To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

It must be regional, there are no problems where I live (Yorkshire). Yesterday Tesco and M&S were very well stocked - almost pre Christmas level. No shortages.
Maybe certain shops have better supply chains?

It's not worth the energy of being angry about it. Just have to try and get on with it best we can
gibletjane · 19/09/2021 13:17

@tobedtoMNandfart yes

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 13:17

@gibletjane

Well there are clearly regional differences. What were you unable to get hold of?
Stuff for daughters packed lunch Salmon Sparkling water Some ready meals Tonic water

@gibletjane

Well i'm not a fan of Brexit but my shelves have only been short of certain items eg I want bagels but they only have wraps or rolls. We still have a shit load of choice, I think we are quite spoiled tbh.
yes we are lucky and have been lucky for a long time

However, the situation has deteriorated, and is continuing to do so

We are already at the point where people on a restricted diet are struggling

No routine blood tests available

No repairs to damaged doors and windows available

Fuel prices rising fast and unpredictably

No way of knowing where all this is heading

So saying yes, things are getting worse for us, but don't worry there are not as bad as they could be, doesn't really cut it

Wotwhywhen · 19/09/2021 13:18

@lightand

Do you find despising people in general, helpful?
Yes.
SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/09/2021 13:18

YANBU While some will claim its absolutely fine to have supermarket half empty or with limited choices we should all be alarmed by how fragile our food supply chains are, food left rotting in fields unpicked, businesses collapsing and rising prices. Is this what people voted for? Is this the Brexit we were promised? I am still waiting for any benefits to emerge.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 19/09/2021 13:18

Weird. No shortages in the north west where I live. Tbf, lots of countries are experiencing shortages due to corona/isolating staff etc. I voted to remain, but I wouldn't "despise" those who disagreed with me at the time. It's about more than passports. It's about how we structure our governance and how best to proceed as a country long term. I'd probably vote leave now if we had another referendum.

Eustaciavile · 19/09/2021 13:19

The only substitution on my £220 Morrison’s shop this week was a different sort of peanut cereal bar for 16 year old DS. I honestly can’t say I’ve noticed any gaps here in West Yorkshire.

Ps £220 shop includes shopping for two households, I’m not greedy 😊

lightand · 19/09/2021 13:19

We can choose to control our emotions.
And accept that everyone is different.

People come from different viewpoints and have experienced different situations.

lightand · 19/09/2021 13:20

Love your neighbour!

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 13:20

I don't think it's ok to have a supermarket half empty but I haven't been in any supermarket that's half empty or a third empty.

Wotwhywhen · 19/09/2021 13:20

@lightand

Love your neighbour!
Why?

What have they done to deserve my love?

Existing isn't a reason to love anyone.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 19/09/2021 13:20

@gibletjane

Well there are clearly regional differences. What were you unable to get hold of?
We went through a stage of being unable to get bread. This only lasted a few days

We keep having spells of being unable to get fruit or veg

I am not so worried about the other stuff, diet coke, colgate toothpaste, etc

I am more worried about when you can't get your hands on the basics, rather than when you don't have a wide choice of different brands

SaveloyDip · 19/09/2021 13:21

Not only are a lot of the shelves empty but what is available seems to have a very short shelf life. A big weekly shop is out of the question as most of the food is mouldy and usable by the end of the week.

MapleMay11 · 19/09/2021 13:21

@Teflondreams that sounds awful. I have to admit I haven't been in a Coop but aside from Waitrose which always has poor availability (so definitely not Brexit related), it's been fine up to now.

Stompythedinosaur · 19/09/2021 13:22

I agree op.

binkydebonky · 19/09/2021 13:22

@MrsPear

I bloody hate the people who voted for brexit and the worse thing is they are being rewarded by the government by being told they don’t have to pay for nowt and the taxpayer has their ni increased. The shelves in Waitrose bridport in the summer were completely bare - no bread etc Bloody scum the lot of them. Destroyed this country and the future because they are racist, stupid and ignorant.
What does this even mean
ilovesooty · 19/09/2021 13:22

@lightand

Love your neighbour!
Not if they voted Leave.

I don't know how my neighbour voted though.

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 13:22

I do despise them. The country has been royally fucked over and I cannot fathom what it will be like for our children.

I’m nurse in the NHS - the impact of Brexit on our and social care staffing, and we have no blood bottles.

Despising them is actually too kind on reflection

OP posts:
Eustaciavile · 19/09/2021 13:22

Pps I voted remain

WoozySnoozy · 19/09/2021 13:24

Stuff for daughters packed lunch - what stuff? All bread & fillings is worse than not being able to get snack bars.

The salmon and bottled water are luxuries really.
Ready meals are a problem as I know a lot of people rely on them but they might have had some in just not the ones you wanted.

If it's basics people can't get then yes its worrying. But fizzy water isn't usually an essential.

gamerchick · 19/09/2021 13:24

Stuff for daughters packed lunch
Salmon
Sparkling water
Some ready meals
Tonic water

Not being able to get those has made it impossible to meal plan?

WoozySnoozy · 19/09/2021 13:25

I’m nurse in the NHS - the impact of Brexit on our and social care staffing, and we have no blood bottles. agreed this is mega shit

Notthemessiah · 19/09/2021 13:25

No tonic water? However will you cope?
