To ask cleaner if they've been vaccinated?

daisiesandpeonies · 22/09/2021 12:44

I am keen to have a cleaner again, my pre-pandemic cleaner is refusing to have the covid vaccine (I know this because we are friends on Facebook and she's constantly posting conspiracy theories.) I felt it would be more respectful to just discreetly get a new cleaner than tell her I'll only ask her back if she gets vaccinated. However how do I tell an agency that I'd only like a vaccinated cleaner? Are they even allowed to ask, so should I?

Life is so depressing now.

OldEvilOwl · 22/09/2021 12:46

No it's none of your business to be honest

PurpleDaisies · 22/09/2021 12:47

Where is your cleaner cleaning that you’re in close contact?

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/09/2021 12:47

You can ask but they don't have to tell and you can't require anyone to tell you.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/09/2021 12:48

Have you been unable to have the vaccine, op?

PurpleDaisies · 22/09/2021 12:48

I wonder how many more ways we can come up with to punish people for not getting vaccinated?

I’m double vaccinated and hugely pro vaccination. This is getting a bit bonkers now.

daisy46 · 22/09/2021 12:48

YABU. I hate this trend of people thinking they have the right to other people's private medical information. You wouldn't be able to ask about their TB status or HIV tests, so why is it that Covid is fair game?

If you really feel at risk, stay home and don't have a cleaner.

Shitapillar · 22/09/2021 12:49

If you're so worried, you could always just clean your own shit up.

VainAbigail · 22/09/2021 12:50

Are you a risk to the cleaner? Is that why you’d prefer someone who’s had the vaccine?

Tryingtryingandtrying · 22/09/2021 12:50

Perhaps soon they will tattoo vaccinated people with a little sign so that everyone knows they are safe.

I like this answer! 😆
LaikO · 22/09/2021 12:51

I wouldn't disclose my vaccination status in that situation, YABVU. In fact, I won't unless it's absolutely needed (e.g. Travel abroad, not that I plan on that anytime soon).

LST · 22/09/2021 12:51

YABU and ridiculous

Nah. They’ll give the unvaccinated a bell to ring to warn others to keep away and throw rotten food at them from a COVID safe distance.
DartmoorChef · 22/09/2021 12:51

What difference does it make to you if anyone else is or isn't vaccinated. The vaccine only protects the vaccinated person from possibly developing more serious symptoms... it doesn't protect you whatsoever.

onelittlefrog · 22/09/2021 12:52

You can ask. But they can either refuse to tell you or just lie and say they have (unless you are asking for a certificate).

To be honest, it seems a bit pointless.

a) you don't know whether they will actually have been vaccinated even if you ask
and b) Even if they have been vaccinated, it doesn't stop them from bringing Covid into your home. Vaccinated people can and do still get and spread Covid.

We have decided not to have a cleaner because we don't want any increased risk. I think you just have to decide one way or the other really because people aren't reliable or always truthful, and vaccination is not a failsafe anyway.

FinallyFluid · 22/09/2021 12:52

None of your beeswax.

Completely agree. It’s utter madness. I’m having lunch with some very old friends next week - all vaccinated - and some bright spark reckons we should all do PRB tests first. Just fuck off, love.

This isn’t true. People who have been vaccinated are still less likely to catch COVID, and if they haven’t got it they can’t pass it on.

That doesn’t mean the op has any right to ask.

TheNatureOftheCatastrophe · 22/09/2021 12:53

If she's spreading conspiracy theories on Facebook there's no way that that conversation will go well.

Unless you're ECV and going to be j the house while she cleans the additional risk will be negligible. That said, I wouldn't want to hire a conspiracy theorist (I ruled out a couple of local handymen for being evangelical Scientologist) so I'd look elsewhere.

Yerroblemom1923 · 22/09/2021 12:54

Yabu. If you're double jabbed you're safe, what does it matter about the cleaner? S/he's at more risk than you..... what's the problem?

Brigittebidet · 22/09/2021 12:54

I am so heartened by these responses. Sorry for you OP as they are harsh, but they are quite correct. Are you going to ask about your cleaner’s tetanus, MMR etc status as well?

ColorMagicBarbie · 22/09/2021 12:54

If it's due to you working in an environment where you could easily catch and transmit it to the cleaner, then you could just let them know up front.

I'm assuming it must be this as having the vaccine only protects them and doesn't mean they can't pass it to you.

cloudacious · 22/09/2021 12:55

I think it's an entirely reasonable request during a global pandemic and does affect your health since vaccination reduces transmission.

You can advertise for a vaccinated cleaner.

VelvetChairGirl · 22/09/2021 12:57

according to the CDC vaccines dont stop you catching or passing on Delta or Mu.
