Just back from putting air in the car tyres and the queue into the forecourt for fuel was ridiculous.

Appreciate it doesn't help that the news bulletins start with" BP closes some petrol stations" and that nobody hears beyond this to "Asda, Morrisons and other supermarkets are saying they have no problems, as have other petrol companies.”

Just stop it.
@Tableflowerss "not sure what vet shortage has to do with Brexit". Eh,have you not. heard of staff shortage everywhere?I really dont know what needs to happen for the Brexiteers to realise they voted for a lie!we all knew, they are not the sharpest knifes in the box😀.
Not really sure you’re in a position to describe a group of people as “not sharpest knives in the box”, judging by the errors in your paragraph…..

TableFlowerss · 24/09/2021 18:05

So there are 8384 petrol stations in the UK and only 100 have experienced a problem with deliveries 🙄🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Yet here we are…:

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/09/2021 18:14

I had to put a small amount of petrol in yesterday because I didn't have enough to drive to meet a friend for lunch then collect my youngest from nursery.

Today was pay day so I filled my tank up to the top as I always do on payday.

When you drive a car you need petrol and when you need petrol you need it to go about your daily life, panic buying or no panic buying.

Same with the toilet rolls, we always get some in bulk so when it all kicked off we didn't need any but if you need some you need some. People piling their trollies full were ridiculous but the panic buying does get to people, even I was a bit worried about there not being any for when we ran out and did buy a small pack when we hadn't run out completely because the shelves were still mostly empty so I grabbed the opportunity whilst I could. In hindsight it wasn't necessary, by the time we had used the 2 from the original pack the shelves were back to normal but I fell for the frenzy and didn't know when things would be stocked up again.

Is it possible to over buy petrol though? There is only so much a car will fit in and it's not the kind of thing you can shove under the bed or in a cupboard.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 18:15

I love how they ask the petrol panic buyers in a massive queue asking why they are panic buying petrol !! Because they need fuel ..
It gives the news people fodder I suppose on a sunny autumn day.

I completely agree. They’ve blown the whole thing up out of proportion, as per, now it’s going to actually be an issue on the back of their shit reporting. It’s terrible.

Talia99 · 24/09/2021 18:27

@Blossomtoes, for more wide ranging ambulance services, that isn’t possible. It might be the case in big cities but in more rural areas, they use a fuel card at local stations. BP made a big thing about giving free petrol to ambulances early last year when COVID started.

Had priority last time there was a fuel shortage/strikes
I went to fill my car and realised garage said no fuel, guy came outside and told me to take a full tank then someone pulled up behind me and there was a big argument Blush as he wouldn't let him get any (I was emergency services at the time)
They did have some fuel but were only letting emergency services staff and vehicles have it

WTF0ver · 24/09/2021 19:07

So glad I'm WFH just now. I might take a wander past the local garage later to see if there's queues. Bunch of idiots panic buying whatever.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 19:28

Yes, DH is an ambulance driver, he has a card and just gets fuel at the local petrol station same as everyone else. Not particularly rural either. If they are prioritised that's good but they might also just be caught up in queues and traffic.

Exactly.

The big issue is people are too lazy to actually research the truth.

They rather panic over click bait headlines.

BP shut 5 garages.

In the whole Uk.

Why did anything think that meant everyone would have no fuel Confused

Curerofsouls · 24/09/2021 20:28

I kind of think that if I haven't got petrol I can't get to work but TBH if it happened the world wouldn't end. I certainly dont feel panicked.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/09/2021 22:20

Traffic chaos on a road with petrol stations on both sides. Though the queue did move quickly. (I did need to fill up)

LetterFox · 25/09/2021 07:39

Why did anything think that meant everyone would have no fuel
Because of the reporting. They knew that panic buying would follow such reporting. They panic buy because of the threat of panic buying. No-one should be allowed to fill canisters (so dangerous to store). Ironically, this with their 4x4 gas guzzlers are now disadvantaged. Way to encourage e-car buying I suppose. We have a tiny car that doesn't run on much.

AlexaShutUp · 25/09/2021 07:48

It's tricky isn't it? I had to go to multiple different garages to find petrol yesterday. I wasn't concerned in the morning when I had 25+ miles to go, but by the time I actually managed to find fuel, I was down to just 3 miles and I was really anxious that I would run out altogether.

The consequence of this is obviously that I'm going to fill up much earlier next time because I can't risk being in that situation again. That will only contribute to the problem, I suppose, but I imagine most people will make the same calculation.

PlonkyWillyWonky · 25/09/2021 08:16

Well that will teach me not to be a lazy arse
Meant to get petrol on Tuesday, then Wednesday, then Thursday.......
As long is I have enough petrol to get to the nearest hospital I feel conformable
Let's leave it for those who really need it

FreeBritnee · 25/09/2021 08:23

Yeah that’s right. Who needs to go to work anymore?

Theoldwrinkley · 25/09/2021 17:49

I needed to fill up yesterday. Chap in front of me filled his tank for the princely sum of £2.50. Before I reset the gauge to zero to fill my car (spent nigh on £70) the previous occupant had paid £3.....OK, I didn't see it....it may have been a petrol can for his mower. The more the gvnmt say 'don't panic', the worse it will be. It is like if Boris (or Theresa or David or Gordon or Tony) expresses 'complete confidence' in a politician, you know their days are numbered.

tiredanddangerous · 25/09/2021 18:11

I've had to cancel my weekend plans so that I have enough petrol to get to work on Monday. Fucking idiots buying fuel they don't need Angry

Roxy69 · 25/09/2021 20:51

We need to blame the media. If there is plenty of petrol why did they announce anything leading to panic buying. It just goes to show how controlling they are with their own agendas.
