · 26/09/2021 18:56

86, 4 feet high and walks two enormous Irish Wolfhounds? Hmm

At least she'd be easy to spot I suppose...

Bobsyer · 26/09/2021 18:57

@SoloISland

Some terrible posts here. Sad. Not reading any more. Shocking
Alright Donald off you pop then.

YANBU OP.

If I wanted to pick up dog shit I would own my own dog - there is not a chance in hell I’d be doing this for her. I don’t care if she’s ancient I don’t care if she doesn’t have family. Being old and alone doesn’t actually give a person carte blanche to behave like a dickhead in a public space.

I agree with @icedcoffees Having a pet is a privilege, not a right

GaryLurcher19 · 26/09/2021 19:00

Just contact the council, OP.

None of us need to care less what this woman does...we only need to let the council know that there is shit to collect.

Please stop obsessing over the individual and focus on the person.

guide dogs are taught to go on request. Odd times they will get caught short but msostly if their feed and empty routine is maintained, it works.

Fuck this for a game of soldiers! If she's capable of owning two big dogs, she's capable of picking of their shit.

Your idea is beyond ridiculous.

Mothersister · 26/09/2021 19:01

@NapoleonOzmolysis

Report her to the dog warden.
This. If she can’t pick up the shit she shouldn’t have dogs. Do you know where she lives. I’d pick it up and drop it off at her house.
GettingItOutThere · 26/09/2021 19:06

irish wolfhounds are huge, and do not live that long, she would be well into her 70's assuming even these dogs are old, when she got them. Therefore knew what she was taking on

report her, its bollocks to let her get away with it 86 or 26 it isnt on
