To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

@Cheesepuff1

I shower every day (hair every other day) my main reason is the frequency of going into staff or public toilets and being absolutely grossed out by the smell in the air from dirty fanjos and having absolute fear of ever being like that.
I can honestly say I have never smelt anyone’s fanjo, clean or dirty - what sort of environment do you work it?
Cheesepuff1 · 21/09/2021 10:47

@LukeEvansWife I can smell it when u go in a loo straight after someone else comes out. in any loo I've ever been to.. ever in life. some just smell fairly neutral and some are gross.

I know what you mean Envy not envy!

EmeraldShamrock · 21/09/2021 10:50

I usually do.
I got a curly blow-dry yesterday so it was a sream-less sink scrub today.

I have a woman on a bus wearing a long skirt her legs man-spread. 🤢

CiaoForNiao · 21/09/2021 10:55

Some of you must have really sensitive noses! I don't have a sense of smell at all!

PattyPan · 21/09/2021 12:32

I have a good sense of smell but I’ve never smelt anyone’s bits in a loo before.

AnnieSnap · 21/09/2021 13:00

@LukeEvansWife

Those that say it’s unnecessary as you don’t sweat, what about in bed when we are all basically sharing our space with skin flakes, bed bugs etc?
I’d hope very few of us are sharing our beds with bed bugs!

I have already clarified I meant mites upthread.

LukeEvansWife · 21/09/2021 13:11

So you can specifically smell someone’s fanjo? I know the smell of someone who hasn’t washed for a day or so but what is the difference between those?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/09/2021 13:29

I shower every other day. On the non-shower days, I wash 'pits and bits', and wash my hair. I use a good antiperspirant, and a nice perfume, and I am sure I don't smell.

I have long covid at the moment, and doing this is easier and less tiring than having a shower. I get exhausted very easily, and having a shower wears me out completely - sometimes I even have to have a rest once I'm dry and dressed, before I go downstairs.

Charley50 · 21/09/2021 13:32

I don't shower everyday.

wink1970 · 21/09/2021 13:34

I'm interested in HOW people shower. I have a really quick routine:

  1. face wash onto dry face
  2. wet body then turn shower head towards wall
  3. lather all over with one of those net things
  4. Turn shower head back on to me & rinse off all

I can be in and out in a few minutes & have washed every bit, but DH is in for 15 minutes at a time!

Yes, same.

Boombadoom · 21/09/2021 13:42

Me too. That smell of raw fish is vile.

I don’t understand those that have a sink wash rather than a shower. Washing like that is more difficult, makes such a mess, surely hopping in the shower is much quicker and easier? I mean it’s literally designed for the job. A sink is not.

I also don’t feel like a sink wash gets me clean enough. Water running down your legs onto the floor, can’t rinse properly etc. Just get in the shower!

Wet body, hair tied up Antibac soap or hibiscrub for feet and armpits Entire body washed including legs etc with shower oil or gel and a shower puff thing Foaming body scrub all over Rinse Sanctuary wet skin gel Dry Face skincare done out of shower

Wet body, hair tied up
Antibac soap or hibiscrub for feet and armpits
Entire body washed including legs etc with shower oil or gel and a shower puff thing
Foaming body scrub all over
Rinse
Sanctuary wet skin gel

All this seems excessive to be doing every day. I just wet my body, lather up all over with my hands with good quality soap or shower gel/oil, rinse, dry, apply body lotion.

It's not rocket science.
  1. Turn on water and wait for it to get warm.
  2. Step into shower, and get hair and body wet.
  3. Shampoo hair.
  4. Rinse hair.
  5. Put conditioner on hair.
  6. (Optional, every few days) Shave legs and underarms.
  7. Use bar soap to wash body.
  8. Rinse off conditioner and soap.
LukeEvansWife · 21/09/2021 14:01

I can get showered, wash my hair and body, dry myself and get dressed and out the door in 15 minutes

EmeraldShamrock · 21/09/2021 14:02

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I'm sorry to hear you've long covid. Flowers

season2 · 21/09/2021 14:06

At least once a day, always in the morning and often in the evening of I've exercised, it's hot or I'm going out. I also wash my face before bed every night. I don't wash my hair every day as it's quite a faff to style and also washed my colour out. I can make do with dry shaky on between washes and fortunately it still looks maintained.

NotMyCat · 21/09/2021 14:08

I sometimes skip the scrub, the sanctuary wet gel is a lotion The rest is just washing...

To those who keep raising the issue of a “fish smell”. This smell is a consequence of Bacterial Vaginosis. Despite the old misogynist jokes, a healthy women’s genitals do not have a strong smell and certainly not a fishy smell. Maybe an undiagnosed infection is why some of you smell (well you say you do) if you don’t shower daily. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you, @EmeraldShamrock. I think I'm probably a lot better off than many people with long covid - as long as I'm doing nothing, I feel OK - but I get tired and breathless very easily. Dh and ds3 are being marvellous, looking after me and doing all the cooking etc.
