To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

I only shower every 3rd day. Excessive showering is bad for your skin, as it strips out all of the natural oils. The NHS recommends only 2 showers a week for optimum care of your skin!

LukeEvansWife · 21/09/2021 15:31

I think the skin care element is separate to the potential smelling.

You could have beautiful skin and stink to high heaven! Depends what matters to you, I guess

EmeraldShamrock · 21/09/2021 15:46

That great you've a good support system SDTG.

wink1970 · 21/09/2021 16:03

It's not rocket science.

I didn't say it was. Confused

There was a thread on here a while back where loads of people admitted they don't ever actively wash their legs & feet even when they do shower and it fits with this theme today.

Cheesepuff1 · 21/09/2021 16:05

@AnnieSnap I assure you, sweaty unwashed vaginas healthy or not still have a strong smell. not fishy ..but pungent none the less.

PattyPan · 21/09/2021 16:12

You aren’t smelling a ‘sweaty vagina.’ Your groin area can get sweaty but the vagina and labia minora don’t have sweat glands.

Cheesepuff1 · 21/09/2021 16:57

@PattyPan no need to be pedantic you know exactly what we are talking about

Macncheeseballs · 21/09/2021 16:59

Cheesepuff, surely not all vaginas have a strong smell

PattyPan · 21/09/2021 17:00

I actually don’t - I thought when people said vagina in general speech they meant the labia minora. The bit that’s getting sweaty is most likely to be the bit where the legs join the body.

Cheesepuff1 · 21/09/2021 17:04

@Macncheeseballs no one is going 2 days not showering and not having a strong smell.. is a hot moist area, with an amount of natural discharge along with coming into contact with urine & fecal particles . .

FrankieDobie · 21/09/2021 17:07

I shower twice a day, quick shower in a morning and quick shower in an evening. I can’t wake up properly in a morning without a shower and I can’t relax and get comfortable on an evening without having a shower first.

I don't shower every day but I don't smell because I wash with a bidet bottle, every time
(Mostly for UTI purposes but once you've started you don't want to go back to toilet paper only!)

PattyPan · 21/09/2021 17:12

@Cheesepuff1 A normal vagina will not have a strong smell after two days. If you are wiping yourself properly and changing underwear daily those things you mention are not an issue.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/09/2021 17:14

Every other day - I can’t be doing with drying my hair every day.

A ‘proper wash’ in between.

Obviously if I get very sweaty or dirty I’ll have a shower regardless.

blueskytoday06 · 21/09/2021 17:19

I shower every day and my hair too. I feel super gross if I don't. I sometimes shower twice a day too.

Lovinghannah · 21/09/2021 17:34

I do have a shower and I still have a strip wash sometimes.
Not every day.
But no one I know would know (or care) that sometimes I wash at the sink...

Lovinghannah · 21/09/2021 17:38

@Zwills

Ok so I'm sure this will get to some people as it seems so popular but why on earth would you strip wash and why haven't I heard of people doing this before? For private parts I use a bidet spray whenever I use the toilet, before that it was a small rinsing jug, I can't imagine just using toilet paper! I know not everyone has a shower but when I was a child we filled up a bucket with water in the bath (instead of filling up the whole bath) and used a plastic bath /rinsing jug to wash the soap off. Surely that's easier than standing next to the sink naked wiping yourself down?!

Why does everyone pussyfoot around this? Of course vulvas will smell after two days! Here:

What is Smegma? – A Definition
Smegma is a malodorous, opaque white or yellow substance composed of shed epithelial cells (dead skin) and sebum (oily secretions) produced by the sebaceous glands of male and female genitalia. It is found beneath the foreskin and glans penis in males and the folds of skin surrounding the clitoris in females.

LukeEvansWife · 21/09/2021 18:18

And everyone claims not to smell - I take the train daily and you can tell the soap dodgers

JustDanceAddict · 21/09/2021 18:21

Occasionally if I have a shower in the evening I won’t have my morning one, but I find I get a bit smelly by end of day 😆
I generally shower in the morning- it wakes me up and I like being fresh for the day.
I know someone who stinks, it’s vile, they obv don’t wash enough.

PattyPan · 21/09/2021 18:24

It is normal to get a little bit of smegma. It is not normal to have so much that after two days it can be smelt by passersby or leaves a smell in a loo cubicle you have left, though - I'd see a doctor if that is the case.

And please don't put soap on your vulva. It can disrupt the balance of good bacteria. Just use water when washing there.

LST · 21/09/2021 18:30

@LukeEvansWife

I can guarantee that's not after a day
LukeEvansWife · 21/09/2021 18:31

I don’t care - it’s rank

LST · 21/09/2021 18:34

@AnnieSnap

To those who keep raising the issue of a “fish smell”. This smell is a consequence of Bacterial Vaginosis. Despite the old misogynist jokes, a healthy women’s genitals do not have a strong smell and certainly not a fishy smell. Maybe an undiagnosed infection is why some of you smell (well you say you do) if you don’t shower daily. 🤷‍♀️
I camp a lot and most of it is 'wild' so only have soap, water and a flannel available. I can honestly say I've never smelt fishy!!!
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/09/2021 18:35

@LukeEvansWife - you have NO way of knowing whether the non-smelly people on your train have showered that morning. I don’t shower daily (for the reason I’ve given above), and I know my family would tell me if I smelled bad.

I am willing to bet that, if I sat next to you on a train, you wouldn't be able to tell whether or not I had showered that morning.

A good wash, a decent antiperspirant, and clean clothing mean I do not smell.
