So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

I'm positively murderous because I couldn't get my favourite quinoa or beluga caviar at Waitrose. Hmm

manquedutemps · 19/09/2021 13:44

@Cactu

How is saying we’ve been spoiled and now we need to get used to things being shit a good argument for brexit or anything else?
It's like saying worse is better Confused
subsy1 · 19/09/2021 13:44

On the upside of Brexit, many hedge fund managers have made huge profits. Not so fabulous for the rest of us.

I'm amazed that anyone can say "I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with Brexit.".

walksen · 19/09/2021 13:44

"
We have been spoilt in this country though though an abundance of brands and food that's cheaper than a lot of places"

So people voted for Brexit because we are too spoilt and wanted to change that?
I've heard it all now

ilovesooty · 19/09/2021 13:45

@Wotwhywhen

We were promised £350million a week for NHS.... Lies Promised gas and fuel prices wouldn't go up... Lies. There won't be shortages... Lies. Etc etc.

People said it was lies before the vote and got ignored.
Very basic research can tell you it was factual, but it was still ignored as project fear...

And now it's coming true.

There are already people in this country who can't afford to eat and rely on food banks.
There are already people that can't afford to heat their homes and rely on a warm home discount.
Things. Will. Get. Worse.

Absolutely.
theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 13:46

For me the despising was indeed helpful. I depised them so much that eventually I could not share a country with them, so I left. Excellent decieision.

No, but that's the reality, we have due to exploitation in the supply chain essentially There's a middle ground between acknowledging things have been aggrevated or caused by brexit, and blaming solely brexit for everything.
Christinatherabbit · 19/09/2021 13:46

I despise them for a lot more than just the empty shelves 😡

manquedutemps · 19/09/2021 13:47

It is a pretty crap situation for gluten-free stuff, a lot of which comes from Europe, especially pasta, or Germany. Lots of unavailable items, and since a lot of gluten-free food is poor, once you find something that is acceptable, it is hard when it just stops being able to get here.

So not just about luxury items. Also about items that people with disease need.

And one of my DC's asthma medicines is totally unavailable. Super - that keeps them alive.

Hont1986 · 19/09/2021 13:47

I honestly think that in twenty years time, being a Leaver now is going to be looked on as a badge of shame.

Fernando072020 · 19/09/2021 13:47

Ahh, op but look at how well the NHS is doing with all that extra money! 😁

SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/09/2021 13:47

@Viviennemary

Yes a few things are out of stock. I'm sure we'll cope. Goodness knows what folk like you would do if you ever had to suffer real hardship.
Lack of choice and increasing prices mean that some people will actually suffer hardships. Also why should we just accept with just having to make do and put up with things all because people voted for something based on lies that is clearly making us all worse off.
Truthseeker34 · 19/09/2021 13:47

Different perspective here, I don't know what is causing the shortages. Brexit may be a part but sure there are other factors. I voted to leave, the reason? The EU is a corrupt institution with people who are lining their pockets ( lve done a lot of research on members who get paid inordinate amount of money by so called charities to push their agenda. Open society are one of the worst). Also the government is supposed to work for the people, democracy is diluated if those in power further away from the people are making decisions that effects those who they represent. This absolutely infuriates me ! And don't believe people who say EU nationals struggled with settled status. My partner did it in 15 minutes. Also worth mentioning that my partner , my wonderful husband and father to my child is Hungarian so this has impacted us directly ( I can't go to live over there for example ) . Even with all if this , I would still vote leave. I think there is huge corruption in British politics but at least there is a better view of what they are doing and they can held accountable in an easier way. I like that the EU gave us the opportunity to mix with other countries and cultures but apart from that I really don't see the benefits.

Cactus1982 · 19/09/2021 13:48

I despise them every moment of every day, not just when I’m doing the weekly shop.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 19/09/2021 13:49

Oh dear op how will you cope? You sound like a spoilt entitled brat.
And the word despise coming from a remainer about randoms they don't even know doesn't surprise me some of the vile abuse they aimed at leave voters were disgusting and proved how discriminatory they were against a group that dared to have a different view point from them.

Truthseeker34 · 19/09/2021 13:49

Sorry typing on phone. Democracy is diluated if those in power making decisions on behalf of the people are far away from those that they represent.

Elephantsparade · 19/09/2021 13:50

I think its unreasonable. I hold a huge resentment that there was a vote at all, the way the vote structured, and against both the remain and leave campaigns. But voters not so much.

52andblue · 19/09/2021 13:50
@MapleMay11there are loads of shortages where I am in the N West. The local co ops are literally half empty and have been for weeks now and the fuel stations just over the border in N Wales are empty this week Shock.
Southern Scotland.
Same here.
Aware that lots of Northumberland is similar.
If you have the time and money to shop around it's not too bad.
Many of us don't and it's pants.
But there is so much more about Brexit that is awful too :(

Gimlisaxe · 19/09/2021 13:51

OP

I am also in Surrey and have noticed it, there are still a lot of brexiteers in this county (which voted overwhelmingly for Brexit and the Tory party) and now the most important thing in their lives is the fact that they can't get their garden waste picked up, due to lack of drivers.

I have given up being angry at them, I am furious with the government and thrilled that Gove finally has a government position where he is in charge of something instead of passing it all onto someone else, although I suspect my relationship with his secretary is only going ot get better, considering he doesn't reply to any of one in his constituency.

TBF to him this is all the time, he even went campaigning for another Tory MP and didn't turn up to anything in my borough.

onelittlefrog · 19/09/2021 13:51
@Cactu you misunderstood I didn't vote for Brexit but I do think compared to many counties we are spoiled in the variety of food & cost of it.
What's your point though?

Yes we are, absolutely, privileged with the choice we have.

That doesn't mean we should shoot ourselves in the foot and make things worse for no reason whatsoever Confused

What you're saying is irrelevant to this thread.

KikoLemons · 19/09/2021 13:52

You despise all you like OP. Enjoy your ignorance and the "approval" you get from others equally ignorant. "Yeah - down withXXX"

Supply-chain interuptions have hugely complex causes and "Brexit" has had short and long term effects on everything, some good, some bad - and you are clearly not the sort of person who can be bothered to learn about it.

So Yay! OP! YANBU - woohoo!!

99victoria · 19/09/2021 13:52

@Truthseeker34
Try speaking to any of the thousands of British people who run businesses and want to import or export goods if you want to enlighten yourself about what the benefits of being in the EU could possibly be!

Eve · 19/09/2021 13:52

How dare the leave voters mock anyone saying we can’t get salmon or water or whatever. Who are you to dictate what I can and cannot eat!

Those who voted leave for it can live on the gruel and water they seem to think is an acceptable consequence. Leave the shops to the rest of us who didn’t vote for this shitshow!

Own the consequences of your action and fuck off out of the shops and doctors and leave it to the rest of us.

ilovesooty · 19/09/2021 13:52

And I will hate Johnson, Farage, Gove and the other lying Brexiteer politicians until the day I die.

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/09/2021 13:52

Well there’s a business opportunity for some you entrepreneurs! Keep the money in Britain and employ British workers rather than send the money to Germany (in this instance!)

UK needs to be self sufficient and things will change it’s not all scare mongering
